Just wondering how many of you with IBS also smoke, and does it improve IBS dramatically if you quit? I had IBS before I started smoking again. I know it has made me feel worse, less energy, heart burn even nausea and dry heaves the first week I started again. Once and a while it makes me get cramps like I have to poo. I thought it would reduce my stress level so I didn't know if it was worth it or not, all my friends smoke and it's hard not to. Don't have the will power to just quit again. Plus I kinda like smoking sometimes despite the deadly side effects. I can't do anything else, can't hard'y drink beer or do anything bad to my body so smoking is like something I can do to rebel. Cause I am a rebel. lol.

Ok, you caught me! I still smoke. TERRIBLE habit and it wreaks havoc on my tummy, but it's the one thing that I haven't been able to give up. I will eventually (all smokers say that, don't they?), but for now I can't bring myself to give it up (though I have cut down DRASTICALLY). I know this is horrible for me - more than just for the IBS, but I enjoy it and I live with my BF who is a smoker, so quitting now would be very difficult. The diet is helping me tremendously and I know it can only get better if I quit smoking, but I just don't want to right now.

I can't smoke cigarrettes because I can't inhale due to asthma. I do smoke cigars, a handful of them a year ever since I was 15. I don't inhale those.
I imagine I would be a smoker if I didn't have asthma, but I live for those cool crisp full lungfuls of air that don't make me choke and throw up. I get a handful of those a year too.

I think it's my alter-ego I catch smoking sometimes! Seriously, though...I try not to, but the harder I try the more I smoke. If I don't think about it, less than ten a day now. I used to smoke more than a pack. Does it affect my IBS? Oh yes...combine it with a cup of really black coffee and I'm having spasmodic BMs until two or three in the afternoon without a break to breath! I force myself to smoke outside, which is a deterrant...I have to sit on the porch...I do this even in the middle of winter without a coat on...sometimes sitting on the cement is like sitting on a toilet. Gross.
