I thought I'd join in on this one - hope no one minds! I thought I'd let ya know about my style from this side of the pond!!!

Clothes - I'm always wearing black tops at the moment, and because I bloat I like to have something colourful, but longer underneath, so it looks funky but covers up my tum if I'm "out there"!!! Trousers mainly, becoz its so cold over here at the mo, not so much jeans any more, because of the bloating/uncomfortable feeling - but I'm really into brown for trousers and also live in a pair of boots with fur inside, which are sooo warm, and brown! They go with all my trousers! But...when I get home I throw on my grey yoga pants and let everything hang out!! Occasionally skirts, but as its so cold at the mo - I'll stick with the trousers!!

Interior design - I love minimalist, Ikea is my absolute fave, I love simplistic, straight lines, clean and crisp! With a dash of colour here and there, yellows, reds and whites - but as I rent I'm not allowed to change anything) - one day!!!

Thanks for listening!! xx

I admit I'm not following this whole thread -- but I'm with Linz here. All I have are jeans; they ROCK! I don't even own a skirt; I wouldn't wear one of those things if I was paid to!

And don't get me started on those ridiculous panty hose! I remember when they first came out, back in the 60's. We used to wear stockings with garter belts. I didn't like the change back then, and I never got used to the damn things since. Whoever designed them didn't like women, that's for sure!

Uh-oh.... am I showing my age?

Ok, here goes....

As far as clothes, if it's not casual, comfortable and classy, I don't wear it. Pre-IBS, I wore jeans all the time, but now I'm usually in a pair of black pants with a solid color shirt. I don't ever buy prints---and I absolutely love LINEN (the look and feel of it.) I don't mind the way it wrinkles, because I feel like the more it wrinkles, the better it looks! I have a closet full of linen shirts in every color you could imagine. Most of them are long, to cover my tummy and behind. If you've ever been to a J Jill store, that has ME written all over it! I guess I'm pretty Gap-y, especially for a 45-year-old.

As far as furniture goes, my style is Restoration Hardware/Pottery Barn. I can't tolerate patterns in furniture/bedding either (I hate wallpaper). The interior of my house is painted a greyish green. I have a bomber-jacket brown leather sofa with a tufted back and nail trim, a dark chocolate brown chair and ottoman, and lots of black accents. I love adding punch to a room with black.

In my bedroom, I have a queen-size wrought iron canopy bed from Mexico paired with new furniture (black stained with pewter pulls.) Stainless steel adjustable reading lamps on the table, a khaki matlasses coverlet, and lots of pillows complete the look. The only color in this room is a pillow (a black floral print with green, white and clay.) I've been known to plan an entire decorating scheme around a pillow!

The master bath has khaki colored LINEN drapes above the corner tub, a fluffy shag black and taupe rug, and oversized jars filled with cotton balls, pretty soaps, cotton swabs. Did I mention big fluffy WHITE towels? I wanna feel like I'm at a resort. We are going to paint the white cabinets a glossy black soon!

We had our kitchen countertops redone in the big (12 X 12 inch) taupe ceramic tiles (on the diagonal on the backsplash) and had an island made for the center (black stained) and added a granite top. I put in a black sink and new knobs on the cabinets---and I love my kitchen now!

I love picture frames. I have no "artwork" on my walls that I bought. Everything on my walls is personal---family photos and artwork my son has done (the one in art school.)

And clocks---I buy them even if they don't work. Goodwill is one of my favorite places!!!

I used to be a neat freak (before my back problems began), but now I have to rely on someone else to clean my house. I still can't stand it, though, if anything is out of place! I drive my hubby and sons crazy with this!!!

I love color !!

For clothes, I love comfort. Daily, I like to wear matching stretch/warmup pants and jackets. I have several mix and match, velour, stretch, stretch, stretch. My fav at the moment is black with white strips piped in hot pink on the arms and down the legs. I just bought a baby blue just like it!! Sooo comfy, and looks nice to go out in during the day. At home, I am usually always in pj's. I live out in the country, so I usually dont have guests pop in, but if they do, I look fine, it all matches and I'm covered up. I get cold so easy and I like to be warm. Socks, always wearing socks. I do like to dress up though, I love skirts and jackets, silk is my absolute favorite. Pantyhose, if I need my tummy concealed, when it gets hot, you can forget me wearing the darn things. hahahah, sex and skirts???? I don't even remember those days, hahahah. Love, love, love high heel shoes, they hurt my back, so I only wear them sometimes for short periods of time. Give my any type of sparkly jewelery and I will be your friend for life.

