Did you see this post about Melatonin in the Research Library? Melatonin
Do you think it is unsafe to take every night? Should I stick with Valerian or is that not safe either?
How often and for how long is it safe to take Melatonin?
Thanks

I was stationed in Norfolk, VA until Sep 2003 and I really miss it. I live 18 miles from Atlanta, GA right now and I really don't like it down here. My husband is trying to get a transfer within his company to Oxford, NC, which isn't far from the VA border. I can't wait. Glad to hear you're doing well. I don't know you but I just became a member of the boards not too long ago and I ALWAYS have room for more friends like you. Especially now, when I'm having such a hard time with this IBS thing.....I really have no one down here in GA because I sit at home all day. Michelle

Melatonin works in your circadian clock system, basically coordinating your biological rhythms. My prof didn't specify doses or lengths of time, just said that using it long term increased risk of autoimmune disorders. I would talk to a doctor about it, I just wanted to let people know, since melatonin use is unregulated by the FDA. The way melatonin works to help people sleep is by resetting your circadian clock, which I don't think is a healthy thing to do on a regular basis, but that's my opinion. And like I said, I know nothing about doses. I really think you should talk to a doctor about it.
I don't know much about how Valerian works, so I can't comment on that.
