i was watching dr. phil today, i think it was a repeat....but it was talking about weird phobias....does anyone have them? or know of anyone who has them?

I am afraid of over-sized things ever since i was young...like you know the pens people get as a joke....they are like 1000 times bigger than a regular one....ANYTHING oversized freaks me out...i get chills and think i'm going to throw up when i see it. I also have a fear of looking up...which again i think has to do with oversized things...it's really a weird fear, but it freaks me out!!

I have a total fear of telephones, but that's actually trauma-related, so it's not exactly weird... well, ok, anyone who's seen me panic when the phone rings might think it's weird, I guess. LOL!

I'm very afraid of the dark... does that count as weird, or just childish? I can't sleep in a room if there's no light - I have to have a nightlight, at least, but when I lived alone I always slept with a lamp on. The weird part? I don't remember being afraid of the dark as a kid!

One of my brothers is afraid of moths. I always thought that was pretty strange.

We're really showing off our idiosynchrasies now, LOL! I am scared to death of moths! Not turantulas, not bees or wasps, no MOTHS.

And also, really big things, they are weird. I have sort of a mid-sleep-falling asleep-type dream, that I've had since childhood, where I'm in a big white room, and a fuzzy little bunny turns into a giant thorn, and then turns into a tiny speck of dust...and all my senses go berserk-differeint sights, smells, and textures morph instantaneously into one another. It's so freaky and I've never told anyone./
but the big things scare me the most. Had to mention that because it seems really strange.

I'm afraid of the dark too! Often we leave the recessed lights above the vanity on at the lowest possible setting. Just a hint of light.

I don't think any of the rest of the things I'm terrified of are weird: needles, guns. Maybe the gun thing only in I can't stand to be near cops because they have guns. I hate it when they get on the bus or patrol by at school. Similarly I hate the ROTC kids because they practice their drills with gun like things.

This fear (unlike my fear of throwing up) is completely laughable. I don't think I realized it until about a month of so ago when I was driving down the road and one of these things drove past me. I was really afraid! And within the next 3 days I saw 2 more. So strange.

Anyhow my fear pretty much applies to any white van along these lines...

It's funny too because I don't think I thought twice about it when I was living in Italy and these things are all over the place, but here - that's another story.

I think it's too many action movies...I feel like someone is going to open the door, drag me in, and force me to reveal government secrets or something.

LOl this is making me laugh..what a weirdo.

Mine is kinda awful...but I have a major phobia of little people...if there's just one, it's OK...but if there's a bunch, I go nuts and feel like throwing up. For example - is it Lord of the Rings where the beginning is a TON of little people??? I forget if that's the movie or not...but I literally had to run to the bathroom and couldn't watch it. I know that's awful, it makes me feel bad..but I can't help it!

My other one is of muppets/E.T./etc. Always have been grossed out by them. I even got a note in 6th grade because we were going to watch E.T. in Spanish and I would have been sick. I don't know what I'm going to do when my baby starts wanting to watch Seseme Street and stuff!

OH - and at Chuck E. Cheeses --- those HUGE muppet things that are in that band...I freak out as much as the little kids do, but I hide it of course Those things really make me nausous....

but I have an intense fear of driving highways (even smaller ones)... all the fast paced backed up traffic, big trucks, not being able to quickley stop and get off if you want to, makes me wanna pee myself. I am alittle (but not all the way) better if someone else is driving. Also afraid of driving out of state, I think that has to do with the highway thing. And driving in cities. I live like 15 minutes at the most from philly, but will not drive to it, or in it.

I am also intensely afraid of fire, like I won't use and iron unless I know I will be home until it cools down. I won't keep lamps on when I go out. There are more things I can;t think of atm.

For my funny one... jello. I could eat it when very very little, but never enjoyed it. Got worse to the point that I could only eaet jello jigglers, but not bowls of it. By time I reached high school, if someone even MENTIONED jello I would gag. Even the smell of the powder makes me nauseated. Probably because it went up my nose before when I was making it for my sis when she was sick.
The way it slithers and slimes down your throat... EWW! I had a thing against spaghetti for alittle while for the same reason, but now I can occasionally enjoy it.

