My sister and I went to the American Idol concert here Friday night. Just had to see UNC-Charlotte student Clay Aiken. He is just as cute on stage as he was on tv! We enjoyed it. The scoop: Ruben looked like he had lost some weight, Carmen's hair looked horrible, Ricky Smith was great, Kimberly Locke----WOW--- she can really sing!!!, Julia looked scared to death, and Kimberly Caldwell tried to hog all of the attention, as usual. We missed seeing Josh, the marine, who is not on tour with them. Charles was ok----he's the tiniest little guy! Oh yeah, when Trencye sang "Proud Mary," the crowd went wild. (of course, the fire shooting up from the stage behind her brought everyone to their feet.)
I was afraid of what my tummy would do during the show. I had hardly eaten anything that day, so that I wouldn't have to worry about it, but just the thought of being surrounded by almost 20,000 fans and a long line out the ladies room made me very nervous, but I made it. Toward the end of the show, I felt my tummy rumbling. I searched----in the dark---through my purse for my Altoids and couldn't find them. I had left them at home! Trying not to panic, I did some deep breathing and made it through the night without a bathroom run. A miracle!!!!
Of course, we almost had a catastrophe when my sister missed a stair going down the concrete walkway to our seats. I thought we were going to have to call an ambulance, but she was just a little bruised. Thank goodness, because we both would have been disappointed to have missed seeing CLAY! Can you believe two 40-something-year-old women with a crush on Clay Aiken? Oh well, we weren't the only ones there swooning over him. Others were throwing panties at him. Ha! My husband just shakes his head and laughs.

I must live under a rock or something. I had no idea Clay Aiken was a UNCC student, OR that there was a concert here!

Glad you had fun!

Yes, Clay is from Raleigh, but he was a student at UNC-Charlotte. Actually, the woman who encouraged him to try out for the show lives in Huntersville. She and her daughter were at the show Friday night and he recognized and thanked them for their encouragement. Clay, who was a special education student, worked with their son who had autism. I think that's part of Clay's appeal, that he seems like such a nice guy with a kind heart for others.
