Hi, all. It's JenX.

Thought I'd give ya'll an update, since I haven't been by in awhile.

MY IBS is off and on, but mostly off (yay!).

My fibro is under some kind of control. I have some very very good days and some not so good days, but very few terrible days (yay!).

I've moved from Maryland to Virginia (but not to England) to live with my boyfriend who I am now engaged to (yay!). We're planning on getting married sometime next Fall.

Still at the same job, just working from the Richmond, VA office, not the Baltimore one.

All in all, happy.

How is everyone!?

Yay for Richmond! (That's where I'm originally from!) Congrats on the engagement! I'm now living with the guy I've been dating for 2 and a half years (see profile pic). I've been diagnosed with fibro too, so working on that, while plugging along at my senior year of college.

Good to hear from you! Don't stay a stranger!

Hey Gorgeous!

You obviously got my e-mail. It's SOOOOO good to see your pretty face back here again!

Congrats on the engagement. That's wonderful news. Next Fall, eh? Ohboyohboyohboy.

Great news on the fibro. Keep up the good work!

How do you like Richmond? Is RPI still there? (I think it was on Jefferson Avenue?) Are you doing any of your chocolatiering?

and how come you're using initial caps now? are you sure you're our jenx?!

I hope you stay with us. We've missed ya, Girlfriend!

Ya know, I was JUST wondering how on earth you were - and WHERE on earth you were, heh. Congratulations on the engagement! And yay for the mostly-good health - that's always a plus.

Happy is good. Woohoo! And it's so good to see you!

Things are good here - still ebaying, IBS-stable, still with Adam and still in our house in the middle of nowhere. Nice and uneventful, just the way I like it.

You don't know me, but I remember you from when I used to read the boards but didn't register for over a year! Plus, I have pulled up some old posts while doing searches that have had some of your input!

I hope you do stay around the boards. Your past posts have been very informative and you are such a nice person!

So, will you be moving to England in the future?

Hope you're doing well. Drop me a line on the boards if you're interested in meeting up in DC or VA!

we'd here from you about a boyfriend or an engagement when the time was right...YAHOOOOOOOOO!

He'd better be good enough for you!

I'm SO glad you are feeling better!!!!!! I'm also sooooo thankful for your good days....gives me hope!

I'm sorry we lost touch. I was diagnosed with bipolar and major anxiety and I'm on meds and beginning to heal! I'm also in therapy for sexual abuse as well and I'm really learning to love myself and to be confident, etc. For a while I wasn't able to keep up with anyone cause I was sooo suicidal...but now I am too busy I miss you in any case and I'm SO PSYCHED you are back on the boards...you help us all with your attitude, love, and sisterhood!

Btw, I was just thinking about you this morning cause my fibro is flaring (got a cold from the airplane) and how you mentioned you used to sleep from like 7:30 at night to 7:30 in the am or something for your fibro. How is that going/ Do you need less sleep these days? I need about 9-10 hours to function properly!!

Ok, sorry this got so long

Sending you lot of love, CONGRATS, HAPPY DANCE, much to be thankful for and make gratitude lists for, and all you need/want for happiness!!!!

Love you!

There you are! I was getting worried about you because we haven't heard from you in such a long time. I know you have had a tough time lately, but it sounds like you are doing much better. So the medicine is helping you?

I decided about 2 months ago (like I do every once in awhile) that I didn't have bipolar (I'm in denial)----and that I certainly didn't need to take any medicine for it. Well, I did ok for the first month and then slowly felt myself sliding.....Things have been extremely hectic for us. Our son went off to college, we sold our house, and we are packing to go into an apartment temporarily while we build a new house. Needless to say, my mind was racing, especially at night. I couldn't sleep, I was so anxious, and I felt horrible all the time. I just started back on my medicine----and I feel so much better. Someone just knock me in the head the next time I decide I don't need the medicine! It makes my life so much more bearable.

I hope you are seeing some positive changes in your life. You are so sweet! And I have missed you so much! It's good to hear from you.

(((A big bear hug))))

Hey, girl.

I don't need that much sleep, now. I sleep like a sorta tired normal person: about 7 or 8 hours a night. I've started taking liquid sublingual Melatonin at night and it really helps. I was also taking liquid Valarian for awhile, but since I'm trying to get pregnant I decided to stop that one.

Sounds like your fibro is getting under control if you're so busy.... you weren't able to do much of that kind of thing for so long. That sounds like good news!

i HATE that!

if i stay up too late, that happens to me, too. when i used both Melatonin and Valarian, i was out like a LIGHT no matter what. i think it's decent restorative sleep, too.

listen, i don't know what's up with you and Simon, since it's been so long since i've been online, but there are questions about using Melatonin when pregnant, too. i'm risking it during the "trying" phase, but will probably give it up when I get pregnant... just FYI.

Smooches, Linzy!

We were talking about melatonin in my chronoengineering class last week (it's an awesome class about biological rhythms, it's my prof's area of expertise). He said that prolonged melatonin use can lead to an increased risk in autoimmune disorders, so be careful and informed, ladies! Occasional use he said should be ok.

Folks tend to think supplements are all ok for longterm use, and I've NEVER seen this about melatonin! Thanks for the heads-up because my husband already has a chronic health problem that an autoimmune problem would devastate! He just started using melatonin, so I'll tell him to go a bit slower on it!

Bad part is, one of the worst side effects of his daily meds is insomnia - which he already had to start with!! ARRRGGGG!! Medicine!!! Can't live with it, can't live without it!

This out-of-sync thing is totally new for me so hopefully a few days of melatonin will get me back on track. The most annoying thing is, for the first time today I'm raring to go and could get loads done...but I've gotta go to bed or I can't get my zzz's! Maybe I'll push bedtime just this once.

Did you see this post about Melatonin in the Research Library? Melatonin

Do you think it is unsafe to take every night? Should I stick with Valerian or is that not safe either?

How often and for how long is it safe to take Melatonin?

Thanks

I was stationed in Norfolk, VA until Sep 2003 and I really miss it. I live 18 miles from Atlanta, GA right now and I really don't like it down here. My husband is trying to get a transfer within his company to Oxford, NC, which isn't far from the VA border. I can't wait.
Glad to hear you're doing well. I don't know you but I just became a member of the boards not too long ago and I ALWAYS have room for more friends like you. Especially now, when I'm having such a hard time with this IBS thing.....I really have no one down here in GA because I sit at home all day.

Melatonin works in your circadian clock system, basically coordinating your biological rhythms. My prof didn't specify doses or lengths of time, just said that using it long term increased risk of autoimmune disorders. I would talk to a doctor about it, I just wanted to let people know, since melatonin use is unregulated by the FDA. The way melatonin works to help people sleep is by resetting your circadian clock, which I don't think is a healthy thing to do on a regular basis, but that's my opinion. And like I said, I know nothing about doses. I really think you should talk to a doctor about it.

I don't know much about how Valerian works, so I can't comment on that.
