I am the master at making cool care packages and was planning one for my nephew who just started college.

I bought pop-tarts and started to buy him a toaster when it dawned on me that it would cost more to send it that the value of the stuff in it. So I sent a "modern day care pakcage" in the gift card form.

Which would you prefer? A gift card or a box full of stuff?

I liked them both!!

gifts cards are always fabulous because they are like free money.

however, it is so fun to open something up! My mom used to send the best gift packages. For halloween she'd pack up straws with skeletons on them, and popcorn balls, along with a few plastic spiders. Its cheesy, but I loved it!! Or before a test she'd send popcorn bags, candy bars, study grub!

Either way they are both great!

you could send the poptarts and write on the giftcard "for a toaster!"

my mom used to send us gift certificates for the grocery store. Just like 10 or 20 bucks at a time. Enough to fill the little fridge we had in our dorm room with snacks and goodies.

My sister and I LOOOOOVED this. When you're 18, 19, 20 yrs old the LAST thing you want to spend your own money on is food. This way I could eat yummy stuff, and I didn't have to pay for it. perfect.

Hmm..depends what the stuff is Food? Maybe not a basket. But appliances? Way better than a gift card, if for no other reason than it saves me time that I otherwise would have spent going to the store and buying one.

Now a gift card for food or books, that'd be nice.

Never stayed away at school, but I agree with Avidan on this one!
