I guess I've got to think about the person I'm gifting to. I know my stepdad would really think it was a cool gift, but other family members would probably make a joke out of it. Still, I wouldn't get it for certain family members who are struggling financially and would really appreciate something fun or personally useful to open on Christmas day.

I got my mom a gift certificate to the hair salon that she goes to for hair cuts. She just retired on Wednesday at the young age of 58 (lucky her!)so she won't be having an income anymore.....My grandparents (ALL 4 of them are still alive!!)The one set of grandparents I get them a gift certificate to their favorite restraunt and the other set of grandparents we all chipped in and got them a snow plowing service for the winter. That way they don't have to shovel or even go outside. They are just getting too old to do that!!!

I think this is great for the "those who don't need anything" group. I just learned from my sister that my nephews are strapped for cash so it looks like the hiefer will wait until next year!

My niece is not a girly girl at all! She likes black a lot, unfortunately. I wish she was more girly...she would be easier to shop for!

There is a story in the newspaper today that I would like to share with you, but I don't know how to post the link to it. If you want to read it, go to www.charlotte.com. Click on the link underneath the photo. It says, "Gift giving: No presents please."
I think this is a great idea! My family has decided to do this this year, and I'm so excited. We are going to exchange Christmas cards, explaining to each other who benefitted from our generosity, whether it was a gift of time or money.
I'm not trying to tell others what to do at Christmas, but if you are as tired of the commercialization of the holiday as I am, you may want to give this a try. I think it is going to bless our family---and others---and help us to rediscover the real meaning of Christmas.

I am running the drive for our local IHN shelters families to have a much needed Christmas... things they need to get settled in their new lives (homeless being helped to get housing) more then the typical gifts..

Maybe the latest Harry Potter novel? Silver jewelry (as opposed to gold)?
Maybe TAKE her shopping for some clothes she would be into? Or give her a gift certificate to a store she likes (ask mom first) and then take her there?
How old is she...
Beth...wish ya were my relative *hugs*

I think it's great that your niece has her own style and doesn't follow the crowd. I used to dress in black a lot too when I was in the 8th and 9th grades. Hmm...Maybe I'm not such a good example.
Have her parents given you any ideas or suggestions?
