I do! I do!

I am 100% full-on addicted to chapstick. and I hate it. Anyways, I'm not addicted to any old chapstick. I'm addicted to Bonne Bell chapstick and Bonne Belle only. So yes, I am the 24 year old walking around with the electric green and hot pink chapstick tubes that smell like bubble gum and lemonaide, like all the kindergarten girls. (The addiction started in 9th grade, so I have an excuse). I've tried to substitute the bonne bell for chapstick brand chapstick, or other brands, but each kind doesn't suffice and my lips start burning and I start tweaking out wanting nothing but a tube of bonne bell.

Anyways, I hate it. I want to quit so bad, but I have visions of quitting chapstick that include being strapped into my bed for a few days with sores developing all over my lips because for the last 10 years of my life, Bonne Bell has been readily available and applied at least 15 times a day.

Anyways, my cups are always sticky, 1/2 though a half hour make out session i'm thinking, damn I could use some chapstick right now, and my mom thinks that my IBS is really a result of accidently eating and swallowing all that chapstick throughout my life (when I eat, drink, sleep etc).

Anyone have any other weird addictions... or better yet, and cures for chapstick addiction that don't remind me of the kinda treatment they'd give a heroine addict?

i'm in the same boat! it's not as specific for me - i just always need some sort of lip gloss/balm on at all times - but during the day it's always cover girl lip slicks - they're colored gloss that comes in a tube like chapstick. i mean, my lips are super-soft, but it's almost crippling. and for some reason, lip gloss doesn't wash off my glasses in the dishwasher, so they all have this pink tint around the rim. hot, right?

i used to have chapped lips as a kid, so my mom told me to put vaseline on ever night before bed. that turned into chapstick/blistex during the day, too. i'm almost as hooked on hand lotion, too. a slave to moisturization!

I'm addicted to Chapstick too!!! I think I started using it one winter & then my lips got dependent on it. If I don't have it for a couple hours , I go nuts!! I don't have to have Chapstick brand, but i do prefer it, but I need to have some on me at ALL times!! One of my friend is also addicted to Chapstick, so no, you're not the only one! Don't know anyway to break the terrible cycle either!!

YES.... chap stick... I MUST have it on before and after I work out and before bed (Shane like the Jelly Belly flavored one that Jennifer Rose gave me)....hehehe I also put it on before I eat spicy food... I think it prevents me from licking my lips (that way they don't burn) YES I'm a NUT!! LOL

And I use Instant hand sanitizer ALL the time.... I have one in my office, car, purse, gym bag, bedroom...

Oh, one more thing...every morning when I get ready for work. I have to wash my hands with soap, dry them, put on my hand lotion, and then use another towel to pat them dry before putting my ring, watch, & other jewlery on.

I use a lot of lip moisturizers too, so no advice on how to break that habit.

My addiction is knee-hi socks. Does this count? I've always, always loved them. Whenever I see them - especially colorful ones - I have to buy them. They're so comfortable and keep my legs warm! I probably have over 30 pairs right now; for me, that's a lot of one thing to have. I recently took a pic (sorry, it's not a very good one - camera phone ) of some of them.

Not finger nails - finger SKIN - they bleed and it's very disgusting but I don't even know I'm doing it, look down and I'm bleeding. Only thing that has worked is to wear gloves or keep so much lotion on that it is impossible to pick. Neither is very practical long term so here I am still in same boat.

I'd say if worse you ever are addicted to is chap stick you'll be okay. Kind of cute!

I would love to be able to use different lip glosses, or something with color, but my lips freak out if its anything but bonne bell. suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

I have a cute tube of that menthol tinted lip gloss/chapstick thingy from bath and body works that I bought to try out, hoping my lips would accept it.. but nope. I'm not giving up hope though haha..

but I know what you all mean about always having it on you. I've never left the house without chapstick in over 7 years.

My lips are FAR from chapped. Haven't been in years.. but for some reason they still burn and tweak out when I don't have chapstick near me.

Yep, I have a strange one. I can't go to sleep unless I put some Vick's Vapor Rub under my nose. No kidding! I started this years ago after my nasal surgery when I was having problems breathing. I know it really doesn't help much, but I cannot do without it.

