All purebreds are expensive. It depends on your location as to their cost. Check around, but again, find a reputable breeder!
Grooming a Westie takes a lot of talent because they're groomed differently than other dogs. The Westies that are shown don't get their fur cut, they get clipped, all by hand. Now THAT's expensive. You want to have your Westie groomed every 8 weeks because the fur gets thick and matted and you can't get a comb through it (it also traps dirt and grease and icky stuff). Also, it gets in their eyes and they can't see. Most important of all, their claws need trimming, like all dogs, and it has to be done often. We take Kenzie to the groomer in between visits so they can trim his nails.
We don't mind taking him to the groomer; it's a good thing. I take the opportunity when he's gone to wash all his bedding. Like all dogs, he smells after awhile, so you wanna keep everything clean and smelling nice.
BTW, he is not allowed on the carpet, and most definitely not on any furniture! In fact, he's never been on any furniture except for when we hold him in our laps. He has the run of the entire kitchen and hallway, and that's IT. He never ventures past the doorway to the dining room, and most certainly not in the living room. When we play with him, it's outside, on the porches, or in the kitchen. He's just a little tiny dog, so a big kitchen is plenty of room. Besides, dogs like to know their territory. He loves his bed and his kitchen.
Okay, I'm rambling now. I'm outta here.

Too cute Bevrs! I love his name too. Even though I'm a big dog person (which I believe you told me that you had big dogs in the past too)I think some small dogs like this one are just the cutest things too! Thanks for sharing.

What a great picture of Annie! She's such a gorgeous dog. That should be your Christmas card this year, if it isn't already!

Thanks LittleLisa,
Yep, I did have a BIG dog once. Max was his name. He was a marvelous animal, extremely obedient and very protective. He literally saved me once, back in 1974, from two big men. Long story, you don't wanna hear it.
Anyway, here he is: From left to right -- Max, hubby, and Jack. Ah yeah, our friend, Jack!
Beautiful animal, eh? Max, not the other two!

Well...my brain is kind of spinning. It often pisses me off that I really didn't have the option of rejecting the possibility of physical motherhood--biology betrayed me.
I strongly suspect that my lack of dating self-esteem is related to femininity confidence issues associated with hormones. I really miss PMS'ing--or blaming PMS! Warped. Many men I dated wanted kids and when I found out I dropped out of the whole game. I guess I hung out with the wrong crowd.
(just blurbbing, now...call it a post broccoli brain fart!)
Sometimes I wonder if I'm mean/cruel for not having these mommy urges--I'd rather be a "cat mommy."
Now, I'm totally not making sense--but I don't have a "baby photo" like Kenzie's to show off and I wish I did. There's a huge empty spot in the bed I don't sleep in anymore because I usually pass out on the sofa...
Maybe I'd better write Santa a letter. Yes...I can't have kids (and really don't want to!), but maybe a hypo-allergenic Abyssinian.
Ah, I'm just really stressed out--a chunk of hair went missing so my immune system is attacking me full force again and I know a cat would help tremendously. I just don't have anyone/thing to love near me everyday. When people start showing off photos I feel sad about that because...I don't have any beloved pet photos to share and there's a huge gap in my life...something missing.
Kate.

I'm so in the mood for a sphynx! I'll hint that I'm open to the idea--everyone in my family strongly wants me to get one.
They are just so poised, so statuesque. They are definitely animated.

Kate, you sound very lonely. Are you single, living alone? Why not get a hypo-allergenic Abyssinian? If your landlord won't permit it, why not move?
Listen, sometimes it's not so bad sleeping alone. I mean, I love my hubby dearly, but that snoring has GOT to stop! Truly, he wakes me up, then I can't get back to sleep. Very annoying....
This comment interests me: "I'm just really stressed out--a chunk of hair went missing...." Are you losing your hair? I ask because that's exactly what's happening with me. I'm wondering if it could be stress or the menopause? I've been menopausal since I was 38 (I'm 61 now), and I've been losing my hair ever since. I've been stressed all my life. Hmmmm... very interesting....
You said your "self-esteem is related to femininity confidence issues associated with hormones. I really miss PMS'ing." Well, Girlfriend, I'm sorry, but I never missed it! Never missed those damn periods that all the other girls had either! I was grateful to be relieved of that mess! Okay, the menopause sucks, I'll give ya that, but not having periods or PMS, oh YEAH!
I've said this before, but it bears repeating. In my next life, I'm coming back as a whale.

I'm not really sure If I'm doing this right, but, my question is for the ladies. Does anyone with cronic IBS also have problems with yeast infections as well?
