Biggest pet peeve in the world?
I have many-
tailgaters,
parents who refuse to acknowledge their kid has a problem or did anything wrong, or is disabled...
ALLERGIES-especially today where I've taken two of the strongest, fastest, longest acting pills already AND singulair, and sinus otrivin 5 times...(actually, just sneezing alone is my least fave thing-I'd rather be throwing up)
extreme religious fanatics who push it on you when you already have a religion!
Oh, gee, I could go on forever....

Pushy religious fanatics... although pushy political fanatics are just as bad... and if you combine the two, I'd say that's probably my #1 biggest pet peeve, because the 2 have no business mixing.

Irresponsible parents... and I'll leave it at that, nice and broad. LOL

Bad drivers in general. You see a lot of that up here, esp. people who take the phrase "speed LIMIT" very literally and drive 20mph BELOW it (for no reason - I'm not talking about bad weather, car trouble, etc) without their hazards on. I'm sorry, but that's just as dangerous as speeding, when you're talking about twisty roads... you're just ASKING to get rear-ended.

-Extremists of just about any sort (see also above)

-Pushy religious people

-Bigots

Hrm. Those may all be variations on a theme. Closed minds drive me up a tree!

ugggggggggggggghhhh.. I hate that too!!

My biggest pet peeve is people who think that are experts, when you know full well they don't have a clue!

ugh reminds me of a boy I dated once.. it was during the presidential election. He came over and actually asked me whats a democrat? whats a republican? one month later he was a political force to be reckoned that couldn't shut up about anything, although he really only knows what he reads and hears on TV. ANNOYING! (haha this was the same boy that told me I wasn't DEEP enough).

Oh lord... I hope I don't offend anybody. FYI: I just got home from being out of town this week and discovered my pet sitter somehow missed my guinea pig developing a massive eye infection and now they think he's going to be permanently blind in that eye. To say that I'm upset would be the understatement of the year. Distraught would be more accurate.

I'll start with my animal related ones:
1) People who let their dogs ride loose in the back of pick up trucks. For crying out loud, do they not realize how dangerous that is? I've even seen them with the back gate thing down.
2) People who give their pets to shelters over small stupid life changes such as moving or having a baby. My opinion is that when you get an animal you are promising to take care of it for its entire life. Before you get that animal you should be darn sure you have the money to pay for all that it will need, including veterinary care in extreme cases. One of my dogs was dumped at a shelter because her family moved (she was only four months old so how long could they have had her?) and the other was tossed on the streets because he has defective hips. My cat is mysteriously missing nearly all of his bottom teeth (abuse? who knows). These animals are the lights of my life and bring me immeasurable joy every single day. They also cost me a bloody fortune. If you can't deal with this, don't get a pet. If you can't take care of a dog, what the hell are you doing with a baby?
3) People who eat meat and get squeamish over horror movies, dogs and cats being killed, or the idea of cannibalism. Sorry folks- it's all the same to me. If you can't personally stomach watching it being killed or kill it yourself, I don't think you should eat it. This is not to say that killing things for sport doesn't make my list.

other less controversial things:
4) drivers who fail to use turn signals
5) students who view their college education as shopping at a mall
6) those little short ruffled skirts that barely cover girls' behinds
7) sweatpants with writing on the behind
8) extremely out of shape people who refuse to consider a healthy diet or exercise
9) parents who don't control their children
10) really obvious spelling or grammar mistakes on the internet
11) obnoxious know-it-all grad students who find the support for their position continuously in identity politics
12) snotty historians who decry interdisciplinary programs as inferior
13) pink eye
14) the expression "you go girl"
15) internet forwards

This seems good for tonight.

*most* drivers over 65, and drivers under 21. UGH.

I can't even tell you how many times i've almost been hit by 70 yr old men. Just this week 2 old ladies almost bowled me over in their cars.

my other pet peeve is people who tell the same stories over and over and over and over and over again. its like seriously.. get a new gig.

Its one thing if you tell it over and over and over again to a different crowd.. but when there's a consistent audience member each and everytime.. it should signal you to look into some new material.

This is stupid, but in a crowded city it makes a difference ...
I can't stand when people don't obey the norms about walking. As in, stay to your right. If you are crossing the street and someone is headed right for you, you should both step to your right. There is nothing I hate more than doing the stupid "oops let's not run into each other" dance. Just move to the right! Same thing in my school building where we have double doors -- they are there for a reason! Use the door on the right! I can't stand when I open the door on the right and there is someone from the other side coming through MY door! Makes me CRAZY.

