Ok last week I was reading about how a couple of you that have had ultrasounds have gotten D....how come?? Is it because of all the water you have to drink or because of the stress? Im just wondering because I have to get one today in about 5-6 hours (not for a pregnancy) and I will be driving 2 hours there and back and DO NOT want to be sick! Any advice would be great!

It depends where you're having it done...they can be used to help recover from injuries for example. It makes sense that some IBS-ers that get abdominal ultrasounds have some symptoms afterwards as they work on injuries by vibrating your insides (clotted blood in injuries)!

But I'd try not to fret...that's more likely to be a problem anyway!

Its a pelvic ultrasound - I recently went to my doctor and she told me I have an enlarged uterus so I have to get an ultrasound to find out why - thanks for the input Linz!

...they probably use different frequencies for looking at and treating anyway. Don't worry about it! You'll be fine.

I've had more ultrasounds than I can count in the last year!! It seems to me if I have the ultrasound done in the afternoon, I'm fine. If I have it in the morning, thats when I seem to have problems! I typically have a BM after breakfast anyways and I think all the water before going potty gives me D. Its not the D itself that is so terrible, its having D BEFORE the ultrasound and not being able to pee!

Since yours is in the afternoon, you should be fine!! Just eat a light lunch and be sure to try and go potty before you start drinking your water! Let us know what you find out!

I think some people have talked about getting symptoms because of the pressure of the ultrasound. Generally it's a pretty easy/painless exam, but some technicians push harder than others, and if they're really pushing on your abdomen and that's a trigger for you, I think that's when some people get symptoms.

Good luck! Keep us posted on what they find

I had 5 ultrasounds during my last pregnancy and had stomach problems each time. It always happened before the u/s because I was nervous, not because of the actual test. Actually the most stressful ones, when I was afraid I might be having a miscarriage, were the ones I didn't have a problem with. I guess it happened so fast I didn't have a chance to have problems.

It's because of the pressure they put on my stomach. Added to the pressure of a belly bursting with water, it's enough to make my stomach go out 100% of the time.

Just budget your day for a D attack. As long as you're expecting it, you can clear your schedule and get some quiet alone time at home and near *your* bathroom. Good luck!!

Nope no answers yet - they just told me that they would send them to the radiologist and to call my doctor in a couple of days - I HATE waiting for results but oh well. The good thing was that I didnt get sick or D or anything like that - it was just really hard to sit there and let them press on my stomach when I had to pee soooo bad! =) Thanks for asking how it went - Ill have to post an update when I hear more!

Oh thanks for asking. We are doing good. Today is Meike's 5th birthday. It's amazing how fast time flies. Zoe is 4 months now and is finally putting on some good weight. Last week she started sleeping in her crib instead of in her swing or in bed with me and I swear she is gaining more weight now then when she was up all the time and wanting to eat constantly. Who knew? I hope you are doing well.

That sounds like good news!! So, basically, its nothing to worry about and you don't need any further testing?

I guess not (on further testing) I did get a new birth control pill that she said to take continuously and to come back for a check up in 3 months to see if that is helping at all. Im on the patch right now but I guess Ill give this new one a try.

That's great news that they didn't find anything. Good luck with the birth control, I've found that taking the pills without a break has been a life-saver for me, I currently can go about 6-7 months without a period and it really helps my symptoms.

Are you still considering having surgery to look for endometriosis? Or are you just going to leave things with the new pill and see how they progress? What pill did they give you?

The pill she gave me is Yasmin - I did a search on here to see how it worked for people and it was about 50/50 on good and bad. I figure all I can do is give it a try and hope not to get any bad side effects! Im not sure what Im going to do about the surgery - I guess my doctor really wants to see if this pill might help first. She said that if I dont feel better in the next 3-4 months than the next step will probably be the surgery though since Ive been on the patch for quite awhile with not too much success. If you dont mind me asking - Is there a reason you get your period every 6-7 months - what I mean is does it feel like you have to take a week off from the pills? Thats how I feel right now - Im going on about 2 1/2 months with no period and Ive been getting cramps all week long and just feel like I should have one to get rid of the cramps! But on the other hand I would do anything to not have a period because they are sooo awful for me. Well thanks for your post - its nice to talk to someone that knows what Im going through!

Hey Abby,

I get a period every 6-7 months because my body makes me feel like I have to. I start getting really crampy (although not full-blown like when I have my period) and start getting break-through bleeding. I try and push through it but eventually I pretty much get my period anyways, and I've found it'll just continue on if I don't stop the pills and have an official "break" I know some people who go longer but so far I haven't had such luck

Good luck with the pill, I know some girls with endo who have found Yasmin hasn't been strong enough for them, I take Min-Ovral, which isn't a very popular one I don't think but has worked really well for me. My ob-gyn originally said it was the first one she always gave to people with endo.

Hope that helps! Sorry you have to go through yucky period crap too

Kelly

FYI - I have IBS with C and D - yasmin was terrible for me and my cramps were worse. I take Loestrin now and IBS is much better now. also, i suppress my periods by taking my pill packs straight through w/o a break, thereby suppressing my period and the terrible IBS cramps that go along with it. My gyno suggested me doing so until it's time to try getting pregnant, 6 months from now.

Thanks for your reply - I started the yasmin about 2 weeks ago and about a week and a half into it I got my period (or I guess they call it breakthrough bleeding) and awful cramps along with it. It lasted 5 whole days (the cramping)and I thought I was gonna die! I called my doctor and she wants me to stay on it for at least 3 months but I really dont want too. I am also taking it continuously so that I dont have periods but I guess the Yasmin wasnt strong enough for me. Maybe I will ask about Loestrin. Thanks again!
