I'll fill you all in later..... but I might be a little slow replying to stuff for a day or two.... I was in a car accident on my way home from work.."I was made into a sandwich".. I'm ok.....Shane thinks my car will be a total loss....(he used to be a claims adjuster)... but will know more tomorrow when my insurance company comes to look at it. I'm just a little stiff right now... I thought I was fine and even went to the gym.... but my neck & shoulder (from the seat belt) are really ouchy right now.... I'm off to bed. I need to be strong for the New Orleans trip this weekend.

Oh, Shell, that must've been scary. Hope you are going to be alright. You gotta get well for that New Orleans trip! So that's this weekend? I wanna go~!!!! Should be a great time of year to go (weather-wise). Actually, I think it's been cooler than normal there---like the rest of the country. I can ask my sister. She lives there.

THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE........

Just got home from my Dr appointment. He says I have a sprain on my left side shoulder/neck... it is clearly tighter then the right. I need to ice it and take short hot showers (so it does not swell up with heat on it too long) and keep taking ibuprofen.... I'm fine with that since I know it will not upset my tummy.... I CAN'T afford to be sick (IBS wise) on this New Orleans trip.... we fly out at 6am Friday....he said it might be worse tomorrow then today.... and could last 2-3 weeks, however not hurting as bad. If it does not ease up in 2 weeks he wants to hear about it.

So, I'm home for the night....stopped and got some "Calm" tea Chamomile... and will just take it easy..... I'll get lunches packed next so I can rest after dinner. Shane is so cute...calling me every hour or so to check on me. He couldn't care less about the car.....

I will take my car to the other guys insurance for a "drive in appraisal" Thur at 2pm (on my lunch hour ) otherwise they could not come TO ME until Monday and that would just drive me crazy over the weekend not knowing anything.

Hugs to you Shell. A sprain neck and shoulder can be painful, you may want to consider physical thearpy if there is no improvement in a couple of weeks.

A great way to ice yourself is to do a deep ice massage two to three times a day. Take an ice cube and put it directly on the the affected area and move it around in circles pushing hard until the ice cube melts. Afterwards message Biofreeze to the area. You should beable to buy biofreeze at the drug store.

Hang in there - I went through the same injury 7 years ago from a car accident. Muscle injuries can take awhile to heal.

Glad you are ok Shell! Glad also that you saw the doc. My sister was just in a car accident too and about two days later her back started hurting her. She thought she was ok but the pain hit her later. Her doc also said it could be 2-3 weeks before it heals.
Oh I hope you feel better for your trip...it's that always what happens when you plan a trip!! Two days before our Disney trip my 10 year old sprained his foot. He went on crutches. We made the best out of it though!

Hope you are feeling better real soon!

Here is a copy of an email I just sent to Shane at work........

Quote:

I need you to call Safco please I don't recall her name but her # is ***-***-**** (she has me in tears and I can't deal with this here).

They are mailing me a check for $1947.93 today for the repairs to my car. She said to take it to the shop of my choice and then if there are any additional repairs that need to be done they will pay the shop directly. She said this is very common.

I asked her for a rental car... she said the only time she can authorize a rental is for WHEN the repairs are being done...NOT to get an estimate. I argued with her about it..... She said, YOU are picking this shop and it is not her fault that they are only open Mon-Fri 8-5pm.... I have to figure out transportation on my own to get to and from work, do it on my lunch hour, or pick another shop...

There is no way I can get this done on my lunch hour... it is too far away.

I said, "What is your number, you will need to talk to my husband because you are really frustrating me" she gave me the # and I said thanks and hung up.

Please note* the last conversation I had with her on THURSDAY... someone was going to call me on Monday to check in with me and see how I was doing.... and this is the 1st time someone ever called me. She did not even ask how I was. GRUMP!

