I used to. I'd make most of my own clothes. That was a LONG time ago. Now I walk around with the elastic hanging on my underwear.
I'm thinking of knitting again though. I have a new niece so I feel like making baby stuff.

I'm a seamstress from WAY back. When hubby's mom was alive, she and I were a great team, and we used to sew for people. I did the machine work, she'd do the hand work. She did BEAUTIFUL stitching!

However, those were the days when fabric was much cheaper than it is today. You used to be able to find fabric for almost nothing. I'd stock up on my faves and whip out a dress in a day. As I was sewing one outfit, my mind was working on the next. If I saw something that I liked on someone on TV, I'd copy it. I remember in particular a darling sailor suit that Suzanne Pleshette wore on "Newhart"; it was ADORABLE, and I just HAD to have it. So, I found a pattern that was real close to the original, and I just modified it. When I went to work the next day, I had it on.

Sewing can be VERY satisfying -- but unfortunately it isn't the cheapest way to go anymore. Fabric is just WAAAY too expensive!

..... BTW, why do you ask, HM?

I like to sew for the house. Curtains, Slipcovers and that sort of thing. I'm not very good at making clothes. I always wait for a sale to buy fabric though. It can be outragious. Do you sew much? I can do beautiful hand sewing but, prefer not to if I can help it.

Love,

Jamie

I have a crap attention span tho and my hands hurt alot these days. But I've made all the drapes in the house...and I'm finishing some cushion covers atm. I also make embroidered bags. I want to make some heat pads and maybe some pyjamas next. I've got some fleece fabric from Ikea...it was a blanket, but hey it was 2 pounds for a huge piece!

however I don't have a sewing machine , I do get to use mom's when I have the time. I also love to hand sew slippers (but I often end up with bandaids over my hands by the time a pair is finished!!)

What a great Idea for fabric! I am in the middle of no where and the closest real fabric shop is an hour away. I'll just have to keep my eyes open and think more creativly. Thanks!

Love,

Jamie
