I just received the August/September issue of Bust Magazine today (the "Men We Love" issue--wheeeee! ). Magazines are my guilty pleasure, and I thought it would be interesting to see what magazines you enjoying reading and/or have a subscription to.

Here are some of my favorites:

Bust Magazine
Punk Planet
Organic Style
Budget Living
Bitch Magazine
Venus Zine (so hard to find around here!)
Shop Etc or Lucky
I'll pick up a Vogue or Spin Magazine once in a while...

I only have one subscription, which is for National Geographic, but I also enjoy reading People, and any one of the many "naturistic" type magazines.

Maria!Maria! I love Bitch magazine so!! I don't really dig Bust- but I love Bitch. It's the first magazine I've found that's intelligent about pop culture.

I read all kinds of crappy magazines at Barnes and Noble for free- but Bitch is the only one I subscribe to.

Whee, I miss Bust! That was my favorite mag for a long time... I just can't afford the subscrip anymore, and there's nowhere up here that I can get single issues.

I subscribe (thanks, Mom!) to:

- InStyle, which is totally my guilty pleasure mag now
- Easy Knitting
- everyday food
- This Old House - yes, it's true, buying an old house automatically turns you into a home renovation dweeb.

When I have the money, I pick up single issues of mostly knitting magazines... my favorites are Vogue Knitting and Interweave Knits, but if I happen upon a UK mag, I get all excited and buy it even if the price is ridiculous.

I'd LIKE to renew Bust. I'd also like to subscribe to ReadyMade, which is a very younger-generation DIY magazine that's just fabulous.

Martha Stewart Living is nonexistent? Where the heck have I been?

Wait... do you just mean you don't read them anymore? Because it's still being published, according to the site. I'm easily confused, haha.

Well I used to get a subscription of it. I assumed the presses stopped when she went to jail. Maybe they didn't. I haven't seen it in the stores, but maybe cause I wasn't looking. Hmmmmm, I'll have to look into that Casey! Thanks for the info. It will come in handy when I'm at the beach this weekend Martha Stewart and Cosmo, but a combination!

I know, cause I get that magazine!
I also read...

People (I know, it's sick)
Entertainment Weekly (a gift--I actually rarely read it)
Paper Crafts
Scuba Diving
Cooks Illustrated

I LOVE my magazines, I look forward to them so much!

Oh, and I occasionally buy Cosmo, Marie Claire, Glamour, when I'm bored at work or going on vacation!

Bitch Magazine's subtitle is "A Feminist Response to Pop Culture." It's a great independant magazine that covers all sorts of things... the last issue was on Truth, and the one before that on Masculinity. It has extremely well written articles on a variety of topics.

I read anything that crosses my path. I don't subscribe to any magazines--I just start reading one and purchase it.

Bitch is a favourite/staple. I like foreign issues of Vogue/Elle. Shape. All sorts of obscure Yoga and Health/Naturopathic magazines. People. Vanity Fair. Rolling Stone. Spin. Architectural Digest.

Sometimes I get in moods for Discover and National Geographic. I like alot of Pagan/Wiccan magazines, too.

Somedays, I have to read comics. I love getting armoured with a BIG UFO (dairy free, but not caffeine free) and losing myself in the covers at CHAPTERS and coming home with a mass of magazines to snuggle up with.

Well, almost. I heart Bust! It's like my bible. Some wonderful person - cough,bf,cough - got me a subscription for xmas! Next to Macleans (Canadian newsmag, getting very trashy though, will be cancelling) that's my only subscription right now.

But Punk Planet, Budget Living and Bitch are also personal faves, and I have been known to read Organic Style cover to cover in the drugstore ("miss, I'm sorry but this is not a library" lol ). Haven't heard of Venus Zine though...?? (But now I'm interested! )

Poetry Magazine
Runner's World

National Geographic Adventure

Wow, looking at this list I can see what kind of person I am (or want to be - heehee). I do love the outdoors and to be physical. I love photography and I'm a lit major. Cool! I like myself

My staples are New Woman and Marie Claire (Australian versions both), the New Zealand Listener and occasionally in a moment of weakness, Cosmo.

I used to get airfrieghted Vanity Fair, but that got expensive! And we used to have Loop, which was a great NZ dance music scene mag, but if folded. I still very ocasionally get Remix.

Bitch, Bust and Budget Living sound great! Especially Budget Living... that'll be me in a week's time after the big moving flats escapade. Might go splurge my last free paycheck on some delicious overseas mags.....

Atm I get...

Gardeners' World
GardenLiving
IdealHome (sometimes)

They're my very guilty pleasures as I'm not supposed to waste the money.

I go through trends depending on what I'm thinking about. Last year it was a million wedding magazines. Then it was decorating/home styling. Now it's mainly gardening.

I still have my collection of Archie and Heathcliff comics from when I was a kid! I wasn't cool enough to read about superheros. Now I'll read graphic novels once in a while. I haven't read much manga, but they're really popular at our library so I might have to give them another chance.

You have excellent taste, my dear! What a cool bf you have! Does he read Bust too?

My friend picked me up a copy of Venus in Washington because I couldn't find it locally. It covers independent music, mostly women rockers, plus pop culture, DIY, fashion. The summer issue has interviews w/ Sleater-Kinney, Sarah Vowell, Miranda July, the Raveonettes, the guy from TV On the Radio, and some other folks I've never, ever heard of. Very cool!

Thanks to all of you for sharing. You know, you're only feeding my love of magazines, my obsession with periodicals. Now I have a great reference guide to more magazines I need to check out. I'm poor, so I'll have to see if my library carries any of these titles.

I'd love to respond to each of you and discuss the magazines you're reading, but that would take up too much space and time. I will say I really enjoy the Glamour Do's and Dont's, but who doesn't? And Time magazine is what I read on my work breaks.

Yay magazines!

They're great. Sometimes, I dream in animation or think in animation/cartoon. You'd think I was an acid-head. I'm more of a visual thinker/learner--an EYE person. They're a great escape. It's FAST distraction and great alternative reality. Sometimes--don't laugh--but I think there is a parallel animated universe. It speaks to so many different levels of mind, of consciousness, simultaneously.
