Here is my new fur baby!!

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y126/michelebrake/IMG_05261.jpg
For some reason I couldn't get this second picture to come up directly!

His name is Harley! He is a 10 week old red shih tzu!!! He is the best boy in the whole world! He snuggle with me the whole two hours we went to visit this weekend. He likes to snuggle up on my shoulder, under my hair. He would whimper if I put him down. He came when I called him. He is paper trained! His fur is the softess fur I've ever felt! He's just like a little teddy bear!!!! He will be a little bigger than Jasmine but he totally picked me! They guess he will be about 10-11 pounds full grown. I guess this red color is kind of rare. If you notice his nose and around his eyes are brown instead of the usual black! I cried when I had to leave him there but they are really taking good care of him. He has the run of there house and has 9 other dogs to play with. We will bring him home on the 30 when we return from our Lake Tahoe trip. I can't wait to bring him home!!!!!

What an absolutely ADORABLE little puppy! OMG! I could just squeeze him and gobble him down, he's soooo cute! What joy he will bring you, Michele. And he's paper-trained ALREADY? Wow, I'm impressed.

This is absolutely marvelous! I'm very happy to see that smile on your face.

It was meant to be.

Thanks for sharing! We can't wait until the 30th for you.

Thanks Bevvy! I think he is the BEST!!! He came up to me right away and just stick to me. At one point he crawled in my shirt and stuck his head out between my boobs and decided to take a little nap! I couldn't believe the joy my heart felt snuggling that little guy. When he looked up into my face I just KNEW he was the one.

What was the bugs bunny cartoon with the abominable snowman who got hold of poor daffy duck and picked him up and said something like "I will hug him and squeeze him and love him and call him George" You guys remember that one?

Seriously precious, Michele. I'm in love already.

He looks kind of like a wookie or an ewok, though.

Definitely a sweetie.

Whose idea was it to get you the puppy, Michele? They deserve a metal. It was SOOOOO the right thing! Damn; I hate that it wasn't I who thought of it.

Harley is a SUPER name; how'd you think of it? When we were little kids, we used to play with a little boy down the street by the name of Harley Holt. Haven't heard that name since.

I just couldn't be happier for you. I know that feeling of taking in a little puppy and loving it as your own little child, certainly the only child I ever had. It's a wonderful feeling.

Once again, CONGRATULATIONS!

Well, we were actually thinking about it this past fall. We had decided to give the fertility stuff another month or two and if I didn't get pregnant, we'd get a puppy. We were pretty much all set to start looking for a puppy when we found out we were pregnant with twins and thought a new puppy and twins was a bit much. Well, since my babies have gone on, we decided NOW was the right time!

One of my patients at my office has brought his little shih tzu puppy in a few times and I feel in love with it. So, I had done some research about shih tzu's and found out what a good companion dog they are. They like to be brushed and they like to go everywhere with you. Sounded like just what I needed! We had originally went to the breeders house to look at a female, Jasmine, but Harley choose me and how could I refuse that face?? Even my shrink thought it was a great idea to get a little dog. It'll really help me during the days because soemtimes I go hours on end without anyone coming in and I get lonely and sad so now I will have Harley to look after and love!

The husband of the breeder is a retired cop and rides a red harley davidson bike so he actually named him! The name fits and he knows it so I won't be changing it!

Michele, you're right; Harley IS "just what [you] need." When I had my cancer scare and went into the hospital for a breast biopsy, I broke down afterwards on my front porch, sobbing uncontrollably. We had just gotten our new puppy, MacKenzie. We had a grown Westie -- Murphy -- but we wanted a companion for her to keep her company while we were at work. Anyway, those two doggies saw me crying, climbed up into my lap, and licked away my tears.

I'm here to tell you, you just can't beat that!

"A friend is one who shares your joy
And doubles it for you.
A friend is one who shares your woe
And cuts it right in two."

His little eyes are kind of burried in all the fur! Shih tzus fur grow out in all directions from there face. Most people end up putting a ponytail or whats called a top knot in to keep there hair out of there little eyes!!!! I promised Harley since he was a boy that I wouldn't put pink boys in but I thought maybe a royal purple bow would be cute!!

Thanks Michelle! I was all set to get him fixed nice and early and then WIll reminded me of how we regretted getting our Pursian cat fixed and we would love an offspring from him. I really don't know anything about breeding or what the advantages/disadvantages of getting a boy dog fixed. I plan on taling the the lady I'm getting him from when I pick him up about these things! I certainly don't want my baby dog "humping" everyone that comes in the door!

I can tell you that we got our Golden fixed at a young age, maybe 5mths or whatever the age is that they suggest and he humped at MY leg and only MY leg until he was ohhhhh maybe 10! I have no idea why it was just me but he did! Of course my Golden ate window sills too so that might explain the weirdness in him!

If he turns into a troublesome teenager then maybe get him fixed but he might not be a problem anyway. Archie never got that bad (he was fixed at a year old) and we only got him fixed b/c he has an inherited disease so any pups of his would have had a high risk of getting the same thing and we didn't want to risk that (it was miserable enough for him).

And anyway, he still humps his cushion occasionally! That's another thing you can do, let them do what they want to their own bedding but not let them get away with ever doing it to anything else (eg people's legs). It's kept Archie happy and he never humps anything else so it's not a problem.

Oh yeah, that was what I was going to say....getting them fixed doesn't come with a guarantee of no naughty business anyway! My old dog got fixed young and he still humped anything and mounted bitches and went crazy after bitches in heat. So it's not a simple solution - it all comes down to your dog and how you train them whatever.

Ok, so I'm not sure how to ask this in a PC sort of way so I'm just going to ask-when you have the dog fixed and he still humps things, does he ejaculate I guess is the word??? Sorry, I don't mean to be crude but I've not had a dog before and I'm just not understanding. Are they fixed but still shoot blanks or does nothing come out when they hump??

Kenzie was fixed but has never humped anything. Sometimes he gets "excited" but nothing "happens." They say that fixed males never lift their legs to pee, but it ain't true. If there's something to lift his leg on, he'll do it; otherwise he'll squat.

Oh wait -- I stand corrected. He saw a female Westie that he REEEELY liked, and he humped her. Well, who'd blame him? She was SUCH a cutie, I'd have humper her myself! But as he was humping her, he looked at me and said, "Why am I doing this?" The female was totally bored and walked away, leaving him wondering what the hell had just happened.

He shot blanks, just blanks, and he hasn't done it since.