Okay, now that you all think I'm nuts, other pet peeves include:

poor grammar from supposedly smart people (professors, classmates, news anchors)

people who are grumpy and take it out on strangers for no reason

people who call themselves Liberal and open-minded, but criticize me / think I'm nuts for being religious and fairly conservative (this is totally not a dig at you, Shannon, I share your dislike of people who try to force religion down your throat!)

boys. 'nuff said.

I only have a few I think:

Parent's who let their kids ride in the back of the shopping cart, standing up! (this is simply cause my son fell out of one when he was three and nearly killed himself)
I cringe when I see it. I just wanna tell the parent's to put them in the darn seat!

This could open up a book of worms but another pet peeve I have is homeschooling! Now for everyone that homeschools please don't be offended. I think the only people who have a right to home school are x-teachers who have a college degree in teaching OR someone like Michelle who have a child with autism or such who feel they are more comfortable in a home setting. BUT the parents who simply want to shield their children from the atmosphere of other kids in a school for fear they might rub off bad things on them is just wrong. Again, just my opinion.

Overly heavy woman who wear bikinis! Oh and the fad where you see your thong coming out of the top of your pants!

People who buy dogs and put them out in dog houses(with the exception of people who use their dog for hunting purposes. I understand they need to be out due to the "scent" thing.
But the ones who buy them for a pet and keep them outside, makes me sad!

And last but not least, people without children who judge parents on raising their kids. My sister was real big on this until recently she had a child. It all came back to bite her in the butt. She's now dealing with a 2year old toddler BTW: I have a 7 year old and a 11 year old and was just complimented by a waitress Friday night about how well behaved my boys were at a dinner for my Pop-Pop with 17 people. We ordered at 7:30pm and didn't eat till around 8 and that's tough for kids to have to deal with.

pet peeves of mine include:

* people who are intollerant of other people's ways of life, and feel the need to TELL them that... be it about religion, politics, sexuality, etc.

* blatant sexism, racism, homophobia/heterosexism, classism....etc... in public places where it REALLY should not be acceptable, like schools, on TV, etc.

* profs who think that, because they have a PhD, they know everything and are a million times better than you and therefore have the right to tell you whatever they want, without argument... grrr... and profs who think that "interdisciplinary" is a bad word (usually, these two go hand in hand)

* bad grammar

* when you can hear the saliva in the mouths of newscasters or other people on TV or the radio

* and the "wow you're so lucky to be so thin!" one REALLY gets me too... my grandmother says that to me everytime she sees me. sheesh, talk about perpetuating negative body image stereotypes...

Great thread! Here are a few things that I find annoying:

+ Parents who always blame other people's kids, but never their own

+ When people without IBS try to give me advice on how to cure my problem (e.g. "Well, just eat a little bit of cheese every day and train your body to get used to it.")

+ Teenage kids who try to act 'gangsta'.

+ People who talk about the same FREAKING THING, LIKE, ALL THE TIME! (Actually, I have to admit that I'm guilty of this one.)

Best wishes,
EvilCats

People who like to give advice about fertility and miscarriages and have NO CLUE what they are saying is just plain wrong, or even worse, hurtful! I guess that falls under the realm of people talking about things they know nothing about! If I hear one more time, just relax and it'll happen, I can't be responsible for my actions!

Judgemental people-be it about religion, sexuality, politics, whatever-we were all made different. If we weren't all different, it would be a very boring world!

I hate it when people think because they are from a good family or money or whatever, that they deserve to be treated better. I work for an optometrist, very rarely do we have emergencies. I hate it when people call and I tell them I don't have an appt until 3 days from now and they came back with "well, don't you know who I am??" It makes me SO angry!!! I don't care if you are the Pope himself, am I supposed to call someone else and cancel there appt because you think you are more deserving???? Its not like I work in a dr's office where some people are sicker than others, its just a case of they think they are better and shouldn't have to wait!

It really bugs me when I let someone out into traffic and they don't give the thank you wave!

It bugs me when people come into my office to buy glasses and I see them pull up in a Mercedes, wearing a fur coat and dripping in diamonds and try to bicker about the price of things!!! If someone truly doesn't have money for glasses and needs them, I'm the first to help out but when you have more money then the dr I work for and are giving me a hard time about the price, I'm likely to charge you more just for being stingy and a pain in the butt!

Hee hee. If I started to list off *everything* that gets under my skin, we'd be here for DAYS!! But here are a few...

1) Mum's who drag their young children by the arm in shopping malls/along the street/whatever. I have almost said something to two different women who were obviously hurting their children. We know someone who did that to his daughter and dislocated her shoulder. Grrrrrr.