I take my car in Tues @ 7:30am to the body shop..... I currently have a rental approved for 5 days $23.24 per day plus tax.... I will pay for my own gas. I CAN request approval if the repairs take longer. HOWEVER Shane is pretty sure that by time they tear the car down.... and see more damage that was not on the estimate it will turn into a total loss and I will be FORCED to buy a new car. I currently owe close to what the car is worth.... so, the money that they give me will go to paying off the car and I will have to shop FAST....with Shane previous work experice in the industry... he believes from the time the insurance company cuts your check you have approval for a rental car for 48hrs then your on your own... at least that is how it was before!! I'm hoping that I will know by like Wed or Thur if that is the case so that I can go shopping on Fri-Sun so it does not cut into my exercise program during the following week. I guess I better start thinking about my options on cars in MY price range. I'm bummed cuz I had decided to NOT buy a new car and save money for a down payment...which I DON'T have now... but I don't think I'm gonna have a choice. Oh, well... nothing I can do about it... it is what it is... accidents happen.

Just got off the phone with the body shop....

Extensive rear end damage.....
Floor, right side
Frame rail, right side as well as left

These items MUST be fixed due to it being structural damage.

BUT.... it will cost more to fix them then what the car is worth, so.... time to go shopping!!

He has called the issuance company to come out at look at it...he HOPES within 24 hours.

His current estimate is $6,167.33!!

Insurance companies was $1,947.93

STUPID LADY.... Shane even TOLD her WHERE to look... said it was a total loss...... but did she listen? NOooooooooooo....... ya know the world would just be a much better place if people would listen to Shane!! LOL j/k

Now, I need to go figure out what fair market value is so I know what I' m lookin at. If I get approx. $3,500 for it.... I can pay off the loan with $800 to spare... and between Shane & I maybe scrap together another $400-500 bucks I could have $1,200-1,300 as a down payment.... for starters....

I'll keep ya posted!

Just got off the phone with the Insurance co.

Good thing is... this guy that Shane just talked to, he KNOWS from when he used to work for Progressive!! So, that means Shane knows BOTH the guy at the body shop and the insurance!! Insurance guy is trying really hard to get us answers today.... and right now it is looking like they will just repair the car... but he is still working on numbers and making some calls.

Body shop estimate is $6,167.33
Insurance companies was $1,947.93 It is now $4,976 (less then the body shop due to couple of little digs on the trunk (well closer to the rear window) that may not have been accident related, labor to fix would not be much..but then you add paint & time for that it adds up...Shane requested the digital picture he took this morning be emailed to him)

Insurance guy figures IF it is fixed.... I will have a rental for about 2 weeks. So, I just called the rental company and told them I wanted a different car.... 1) the cigarette lighters do not work so my cell is not charged...2) there is a funny smell in there... like someone threw up! GROSS!! So, I'm waiting for a call back on that.....

Shane told the insurance guy that we NEEDED to know if we need to be car shopping by Thurs at the latest because we will be out of town next weekend so shopping would need to happen this weekend....and he was totally cool with that.

I'll keep ya posted.....

Hey Shell... just wanted to empathize with your car troubles. Today while I was driving my car started flashing STOP!!! at me in big red lights and making a horrible warning beep. Apparently a piece of road trash that flew up under the belly of the car broke something and I had no oil pressure. I didn't even know our car could tell us to stop driving it. I called AAA and had our car towed (meanwhile my husband called Enterprise and got a rental, as we only have one car). We get the car to the auto shop and they ask if I want to have the body damage repaired. Body damage??? I say. Turns out someone ran into the side of the car today while it was parked and flattened a bunch of it while leaving big SUV tire prints. Awesome. We're paying for a rental until Monday and hopefully the car will be fixed by then. What a pain in the butt!!!!

I just talked to insurance guy....his final estimate is $4,745.30 (this includes the chips being spot refinished that had nothing to do with the accident) Metro Auto Rebuild is starting the repairs. I should have my car back approx. 6/1-6/2 (13 days). Until then I'm in a 2005 Kia Rio...it's all right but I already miss all the "power stuff" in my car.... oh well...really it is only about 7-8 day of "driving it" due to the long weekend that we will be out of town and we will use Shane's car!!

Such a relief that I don't have to worry about car shoppin right now!!

Glad to hear things are working out with the car. When hubby got into his accident in Feb. the cost was 11,000 in damages! We were with a rental car for 3 weeks and then he had to drive 2 hours north to get the truck. We dealt with Progressive insurance and they were great!!! In Michigan we have no- fault so our insurance company pays for the damage. Of course I can't wait to see our premiums next time around! One note however a car is never the same after an accident. We are having some problems with hubby's truck now and we are thinking about getting a new car. If you can swing it I might suggest that you continue your car shopping. It might be less hassle in the future!

