Those older or younger than myself may not remember these, and parents just may well be reading these to their children. But I'm 25 and read every book in my elementary/jr. high school during my days. These were my faves:
Mrs. Piggle Wiggle Baby Sitters Club series The Great Gilly Hopkins Ramona Quimby series Island of the Blue Dolphins Tales of a fourth grade nothing Are you there god....it's me, Margaret? Summer of Swans Box Car Children series Encyclopedia Brown series Charlotte's Web The BFG
I will post more when I think of them. I want to read all of these again!!!

When I was younger, I also read the Ramona books. And, I read anything by Judy Blume - she was my favorite author.
Another I read was 'Memo to Myself: When I Have a Teenage Kid', but I can't remember who wrote it. It was one of my favorites too.
Although I read a lot when I was younger, that's all I can remember. I've thought about reading the Judy Blume books again, especially 'Are You There God, It's Me Margaret' - so far I've just read her adult books though.

I loved the Nancy Drew series. Read every one of the older versions.
I also liked the Harriet the Spy books. I think there were 3 total.

Oh, fun! Every book by Madeline L'Engle, loved that stuff about "tessering" and all that. Also loved Judy Blume till I read "forever" and my mother read part of it and FREAKED OUT. My favorite book I think I read every single summer was The Outsiders. Loved that book!!!!!!!!

Jules...Reading your list brought back a lot of memories for me. Ramona Quimby, Age 8 was the first "real" book I remember reading. I actually just bought a copy of it again a few years ago and read it, enjoying it just as much as an adult as I did in third grade.
Michelle...what you said about Judy Bloom is funny. A fan of her earlier books, I read SUMMER SISTERS a while back. I was shocked when I read it. I guess I didn't realize how explicit it was going to be, even if it is an "adult" book. It makes me want to go back and read her earlier "young adult" books to see if my opinions have changed.
Charlotte's Web is a good one, too.

Charlotte's Web - what a tear jerker. Or maybe I was just a sensitive child but that was a rough one!
I also enjoy Ramona Quimby Age 8. It was pretty popular obviously.
I loved the Sweet Valley Twins Series and the Sweet Valley University Series - I used to read that series in high school.
When I was young young I lived for the Bernstein Bears! And sometimes if they are on Treehouse I will watch the cartoon. I just love them that much!

I have read almost every single book that all of you have mentioned. I agree that I want to read them all again. I love reading, but I do go through stages. I couldn't read at all for about a year that my house was being built, but now I am back into it again. It doesn't make much sense, but nothing else in my life does either so I guess it just goes along with everything.

Kristine - the same thing happened to me when I read Judy Blume's 'Wifey' and 'Summer Sisters'. Defintely a little more explicit than "We must, we must, we must...."

No way! You're the only other person I know of that's read Memo too! LOL
I loved that book. I remember doing a book report on it in 7th grade.
I just checked on Barnes & Noble. The author is Carol Snyder. It's not in print anymore though...I looked for it about 2 years ago, because believe it or not, I was going to read it again.
