Vacation photos, lol! I've got a few of those hiding.

Do you ever look at yourself in photos, and have a problem identifying with the impersonation of "you?" Honestly, I look at that woman and have a problem associating "her" with "me."

Denial? I don't know. My I.D. photos look like I was just released from prison. I have some total bald eagle ones, though. I have some former modeling ones hiding, too, somewhere. But they're just about nude and rear view shots, too. (I did a "spread" for a chiropractic magazine and some artsy stuff. When I was in University, I did some posing for art classes for cash. It's a rather "chilly" job.)

You're comment re: cemetary photos struck me, though. When I was in Europe, I took a series of photos of stray cats & dogs in graveyards.

Kate.

...you're paths were meant to cross.

So is the "official" name of this a Hair Hat? Is that what I ask my beautician to recommend me to someone? Do you sleep with it on and wssh it like normal hair? What happens when your real hair grows and the hair hat doesn't?

I'm really intrigued with this. My low self esteem has a lot to do with losing so much of my once thick head of hair. You know how it feels. Horrid. But mayhe I still have enough hair not to have to go this route...yet. I just have an overall really thin hair...but no bald spots or anything. It makes me so upset everytime I see the handfuls of hair in my hands after washing it...or when I see the hair all over my black sweaters.

I still think you are a beautiful person without the piece...but you deserve to be happy with your appearance...so bravo for doing this for yourself. Hmmm...how expensive is VERY expensive? You can email me the answer if you don't want to post it.

Maybe I would have to take a trip to Washington if/when it's time to do this!

Sort of, but it's more like, "WHOA, is that what my eyebrows look like???" I think I also have a distorted view of my weight, because when I look down at myself or even in the mirror, I always feel like I'm a little chunky. (I am 5'5" and usually around 115-120 lbs., but more like 110-115 ever since I got sick.) So in photos I am always sort of surprised that I look thin. I'm also always surprised to see that I have a dimple, because I never remember that either. Is that weird? Yeah. Probably.

I don't have my pic up because I'm paranoid people will see it and know who I am. But, at the same time, I am a bit paranoid that the people on the boards will think I must be really ugly not to put my picture up. Not that it matters, I guess.

Um, yeah, okay, so I have weird insecurities. Who doesn't??

Speaking of, you're pretty brave to keep around nude photos. I am not admitting, er, saying that I have ever had any kind of risque photos taken of me, but, like, in theory, if I did, I always get paranoid and destroy them after awhile. Just in case someday I really do become a hugely popular famous author and my husband gets jealous and insecure and we get divorced and then he sells the photos to the National Enquirer. I mean, who can sustain her literary merit once the world knows she wears a padded bra??

It costs well over a thousand dollars. It's not called a "Hair Hat" officially; it's call a "system." Don't ask me why.

No, you do not sleep on it; you remove it at night. Yes, you wash it like normal hair, but very gently, more like a fine sweater in Woolite, squeezed, not wrung-out. You have to buy a canvas head form the same size as your own head to pin the Hair Hat on and to set the "Hair Hat" hair. Yes, you can use a blow-dryer if you don't want to drip-dry it, but use a low setting.

Most folks who wear a "piece" all the time usually purchase two, and the second "piece" is about half the price. The reason for buying two is to always have one available should the need arise.

What happens when my real hair grows? I get a haircut. What happens when my hair turns white? I get it colored. What happens when I want a different hair style? I'm screwed.

I don't know where you live, but there are Hair Hat People all over the country. Just ask your hairdresser; she'll know.

Beth, I understand how you feel about losing so much of your hair. I see old pix of myself, and I'm shocked at how much hair I had then. My hair loss has been a very slow process, but a steady one. I was lucky to find an honest professional who gave me his opinion on whether or not I was a good candidate for a "piece." Because my hair is so thin and so fine, and because there are some spots that are beginning to be "balding," a "piece" will work well for me. If you find a reputable person, they'll tell you.

We do what we have to do and we work with what we have. I was lucky; I have incredible complexion, so I never have to wear makeup. The trade-off is that I have awful hair and nails. So, I have artificial nails and now 'm getting a Hair Hat. I'm being a Big Girl and dealing with it, and moving on. You know something, Beth? When I complained to my hairdresser (who is also a good friend) about my crappy hair and nails, she replied, "Yes, but a damn good heart!" We work with what God has given us.

One thing I learned from my new survivor friend is don't sweat the small stuff -- and it's ALL small stuff. Every day we wake up is a gift.

Sounds incredible, but I have a stupid question. How does this differ from a wig? Or is this essentially a wig with a different name?

Are you seriously not wearing any makeup in that picture? WOW. You are right -- you were truly blessed with your complexion!!

Your "Hair Hat" sounds super! I'm so glad you're doing something that makes you feel good.

No, I've never worn makeup. I've never understood that stuff. I mean, why cover up your pores? How the hell can they BREATHE? Nope, no makeup for this gal!

Thanks for your compliments. Now tell me, Girlfriend, when are we gonna see YOUR pic? HMMMMMMMM?????

A wig covers the entire head. This is like a yamaka; it sits on top of the head, thus I call it a "Hair Hat." It attaches with little teeny tiny clips that clip to my own hair.

Nope, not a stupid question at all; in fact, it's a good one.

Thanks for your interest, BL! I'll post a new pic of me when I get it in February so you can see for yourself how a Hair Hat looks. I'm jazzed about it.

I'm too paranoid to post my picture!!! And I don't have any recent ones.

Oh, well, what the heck. I'll keep this one up for a little while and then take it down. This is from my wedding a year and a half ago. Um, if you couldn't tell from the whole veil thing. (I made that veil, so don't insult it!!!)

[gone now!]

OK, and here is a B&W one, also from the wedding, so you can get a good look at my chubby chipmunk cheeks.

[also gone. Sorry, missed your chance]

Yes, I DO have the world's biggest forehead, thanks...

Oops, these didn't scale down to the same size. But I am too lazy to fix it since I'm not leaving these up anyway.

What a GORGEOUS GAL you are! Why, oh WHY wouldn't you leave these up? I SOOOO don't understand!

You made the veil? Gee, you do beautiful work. I wouldn't even try to attempt such a thing.

What beautiful eyes you have -- and that killer smile! Oh yeah!

Please keep these up. And Casie can put one of them in your profile pic for you. I like them both, but with the black and white pic we can see your pretty eyes. Yeah, send that one to Casie!

Thanks for sharing.