If I don't put it under my nose at bedtime, I feel like I'm going to have a panic attack. Weird, huh?

I love lip gloss or lipstick. I have to have some on my lips at all times. Right now it is lip gloss. I bought 5 tubes of it and Bath and Body. They have the Tutti Dolci kind with all the flavors. I am sure I have ingested my share of lipstick and gloss over the years. Which is why I can't understand why my poo doesn't just slide on out!! LOL!

Boy, chapstick is popular and I thought I was the only one! I buy them at Costco in bunches of like 8. I have one on my desk, one in my pocket at least 2 in my purse, one next to my chair at home, one next to the bed, etc! I bet at any given time, there are at least 10 chaprsticks within a 20 feet radius of me!! HEHE!!!!!

I LOVE the knee socks! my legs are a little chubby and I don't like the tightness of them on my calves though. I don't like ANYTHING tight on actually. I can't stand tags on clothes either!!!!

I'm addicted to jelly beans! It's SO bad for my teeth - but they've become my vice since I had to give up coffee and chocolate. I have a price club jar of jelly-belly jelly beans in my kitchen - I eat at least 40 a day, sometimes more! I even take baggies of them with me on vacation!
I'm also a compulsive zit popper - any zit that's on my face (or the occasional shoulder zit) I will squeeze till it pops regardless of how much it hurts - I think this developed in middle school when I decided that zits were disgusting and I had to go to great lenghts to get rid of them - good thing I don't get them too often any more.

Quirky - but I think that's about it...

I used to do the ice chomping thing SO BAD when I was younger! The only reason I stopped (which just means I don't have ice 'cause if I do... I have to chomp away, hee hee) was 'cause I got teased for it so bad!
My friends read somewhere that chewing on ice meant you are "sexually frustrated" (which, by the way, is ridiculous!) and made fun of me whenever I had a beverage!
I wonder if it's why I have so many problems with my teeth? Hmmm...
Anywho, glad to know I am not alone!

Cheers,

I believe it's a known fact that your lips ARE really addicted to chapstick. They've become so used to the protection you give them that you can NEVER stop using it. Really.......!!! Everyone I know, I mean EVERYONE I know that uses chapstick, can not stop!!!! Weird huh how that happens. I fortunately never started using it, otherwise I'd be in the same boat! BUt hey, there are way worse things to be addicted to so chapstick is just fine!!!

I go through addictions every so many years. I think my main addiction at the current moment is WaWa turkey hoagies with just a little bit of mayo and a side of pickles! I get one at least 3 times a week. Sometimes 4! I even tell my hubby that I'm going to lunch for my addiction!

Oh my gosh and my other addiction is shoes, but I guess that doesn't count cause many of us are addicted to shoes

Damn. I'm addicted. I ALWAYS use lip balm, always have! I don't care for Chap Stick; my lip drug of choice is Mentholatum ("Natural Ice") because it's so cool and refreshing -- and smells great too! When I first get up in the morning, after brushing my teeth, on goes the lip drug. Just before bed, after brushing my teeth, on goes the lip drug. When I go out, though, I use a tinted lip balm so I have a little color. I never use lipstick, only tinted lip balm.

Oh, I am so hooked! Yikes! How do I get this monkey off my back?!

I've started using Vick vapor rub before bed too except.........I'm using it on my toe nails! Yep, I have the most disgusting toes and toe nails. About 5 of the 10 of them have a fungus under the nail that will not go away without taking a medication (which I refuse to do). My doctor told me to spray Tylex on a toothbrush and then brush my toes every morning with it and at night use the Vicks. My nails should be nice and pretty in 6 MONTHS! I started the regime January 1 so that in June I can have my first pedicure! Can't wait!

I grew up on it.

But I decided to stop.

And now I'm free!

Here's what I did:

I threw it all away. I let my lips bleed and do whatever they needed to do.

And it was AGONY!!!

But you CAN do it!

Here's what helped me the most: Someone told me they put glass in the stuff...and that this was the addictive property no less! I don't know if it's true but the thought of it made me quit much easier.