As far as my home, comfortable, warm and inviting. I have a beautiful rug in my family room, burgundys, greens, blacks a little lavender here and there. The only way that rug is leaving this house is if I die. My fav furniture, two mens size black cherry colored recliners. I ordered them specially made for the color, looks great with my rug. Mirrors, I have an old mirror, it looks like it may have come from a dresser. I painted it a gold with a hammered nail effect, it is great!!! I also have some drawings of cowboys on thier horses roping steers, with some rusted stars. It looks really nice together. In the bedroom, I love more color, creams, burgundys, pinks...lots of candle sticks in gold and crystal. Crystal lamps with teardrops hanging down, found them in a re-sale shop, they are so pretty. I also love satin, flowers, and beautiful fabrics. This room is not finished yet, I like to decorate as I go. Buying special things as I find them. My h does not care how I decorate this room, I am the only woman around, so he overlooks the femininity. I mean, he never complains about all of my pink! I also have a purple/lavender/white shabby chic bedroom, I keep my pc in there, I love this room. It makes me feel like I am back in the '50's. Though I wasn't born until '57.

The kitchen, lots and lots of rooster and old teapots. I have two long shelves on both walls of my dining room, thats where I keep my precious things, the roosters of course, old teapots, new teapots, a great old cobalt blue planters peanut cookie jar! A sweet little vinigar/oil/salt set my mil gave me it is clear with red polka dots on it, she had it in her kitchen in the '50's . A pint sized canning jar with some old silver spoons my grandmother gave me, love those spoons. I love to have a little black sprinkled here and there in my kitchen also. And, beautiful lace curtains in a linen color. OMGOSH, I love the things in my kitchen. I had a sweet potato in a glass jar over the sink all winter, it grew everywhere, I finally had to get rid of it. I got so sick I was afraid there might be mold on it, hated to get rid of that!

Outside I have lots of flower beds, landscaping plants...flowering trees. I love being outside and planting, watering, and loving everything I have grown.

THats about it.

I hate pantyhose! They're awful...I've always tried to avoid wearing them. My mom used to force me into them sometimes (or tights which I hated as well) but now that I'm all grown up ( ) I avoid them at all costs. most uncomfortable things ever!

Hm. As a college student, I am much more function over form. My room is a mess, and I tried to hide it from my father when he came by last. My clothes tend to be wrinkled because I don't put my clothes in the dresser Generally, I'll wear khaki pants (I NEVER wear jeans (too contricting) and I generally don't wear shorts) and short sleeve shirts, regardless of the weather. Basically, I wear whatever I have without worrying too much about it.

When those things first came out in the 60's, all us working women thought, "what the ---??! How the h--- are we supposed to work in these things!" If we got a run up one leg, we were doomed to throw the damn things out. We all fought to keep our stockings and garter belts. For one thing, they were MUCH sexier, much cooler, and if you got a run in one leg, you still had the other. All us gals kept a second stocking in our desk drawer for such emergencies.

Also, the men loved 'em! (I won't go into that though, not here.)

We never believed, back then, that these stupid idiotic things would really catch on. The men wouldn't allow it! But, guess what.....

So, Avidan, function over form AND your room is a mess ... doesn't the mess affect how well you function? Actually, I can guess you are under thirty and probably have an exceptionally good memory. My theory is that tidy people have poor memories so they have to keep putting things back in the same place or else they would never be able to find anything, whereas messy people have good memories and can therefore remember where everything is, even when it's all on the floor ... Unfortunately, as they get older their brilliant memories start to deteriorate and they have to get tidier to compensate ... Which is the stage I have now reached. This theory is based on the completely non representative sample population of me and a few other people I know (who don't agree with it anyway) ... What do you think?

Heh, yeah I can agree with that. I would say that my memory is pretty good; I can remember quite a lot of random junk, like the opening montage from the Oscars back in 96 or something. The way I see it, I know where it is, and that's all that matters, right?

And you're right, I am under 30; I'm 19.

Well, in that case, you have many years to go before you need to start filing things somewhere other than in your brain! It's a luxury - enjoy it while you've got it!
