I'm so stressed/excited--kind of the same thing! I finally have an appointment, this afternoon, with a HAIR/SKIN specialist re: my hair loss (which, incidentally, seems to be naturally reversing itself rapidly)! I can hardly wait to HEAR what he has to say! I've been waiting for over a year and a half to see this top-rated expert.

Okay, I'll just let my mind go blank and breath deeply. Must get 'grounded.'

Just wanted to share. Now, if only I can 'hold on to my self!' It's so nice, now, to walk around without a wig, without a scarf--although, my wig is quite the piece.

It's so eerie looking at that head with my hair on it.

Lol, my hair and MY hair.

Kate.

Kate, I don't know your situation. You have hair loss but don't know the cause?

Good luck!

Wow, a year and a half is a long wait! I'd be feeling stressed and excited as well from the expectations of finally getting some answers/help.

When did your hair start growing back?

I'll be thinking of you this afternoon!

Well...yes, I had very nervous bowels and had to go to the toilet 4 times while waiting!!!

It was worth it, though. Now, I'm not in the dark.

So, according to Dr. K., I have aloepecia aerota. The cause of mine is related to a mega-stressed out immune system. He suspects it is related to my bouts with Pernicious Anemia (B12/folate deficiency). According to him, my hair has shown regrowth for 5 months, and also 2 months in the final patches which are etching in. Basically, my family M.D. is to hyper-monitor my immune response via bloodwork. Also, should my hair start falling out, I'm supposed to see him for cortisone injections into the scalp to stop hair cells/follicles from immunologically attacking and falling out. So, that's the gyst! He strongly strongly strongly expects me that hair will be just fine--it passed the strand/rip tests. My scalp looks healthy. He says to stick with the protein and the B12 injections/foods, etc.

I AM SO HAPPY!!!

For those interested in the Silica/hair growth verdict from the doc., here's what he said:

EAT IT FROM YOUR FOOD. Supplements are a waste of time/$$$ in this regard. So, in essence...diet is a big factor and my high silica upgrade has been paying off via eating it. I actually stopped the gel a few months ago without a difference in the hyper-regrowth.

Thanks so much for listening to my brain-babble.

Oh, re: my ability to keep on weight problem...I picked up some fatfree SoGood--it's yummy in tea. Also some soy yogurt. It agrees with me! Wow! I'm going to try and slip a little calcium in my beverages/meals...not bad. It's the only one that I've tried that hasn't given me acid or gurgles, i.e. gas/trots--probably due to its fatfree content.

Lol! I was so nervous waiting that I was afraid to fart! Hot liquid farts made it to the appropriate deposit box!

Later,
Kate

YES!!! I'm glad you made it through your appointment and received some good news! Great to hear you're doing such a good job taking care of yourself and figuring out how to work with your doctor to keep feeling better. It must have been such a relief to hear that you have a healthy scalp! Keep up the good work, Kate. You inspire a lot of people on these boards--me included!