HTH ??

I read that in the paper---that Vicks Vapor Rub helps cure nail fungus. Let me know if it works. I have a weird spot on one of my toenails that I'd like to get rid of.

Actually, there's a long list of things that Vicks is supposed to take care of. I'd like to see the list sometime. Anyone find it online???

I like to be fully lubricated at all times! LOL

Let's see, I have chapstick in my purse, a kitchen drawer, a bathroom drawer, my nightstand, and my desk drawer both at home and work.

I have a bottle or tube of lotion in my purse, on the kitchen counter, on the bathtub rim, my nightstand and my desks and both home and work. LOL

My BIL makes fun of me sometimes by withholding my purse so that I can't get to my beloved moisturizing products! He likes to see the panic ensue!

I am a lip anything addict. on any given day I ahve at LEAST five lip products in my purse. Guilty!
I am also a sticker addict(teacher) and a Starbucks grande Soy Tazo Chai tea addict. Yes, I cannot use any other brand of Chai, even if it has SILK brand soy milk(like any other should exist?)I can make them at home and can buy them at Starbucks. It's gorgeous. God forbid Iwas ever plunked in....blue collar land, what on earth would I do without my Starbucks tazo chai?? it's so stupid but I'm pretty anal about it.

to have globs of Vicks VapoRub under your nose and to be smelling like a eculyptus tree! Ha!

The other night, when I got ready for bed, I obviously put too much under my nose. My husband took one look at me and handed me a Kleenex. He said, "You have something hanging out of your nose!" He thought it was a big booger, since we've both had colds lately. I said, "Ahhh, that's just my Vick's!" I went to the mirror and looked, and yep, that's what it was---a big glob of Vick's.

Now, if I haven't grossed all of you out.... Between this and my pink flannel Christmas pj's, I'm a hot mama when I go to bed each night.

But I have a large collection of pajamas! Scary ones with hair dye stains on them...to pretty ones I bought for a business trip because I didn't have any decent jammies and knew I had to share a room...to flannel ones that I could walk around the house in when my parents visited...I have Snoopy jammies too....currently wearing Eyore!

I hate clothes...IBS related hatred I am sure and the first thing I do when I get home is change into jammies that don't touch my stomach.

Since I am stable now you would think that I would loosen up a bit....NOT.

I love their stuff....I use their lip balm, their face stuff, and their hand lotion. It's a little expensive, but it smells and feels so good!

Mac even loves their lip balm. He used mine once since he didn't have his Chapstick on him, and then kept stealing mine, so I got him his own tube!

I'm with Alicia on the lavendar stuff though as well, and I crack everything as well....freaks out my best friend when I crack my shoulders, used to freak out my orthodontist when I was in middle school because my jaw cracks every time I open it past a certain point. Knuckles, elbows, neck, and even sometimes where my leg meets my pelvis cracks (that one hurts!)

My lips are usually bare!!! Yippee!!

I only use something (netrogena's lip stuff that's fragrance free) when I have cold sores now.

I'm telling you...my lips bled when I tried to quit! But I let them bleed and get it out of their system and I am now CHAPSTICK (thst's the brand I used) free!

ooooh man.. I should really try it, but I'm just scared.

I know how terrible it feels when I can't put chapstick on for half an hour! Nevermind all day. Did you still go out and about and do your business.. how long did it take for the bleeding/pain to go away... 1 day, days, weeks??

Well, it's NOT fun! They didn't bleed non-stop but they did get a bit cut up (does this make sense?) The other thing is that my lips were shedding and I have a tendency to chew my lip (oooh, a bad habit!) so that made it worse for me. If I hadn't doen that they would have healed faster!

I think it lasted about a week. But I bet everyone is different. Yeppers...I went about my business...had to go to class! But truly it was ok if I didn't think about it too much. And stopped biting my lip! LOL I just threw it all away and didn't go buy more! (Easier said than done....)

You can DO IT Ashley! Just think of all the money you'll be saving (wish I'd done this back then) and buy yourself a reward for quitting! And then come here and brag to us!

Love ya!