I am afraid of wide open spaces. I could never live in Kansas or Iowa. Also, those wind mill farms....they look like they are going to come to life and get me. We have them along the PA Turnpike now and I have to look away everytime. So weird!

I don't like driving on highways or far places. I would never drive to another state myself. If I had someone with me, I'd consider it. In fact, I have a dermatologist appt. next week and the doc is about 35min away from where I live. I will drive but I usually make my mom or sister come with me. This time my dad offerred to take me. Such a great dad (just gives him an excuse to take a half day from work!)

The other phobia I have is ferris wheels. I WILL not go on them. I'm so afraid I'll fall out.

Ticks gross me out. Not sure if that's a phobia but.....Oh and maybe my biggest is GERMS. I'm not OCD but daycares, grocery stores, schools, hospitals for sure, & doctors offices freak me out. I feel like the germs are jumping on me! Probably stems from my fear of throwing up too. I'm so afraid of catching stomach bugs so germs scare me

Now I feel bad for saying that I thought my brother's fear of moths was weird! I didn't think I'd run into someone else that didn't like them!

I feel better now, knowing that someone else here sleeps with a nightlight. LOL!! I thought for sure I'd get laughed at, haha.

I didn't even realize it till today... a cop car slowed down in front of our house and my heart just about jumped out of my chest. Then I thought about it and it occurred to me that I do that every time I see a police car. Never mind that I've NEVER, in my entire life, done anything that I could be arrested for, making this a completely irrational reaction - LOL!

Actually, I don't think your fear is laughable at all. Growing up, it was completely ingrained in our heads to never, ever talk to strangers, but to really run like hell if you saw a stranger in a van. We were always told that twisted perverts would kidnap little kids and throw them in the back of the van. I don't think I got over that until my parents actually OWNED a van, haha.

Ferris wheels - yipes. Those little cars are just too little!

Bridges! Well, just really long bridges. I drove across the Mackinac Bridge (connects Michigan's peninsulas) once, and that was plenty. I made my Mom talk to me all the way across. There's just something not right about a bridge 5 miles long where you can stand out on the roadbed and see the water below. See, if the road was solid, I think I'd be more okay with it.

That's so funny! I LOVE bridges! They are why I became a civil engineer! They are fascinating to me..the whole math and design behind them.
My hubby is working on a bridge right now over the Illinois River that's over a mile long...it scares me sometimes (a painter fell off last week! He's ok), but I know why he does it - he loves it as much as I do!

If you're ever in Rockford, I do have a bridge to recommend. I work at a museum, and we recently reconstructed a suspension foot bridge. I do like our bridge; it bounces just a little when you walk on, but it's not scary at all.

I completely forgot about my ferris wheel phobia at the time I wrote that ... no lie, when I look at one my stomach drops, and I have never been on one! I think I could be on one with the enclosed cage like things, but that is about it.

I think this stems from watching a Rescue 911 episode when I was yonger and the girl fell out and was dangling by like one leg upside down way way way way way up high and they had to climb up and get her.

My mom will get out of the car, trade with whoever is in the passenger side at the beginning of the bridge, make someone else drive over it, then on the other side she gets back in the drivers side and drives the rest of the way. She HATES bridges too.

I think she's the culprit of my fear of driving between two sides of water. Atlantic City is famous for having roads that have no guard rails and have water on both sides. Hate it!!!

Yes, beds. I have not slept in a bed since my early twenties due to this fear of sleeping in a bed. I cannot sleep in a bed. I'm thirty-one, now, and still sleep on the sofa or even the floor. I think it's one of those death associations or fears of being too relaxed.

I'm always scared I'll be stuck somewhere without a bathroom. That's my biggest phobia.

We love to go kayaking, and I try to make sure I'm "cleaned out" before we launch. As we paddle, I'm scouting the shore to see if I can find a "honey bucket" along shore somewhere, "just in case."

I just HATE hanging my A$$ over a log; it's not fun. Once I had an attack on the water. We were miles down the river, and I had to get out of the boat and "go" in the water. It was gross, and I sank up to my waist in mud on the bottom of the river. All I could think of were all the little critters climbing all over me, EVERYWHERE!

Oh yeah, I have a phobia. You betcha.....
