The borders need a crocheted edge to finish them off nicely. I'm not a big fan of crochet, but I learned it anyway out of necessity. The afghans I make all have a crocheted edge; the lady who finishes my work for me does the crocheted edges. It looks real nice and gives "support" to the project.