Thanks for the advise!! Yes, we will keep looking.... I just hated the thought of being RUSHED to make a deal so I had a car to drive. We need to scrap about a 1,000+ for a down... because my car as a trade in would be a wash... because I owe what it is worth on the loan.

that its as good post repair as before. I know my Subaru took over 5k in damages in the aftermath of the fire, but that was fire damage and all body, electrical type stuff- no frame.. and was as good as new afterwards!

Oh, well...... then when I get mine back...Shane wants to try and trade my car in and buy a used Volvo S40 Sedan...... we will see... I'm really ready for the whole "car thing" to be over with! LOL

Trust me.. it will all be worth it when you settle personal injuries. I am just settling mine and am happy to have extra spending money for Seattle.

Big hugs until then, though!

Just got a call from Body Shop..... they are HOPING to have my car done by Friday. The tech who was working on it, had a death in the family. They still need to put back in the floor & trunk. So, IF the car is done on Friday then he said he would meet me there Sat (even though they are closed) so I could get my car back and not have to wait until Monday. So, now I'm looking at $285.78 as of today (21 days) plus $38.97 (3 more days) + tax for rental insurance.... That is more then my car payment for one month!! GRUMP

Well, let me start off by telling you about my day from HELL.... (6/15/05)

Note: this is 5 days later then I was told it would be ready.... I believe I was in the rental for 30 days. Anyway....here goes...

I drop off the rental... pay over $350 for insurance on the car....get a ride to the auto body shop. I give them the check from the insurance company...and off to work I go in my pretty shinny car.....

About 2-3 minutes later I hear this rattling noise in the front drivers side near the tie....was not sure what it was. It was only happen when I accelerated and the noise changed when I turned the wheel. So, I pull over to a gas station and call the body shop. They tell me to come back and they will have a tech look at it.

They could hear it, but could not find it.... so after fighting with the insurance to get an approval to have the body shop take it somewhere else to have it looked at and torn down if needed (which I never got by the way, because there was no way to know that it was 100% related to the accident). The guy at the body shop said, "I'll send it to be looked at and whatever the insurance does not cover I will... there will be no out of pocket expense to you."

So, after drying my tears... I finally get picked BACK up by the car rental company, where we have to go pick up my new rental at the lube & oil place.... I finally get to work 4 hours late!! I have to get payroll done etc etc etc...Then I realize that not only did I forget my cell phone in MY car but also my bottle of water, my fiber pills, and my lunch!! GRUMP!! I call Shane and fill him in....he takes it from there....

I leave to get a BUNCH of stuff done for work..... 2 banks, post office, office max, Kinko's (spent an hour there making copies for 4 bids), stopped at MD's to get a chicken sandwich, I asked for a chicken sandwich only lettuce and a apple dipper (sliced apple and you get a small thing of caramel, that I did not eat), but anyway.... I drive back to the office and open my sandwich.....you are not gonna guess what is missing..............THE CHICKEN!! I have a lettuce sandwich.... so, back in my rental car, back to MD's.... and got the right sandwich, my money back, and a coupon for a free chicken sandwich!!

Shane calls me at 3pm to say my car is back at the body shop, the noise is still there, and that he will need to remove my tire and get something out that is rattling around in there....and it has nothing to do with the accident, just bad timing....

Anyway, so I take my rental car back again, get a ride to MY car... walk in there... saying, "I'm back and will try not to cry this time"...the guy I was working with was so cool....I felt bad.

So, I leave there....get stuck in big time traffic....finally get home.... change and get my shake before I head off to the gym....come out and a bird had SH*T right smack in the middle of my hood of my pretty shinny car.... I tell ya....that was my day from hell!! LOL

Aw honey, I'd have been bawling my eyes out ALL day long. Glad your car's okay now tho, even if shitty!

Well think of this...at least the bird didn't [censored] INSIDE the car! My FIL has a convertible and last time he was here I got in the back and found bird poo on the leather seat!

LOL Me too! Oh man, wouldn't that have been great if it were next week already? Shane and Mike would be running to the hills with all the PMS floating around...