2) *EVERYTHING* (pretty much) involved in taking public transportation to and from work every day at rush hour. Which I do. And am well grumpy at the end of each journey. "No, I wouldn't like your elbow in my face or your face in my boob or you hand on my butt, so please move along!"

3) Any repetative noises that are unnecessary. Very distracting. Drives me crazy.

4) Places where you have to pay to use the potty (yeah, I'm talking about you Victoria train station! )

5) "All about me" people. Example: A friend of mine's sister is going through a lot of problems at the moment, and has been very unstable emotionally and people who don't offer support or advice, but just ramble on, "Well, when *I* was like that..." when chances are, they never were and are just attention-seeking, melodramatic immature people! (Er, that one is a recent one that has been irking me).

6) People who interrupt other people because they think what they have to say is more important.

7) Velour track suits

8) Anything with "hello kitty" on it

9) All the pushy-about-anything people bothers me too.

10) People who nag

11) Covers of awesome songs, ruined by no-talent copy cats!

Okay, I had better stop before I get rolling even more! Hee hee.

**hugs for everyone, as hugs are NOT one of my pet peeves*

Cheers!

and I certainly don't judge believers of any other religions, except in the case where they try to force feed non-believers rather than using a gentle approach and letting the other person make the choice. God's all about free will anyhow,LOL? How do you think Eve got us into this apple situation anyhow, ? LOL!

I thought about that after I made my post... Some of my pet peeves are things *I* DO! How crazy is that? Guess that makes me a hypocrite!

I don't mean I hate it when I say, "Oh, I have such a stomach ache" and someone else goes, "Yeah, I had the worst flu I've ever had recently" or something. Just when they try and take over the entire conversation and make everything about them... and how they've had it so much worse (or better, as the case may be) than anyone else.
I think it is normal to try to relate.

Mindy's Peeves...

1. "freinds" who get mad at you or accuse you of not being a good freind if you become too sick to keep up with their high maintainence egos
2. telemarketers
3. People who talk too loud on thier cell phones or on the metro (DC public transportation) during the morning commute
4. People who drive erratically when talking on thier phone/eating while driving/putting on make-up while driving!
5. comments on my weight (or more apporpriately lack thereof)
6. People who do not appreciate how blessed they are simply for the fact that they were born in this country! (There's other countries that one is also blessed to be born in - but those of us who were born in the U.S./Canada/Australia/most of Western Europe should thank the Lord every day that we were not born in Burma/North Korea/Tibet/Turmenistan/nearly all of sub-saharan Africa!!!)
7. For something petty - I hate slurrping or chewing with your mouth open - yuck!!!!

Okay - those are the big ones...

I live in NY, something p*sses me off or annoys me very other minute, especially during my commute... Of course I am exagerrating a bit. My new pet peeve lately is CELL PHONES! Now, I have one, I rarely use it unless it is an emergency... But I cannot stand people who use them incessantly for no good reason. People become morons when they get on them. Ditto regarding your "walk to the right" rule. On bad days I have been known to walk to the right and if the person coming doesn't do the same, well then they just get a hip check as we cross paths...

But special ed is all ed psych stuff, so it's not a far cry from an Ed. Psych masters. Yay school psychs!

That was actually my plan coming out of high school, and I did go into arts psych, but my marks were 70s and you don't go anywhere here with a BA in psych. But teaching is sooo my passion, I loooove it.

1. people who don't wave or give acknowledgement when you wave them to turn, or let them in in front of you.

2. Hyped up 1 day sales at department stores that last thurs-sunday. Call me crazy, but thats not a one day sale!

Mine are:

1. People taking my stuff. Hate that!
2. Self-satisfied idiots using words they don't know (or make up) to make themselves seem smart.

P.S. (I asked my BF what my pet peeves were and he said, "Sound, and other people." LOL! Hey, that's true. How well he knows me.)

and they really piss off us good drivers. In fact, I once
saw a poor young kid get killed, literally crushed to death
by an 18 wheeler because of a 'traffic train'. This poor
admittedly impatient kid tried passing ten cars at once. I
remember seeing him pull out from behind me, and me think-
ing 'Oh no kid, don't do it!' As I passed the wreckage I
got sick to my stomach. What was once an 18 ft long car was
reduced to a crumpled up block of metal about 4 ft. long.
The cops never traced down the lead car of that train, who in
my book should've been charged with and convicted for invol-
untary manslaughter. At least these days some states have
laws against going 10 to 15 mph below the speed limit, but
I don't think Michigan is one<sigh>. -Bob
