Cause I was in Traverse City this weekend visiting a friend for her 30th Birthday (we did a spa day---it was amazing!), and at the airport there, I saw Mario Batali! He was in the gift store when I was, with his kids, buying them crossword puzzle books. I called my husband immediately cause Food Network is pretty much all he watches, and he told me to get a pic or talk to him. I didn't cause I'm a chicken! Plus he was with his family. My friend looked it up and apparently he has a house near there.
Anyway, I rarely see "celebrities" so I thought that was exciting!

I LOVE the Food Network; it's practically all I ever watch. I am constantly amazed at how much FAT is used in what is otherwise referred to as "healthy" recipes! When I see them make a recipe that sounds interesting, I go online and print it out. I have cookbooks FULL of 'em! I like to take a recipe and see if I can make it usable by cutting out the fat content. I've had a few successes, but unfortunately, more failures. I'm still tryin' though...

The worst offender seems to be The Barefoot Contessa and Paula Deen. Paula appeared on "The View," and served the ladies an array of her dishes. Star and one other lady, I'm not sure which, politely sampled a tiny bit of them, then bluntly asked Paula why she uses so much FAT. She responded something to the effect that, "you only go around once in this life...."

Do you guys buy that?

ya I've noticed that as well. However, the barefoot contessa and paula deen are also overweight so that probably has something to say about their cooking.

I prefer rachael ray and giada from everyday italian. However, it drives me nuts when racheal is always like this is so healthful, meanwhile she adds cheese and a cup of oil!

I too like Giada and Rachael, but they both use WAY too much cheese, dead pig and, like you said, OIL! Rachael couldn't cook if she didn't have a fry pan; she must go through a gallon of EVOO every week, which goes into that same fry pan every night. And then she has the audacity to claim her dish is healthy! Hull-LOW?

My biggest pest peeve of all is putting their fingers in the salt bin right after handling the food, spreading the food flavors throughout the salt. What's wrong with using a MEASURING SPOON? Rachael is the worst, which she freely admits. WHY? How long does it take to pick up a tablespoon or a teaspoon? EH?

Okay, venting over.

I think I really watch The Barefoot Contessa to drool over her fantastic home. OMG, wouldn'tcha just kill to live there?!

Fun stuff...

Hahaha I'm with you there, Bev! Barefoot Contessa is my favorite show on the Food Network. I like her show, Giada's and Paula Dean's b/c she is too adorable.
I agree on the oil, though. Eck. I sautee delicious meals w/plain old water.

I wish I were her! She's my idol. Gaida's pretty good, too.
I'll never fit in their shoes. I watch Food T.V. and suddenly I get urges I've never had before, i.e. to blow torch strawberries on toast.

Still can't get Rachel Rae, though. The Barefoot Countessa makes me laugh. Once, for my baby brother's birthday party, I said I'd cook his favourite food. So, he orders LAMB of all things. I smootched her recipe--it's basically as easy as a jar of Grey Poupon, an illegal quantity of garlic, tarragon (I think--it's been awhile!) and balsalmic vinegar.

It was a hit. (Even better still, nobody DIED!)

Yes, it can be inspiring, but addictive too. I only watch it when I positively cannot sleep. Actually, I wouldn't go near a vegetable if it weren't for a food t.v. episode of "The Surreal Gourmet" wherein all kinds of things were food processed and presented on a painter's palatte. "Barbie food," lol.

Kate.
