Sweetie, I'm really glad you're playing with the different size needles to see the different results you get. Good stuff. However, I don't think that yarn is suitable for dishcloths. Remember, it's gotta hold up under a lot of abuse. That yarn's much more suitable to sweaters or something that's not constantly under water, scrubbing things.

Lion Brand makes a "Kitchen Cotton" -- in fact, that pattern I sent you calls for it -- because it's really STURDY.

I'm being anal retentive, aren't I? Sorry.

I agree. Cashmere! WOWWWWW! Nice stuff! I've never knit with it; can't afford it. Never made mittens either; tough things to make. I don't think my hands could hold all those double-pointed needles, let alone figure out which ones to use, and when.

On the other HAND (ouch; that one hurt), it sounds like a challenge. Hmmmmm........

Ain't this knitting stuff FUN?!

Hey! When is your first knitting class?

I am using something similar to Lion Brand. They don't have Lion Brand where I picked this up...it too is made specifically for dishcloths.

I appreciate anal retentive...I don't know that they come to much more anal than I do though I wish someone would come up with a sexier word for that!

Knitting is a total blast...I am hooked. The class schedule hasn't come out yet. It should be e-mailed to me this week. This place has a stitch-n-#&$*) every third Thursday of the month. I think myself and two friends are going to all go together if we can get our schedules to gee-haw!

OK...it's past my bedtime! Nighty...night!

When I get better I would love to make one for you! My New Years gift to myself is a series of knitting classes that I can take about 20 minutes from my house.

My daughter will be 13 years old in August and I have dreams of making her an afghan...with even stitches! Ha ha.
I have crochet most of my life but I will say that I prefer knitting. It relaxes me....I can't wait to get better at it.

Take a look at the kit...I found mine in Wal-Mart. All you need is the kit and some yarn. I am an anti-acrylic snob. I don't like the way it feels!

I just read this entire thread top to bottom.

Bev was gonna teach me how to knit about a year ago. And I bought the yarn and such.

(No knitting kit though!)

And I gave up pretty early on.

I am now saving up to buy a kit and to try again. (I'll just need a digital camera to send pics to know if I'm doing stuff correctly...hmm...that could be a challenge!! I'll have to figure something out!)

Anyway...you are all so inspiring and so committed and just so awesome!

i truly love being part of this creative and talented bunch!

*hugs*

Thanks for sharing this (and for starting the thread Rachel!!)

I can only do it if I get to

a)bug everyone to death with my questions

b)get a lot of support

As a kid I was told I was lazy a lot. That I wasn't trying. i have SEVEN LD's, ADD, not to mention bipolar meds that are sapping my memory. I truly am at a disadvantage for things like this.

I am unsure I can do it without the digital cam cause I wouldn't be very good at describing what's going on with my stitiches...the way I'm holding the needles...etc.

But I want to be able to do this!

You are the most supportive people in my life (other than hubby)....so I shouldn't be shy here nor should I be concerned that you will think any less of me or dodge my questions. But doing something like knitting brings back all my childhood/adolescent "lazy, careless", etc.

I think I should try it! It will give my self esteem such a tremendous boost if I stick it out and just go for it! Esp. with such supportive ppl!

*takes deep breaths*

Ok. Ok! This is something I want to do! Now I just have to find last year's yarn and needles and when I make next week's major WalMart shopping trip...get that knitting (or crocheting) kit!

I need lots of hugs, please (scared)