You've all sparked my interest - I too use chap stick at least 30 times a day. I don't need Chap Stick in particular - I will use whatever, but I get anxiety when I do not have some sort of lip balm with me at all times. I currently have a tube of Burts Bees Honey Lip Balm sitting on my desk and there are about 5 other varieties in my purse!!

So I did a search and I came up with this web site - Lip Balm Anonymous. Some interesting info on here.....not sure how credible it is, but I believe it...

Yeah, I saw that and I thought about your problems with your teeth. Chewing ice causes fissures within your teeth and enamel. Overtime this can cause cracks in your tooth which requires crowns and root canals!!

oh man! I still need to quit! I've been freaking out lately because hardly any of the local drugstores carry the stuff anymore. Those that do, CVS and target are all carrying the new fancier lines, which is driving me crazy. I'm addicted to the original, and the original only. Anything else sends my lips in a fit!

I hope you enjoy your new kind.. I'll be taking my addicted butt around town in search for the old kind!

Well it wasnt funny at the time but I laugh now....chapstick actually was the culprit of my first ever fainting experience...which led on to a long line of fainting episodes when I was a kid. I am haunted so much by chapsticks that because of it that I wont go anywhere NEAR them!! Actually the bonnebelle ones are nice and I do LOVE lipbalms really....but oh no no no....Im talking the serious stuff....the ORIGINAL CHAPSTICK....the ugly black labelled one...ssssssss makes me shiver thinking about it....and this is how it started.....

It was a nice summers day...I, being the clumsy 10 year old that I was had scratched something into my eye and had to go to the doctors to see if I had something stuck in it. Well....he put some nasty dye thing in it to see if there was anything there..but no....all was fine....so he just gave me a prescription for some eyedrops to help the stinging.....

So off to the chemist me and my mum went....and as usual in these places there were queues of people waiting to be served ....so I decided I would have a look around as you do...picking up anything that looked interesting and annoying my mother....so...what did I see.....oh yea.....

A CHAPSTICK!!! THE BLACK LABELLED ONE to be precise!!!

What did I do???

I SNIFFED IT....

What happened next??

I fell....WHAM BAM SMACK on the floor....completely out cold....

Next thing I remember is waking up in some strange mans arms as he was carrying me across the road back to the doctors....well...I nearly cacked myself as I thought he was kidnapping me!!

I recovered...came back around shortly after....but the memory lives on....and from that day I have not touched...or even gone near one of those hideous things again!!!

So Ashley it isnt my addiction....lol...its my nightmare!!!

to be fair maybe the stuff the doctor had put in my eyes had made me feel groggy I dont know...all I know is that I felt fine before and as soon as I sniffed the chapstick the smell just overwhelmed me and I passed out......it would be me.....hehe...........

Jesus - as I eventually discovered with IBS, it appears I am not the only one with this particular 'affliction'! I truly cannot believe it - I am a complete lip balm addict, but have never yet met a fellow addict...
I had a complete crisis recently when most places stopped selling the only one that truly moisturised my dry lips (Blistex Herbal Balm, in a green tube)! I now find ASDA WalMart still sells it, so I bulk buy a few at a time... I like to use that one during the day, Blistex Intensive Moisture at night (in a little red and white tub, can be interchanged with Carmex if necessary), and Blistex Medicated a couple of times a day for a real strong fix. I ALWAYS have at least one lipbalm somewhere about my person, usually about 3 in my bag, pockets, etc.

Indeed, as I type, I have just got back to mine and my boyfriend's home after a trip back up the motorway to my parents - and had freaked out as I had already lost all my lipbalms (however many I have, in the car, in my handbag, around the house, I ALWAYS get to a point where I only have one left), and had now left my 'emergency balm' at my parents! Luckily I have 'emergency-backup balms' in my handbag - Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream (supposed to be the best, but after a while using it my lips are drier than ever), a Stila tinted lip balm (the best tinted one I've ever found, the only one to actually moisturise, but not as good as my favourites) and various lip glosses - which don't really help, but can disguise the problem til I find a balm...

Jeez, I can't believe there are fellow lipbalm freaks, I think I need to go lie down...
