Hi Everyone,
So I havn't posted in months - I've been SO super busy and on the positive side, my tummy has actually been (relatively speaking) alright with everything. I'm having some problems though and thought maybe someone could relate. So I've been on 150 mg of imuran daily for about six months now. It took awhile to aclimate to this dose and some of you may remember my posts about how naucious the imuran made me at first. But now I'm doing better with it, no more nausea, my appatite is pretty normal and it HAS helped with my crohn's flairs. I've even been able to add certain things back into my diet that I once was afraid of (some raw veggies and even a bit of chocolate here and there)! There is always a down side though, isn't there. So imuran works by lowering your immune system. It doesn't go down to the point of nonexistance, but it is compramised. Some of you may know though, that one possible cause of yeast infections includes a lowered immune system. Before starting on imuran I had experienced all of three yeast infections in my entire life (I'm 28) and now, since about August, they've been recurrent every month. I'm getting sick of buying monastat and it's also starting to interrupt me and my husband with certain things - and neither of us are pleased about that!! But I DON'T want to go off my imuran! It's REALLY helped! I have scheduled an appointment with my GP for a papsmear (I need an annual one anyways). I thought about booking with the gyno specialist, but she was booked through the end of the year, and I've put this off long enough already. Also, I figured that my GP might be better at cooridinating my treatment with my GI doctor (since they're at the same location). But anyways, has anyone else dealt with this? What do you advise? What do you do in general to avoid yeast infections (it's never been a problem for me before, so I don't know except the basic advice of avoid tight jeans)! Should I wait to see the gyno? Should I consider going off imuran? (The next step is probably remicade). Thanks for any advice guys. I'll cross post this in the living room to see about maybe more responses. Hope you guys are well - and I'm gonna try to respond to a few posts here before I get off line for the day.

Hey Min! It's so nice to see you! I was worried about you, but completely understand taking a break; it's nice to know that you've stable, st least!

I hate topicals for yeast infection, and opt for an oral tablet instead. Don't remember what they're called, but I ask my gyno for them instead of the creams/ vaginal supposotories. They work just as well for me, but without the stick mess. People say upping the acidophillicus (sp?) or using yogurt "down there" halps too. I'm just not as creative with my medicine, but thot it was worth mentioning.

Good luck, and post back if you get a chance! Your friend,

~nelly~

HI Nelly,
So I did book an appointment with my GP. After talking with a Kaiser nurse, she managed to get an appointment booked pretty efficiently and I'll go in right after the holiday. I'll be glad to start trying to get to the bottom of this - had another awkward moment with hubby again this weekend. I feel really bad because it's getting to the point where there's maybe two weeks out of every month that things are in proper working order "down there" and we can actually have a normal sex life. He's really supportive through all of it - but I feel really upset about it.

I'll ask about the pill you mention - I think I've used it once before - diflucan I believe. I don't know if there are problems with using it often - we'll have to see. I'll let you know how the appointment goes.

Hope all is well for you.

Diflucan, I am convinced, is a wonder drug.

As my mother would advise me, you also may try eating more yogurt (if you can - I know I can't eat the stuff anymore and soy yogurt just don't cut the mustard), or adding a pro-biotic to your diet.

I know that I get an amazing number of yeast infections and I have tried everything from Diflucan to fermalac not to mention acidophilus orally to see if that would help. So far I am still struggling with the situation but am hoping that something will eventually work for me.

Hello ladies, sorry to bud in but I was looking to see if anyone suffers with bloatness after sex, I then started reading the post and came upon you all. I too suffer with yeast infections and what has worked wonders for me is yogurt. I take the one you can drink because the kind you eat kinda makes me gag. I noticed the problem was gone after one week of drinking the yogurt. I now take it every other day. As Heather has said that dairy is not good for IBS, its (yogurt) one thing that I wont stop eating. Besides having IBS problems I also suffer with the yeast infections and the awful smell that comes with it is second to the pains of IBS. I just hope that maybe their is some kind of vitamin or supplement that can replace yogurt.
