Here's a scripture for today which was really helpful to me as I struggled with panic attacks as we took our car trip that kept me away from the website. I posted it on a string of other "Scripture for the Day" messages, then had to get off really quickly. I got on several days later to see it was buried quite a few pages back with the dates of the other entries it was attached to being about a week prior, so probably nobody saw it. These verses were so encouraging to me on the panic attack inducing car trip that I wanted to share:

"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." Hebrews 12: 2 - 3

I found that if I remembered to cry out to the Lord for help, expressing my inability to handle this IBS panic attack on my own, and then fixed my eyes on Jesus through praising Him along with praise music on the CD player, that He would provide calm, peace, and relief. Even though we scorn the shame that our IBS sometimes brings to our lives, we must not focus our eyes on that. It will pass. Jesus did not focus on the pain of going to the cross--He focused on the joy of redeeming us. We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who endured shame, in order to give us eternal life where we will not suffer like this any longer, and, in the process, to give us the model for how to endure trials.

Thanks, Melinda! I needed that today. I'm a veteran of panic attacks myself - not IBS related, though - and have found Scripture, prayer and meditation immensely helpful. When I was saved several years ago, I was still having lots of dental work and I was a very fearful patient. When I needed a crown, I wrote out several Scripture verses and took them into the treatment room with me - the Scripture helped me focus and give up my fears. My dentist said I was a different person! Little did he know! That gave me the opportunity to share my testimony with him - and we ended up praying for his own faith to be strengthened! It's just amazing what God can do, and what He can use! I hope your trip turned out to be pleasant....

Blessings,
Kaybee C

It did, though I had to refocus on Christ everytime I got in a car. I made myself go because I can't just give up seeing my grandchildren because I have IBS, and they can't always come to my house. One of the things I noticed when I studied this summer on faith was that everytime one of Jesus' disciples cried out to Him Jesus immediately met their need. It was when they struggled along on their own, often complaining, that He would reprove them for having "little faith" before then bailing them out. My problem is that I try to be brave, and struggle and struggle before I remember that I haven't cried out to the Lord for help. My need is to remember to cry out sooner.

Thanks Melinda for that scripture! I have been home the last day and a half with two sick teenagers. They both have the flu, the younger (Dan) was really sick and I was so concerned for him. He had some blood tests and is fine, praise God! He carried me over the last few tough days. Thanks for your support too! I sent you an email today.

In Him

Melinda, that really hit home! I still struggle with self-condemnation even though Romans 8:1 clearly states that "there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." So, when I'm having a bad attack of self-doubt, self-recrimination, I start blaming myself for my troubles - and then I feel unworthy of asking the Lord for His help. Just as you said, I need to cry out sooner!

Blessings,
Kaybee C
