My first name is Melissa, and I took Latin for 5 years in middle and high schools, and dabbled in some ancient Greek as well at points. Melita (though I've also seen it spelled with two l's) is my first name in ancient Greek. When I was coming up with my first email address in high school, I tried using melita, but somebody had already used that, so I used melitami to stand for melita (a)m i. And it's stuck as my username for most things I do that are not school related.

I'm full of air and a breath of fresh air.

Wind is my challenge; air, my favourite element. Breathing correctly, from the hara, is my current project. I tend to constrict and suspend breath when I'm anxious. I'm working on a more meditative mind, one that is more pranically connected.

And then, of course, there's the "gas" joke. When I break "Wind" it's all air, sometimes fizzle...hopefully not a squirt gun.

If I were a character in a sf/f novel, I'd call myself "Wind."

Kate.

I'm spicey because I was obsessed with the spicegirls when I was 15 and made my name up.

since then all my screen names etc have been spicey so its stupid to change them because everyone knows them.

How fun that everyone got their nicknames in such different ways! My friends have called me Kree since high school. It started when my friend Sara began calling me "Kree-sten" instead of Kristen, then eventually it was shortened to Kree. My roommate in college also picked it up, so it's been my nickname for over 8 years now!

To be honest, it's the same as another e-mail address I have. At the time, the service only allowed 10 characters for the name, and I really wanted Computer in there somewhere. But, when I coupled it with my birthday (8-21), it was 11 characters. So I just took out the 'e'. Unfortunately, that's created so many missed e-mails over the years, but it's too late to change it.

Mine is because my name is Lisa and I'm 5feet tall and weigh 94lbs----------pretty much all my life I've been called some form of "Little". Little one, Little thing, skinny minnie, you name it I've been called it if it relates to small. ONe thing though that pissed me off growing up is everyone accused me of being anorexic. I HATED that. I'm VERY emitaphobic and there is no way that I could force myself to vomit. That's just horrible and even when I told people that I wasn't, they never believed me.

I have managed to survive almost 30 years without a nickname, its hard to come up with something to use other than the standard first initial and last name. Fortunately Zilisch isn't a common name I am usually pretty much okay using it.

My fiance and I love to be out on the water in our sailboat it seemed like the perfect fit for me here since my tummy doesn't act up usually when I am on the boat since I am actually relaxed!!! Course that was until last week when he sold the boat to allow him to move up to a bigger boat. We go look at our possible new boat on Saturday!!! At least it has a bigger head (bathroom) than our previous boat.

You too, Alicia?!!!

When the going gets tough, I think in YODA-isms. There is so much, indeed, to be unlearned.

Of course, Harrison Ford is a babe and one of my favourite actors of all time. I love him in "Bladerunner." And of course...as Indiana Jones!

Carrie Fisher ("Princess Leia") is bipolar, incidentally. Have you read any of her novels? They're pretty funny.

Hugs to you once again for seeking support. How's it going re-orienting yourself into life, etc.? You're brave and have GUTS and COURAGE and dare I say "balls?"!!!

One of the bonuses of bipolar is that we're generally a whacky creative bunch...so consider yourself in good company!

May the FORCE always be with you; indeed it is within you.

Kate.

I come from a huge extended family, and all my cousins and aunts and uncles used to call me AmandaPanda. I HATED it! Especially when I was about 13-15, I really wanted everyone to see me as an adult, and I couldn't stand the stupid nickname. Nobody really cared that I didn't like the name, and they all kept calling me Panda. Well, then my cousins had kids, and they all started calling me Auntie Panda. Having a 2-year-old call you Auntie Panda is pretty much the cutest thing ever. So, I re-embraced my nickname. My cousin's little four-year-old, Abby, said to me last month, "Auntie Panda, I know your real name is Amanda, but I'm gonna call you Auntie Panda anyway." It was so cute. I really want to take her home to live with me -- she's my favorite kid (except that she's tied with all the others).

So, that's the story behind AmandaPanda. I also get called Manderbeth (my middle name is Beth), Bethiepoo, and all kinds of other silly ones, but now my brother has a baby girl named Bethany, so she's getting all the Bethiepoos now! It's okay though -- I really don't mind giving that one up!

My favorite uncle, who just passed away this summer, used to call me Salamander (I guess it sort of sounds like Amanda?) and then Sally for short, then Silly Sally. He probably called me Silly Sally for my entire life. I really couldn't stand it when I was a teenager but then I totally came to love it. He was really the silliest, most annoying person ever, but we miss him so much! I really try hard now that he's gone to look at everything with the same lightheartedness and sense of humor that he always had, and not take myself too seriously!

xo,
AmandaPanda Bethiepoo Silly Sally

oh don't I know about nicknames! I have a million and they aren't all that good.

my brothers and sisters called me
AshleyTrashley.. which just turned into Trashley.. which has since evolved into Trashface. Its lovely.

My old roomates called me crashley

then my godfather and older cousins used to call me smashley which drove me up a wall when I was older.

And for some reason my mom has always called me Ali, or Alley Cat (along with my aunt as well). I guess they dervied Ali from Ashley.. I'm not sure how..but whatever.

oh and my mother also calls me Mallory alot.. and that has also evolved into AliMalli.. or AliMac.

They are ridic.. I swear, I hardly ever get called Ashley with my family.

LoL. No, never got Carol the fat barrel - haha...I never got 'Carol' anything...but I did get CaraLINE (which I hate), and that song - Sweet Caroline, my mom used to sing that all the time to me.

WOW! That's quite the cocktail, Alicia! I just take Tegretol for epilepsy and Buspar for G.A.D./OCD and Temazepam/Lorazepam for sleep and REALLY CHALLENGING DAYS/EVENTS.

What can I say? We're living not only in a material world, but a chemical world.

Do you feel really nauseated/tired? How's the dry mouth/thirst? I am always SO THIRSTY!!! And even after all these years my gag reflex/nausea is always there!!!

Kate.

I am not sure that Ashley(Spicey) or Cara know what their real names are anymore!

Yeah, I have lorazepam too for the same reasons. I use it very sparingly. I had massive nausea with Topomax. With these meds not so much - the gag reflex is going away.

I never call my brother Tommy, I call him Bolina...started as Tom-Bolina, now it's just Bolina...my sister and I have called him that for years, it's like his permenant name.

This is the same as my sisters...Tammy - we called her Tambolina. Then Boline, and now it's Bo. It's been like that for years...people have actually thought that was her name...Bo! LOL

My childhood nicknames were Lippy Lanny, Lana Banana, KutchezRavine (which is a part of my last name) Since I have gotten married my friend still call me by my maiden name - they just can't do the switch LOL

My name was just my first name and middle name - not too creative - I always wanted something clever and couldn't come up with anything so I left it!!!

We also call him Tommy Salami....but usually it's just Bolina. My little Bolina... I'm naming my baby after him! His middle name is Grant. My brother and I are really close.

I like Lana Banana

LOl - Thanks Cara - but honestly I am so tired of it - It has been since I was little and it drives me crazy because it's so old...I don't know - doesn't drive me crazy I guess, just kinda boring now - I am envious of people with cool nicknames...mine is so easy to figure out lOL
