So disregard some of my questions

This is FANTASTIC Tina!!!! It sounds lovely. I'm a bit confused...you can move in the apt. as of March 1st? Is that why you're telling b/f then? Or are you giving him some notice?

I pray for you that is should all go smoothly! You deserve much happiness Tina...I'm thinking of you *hugs*

Love,

Hey there sunshine!

I can move in on April 1st. I will give my BF one month's notice so he can decide if he wants to renew the lease or move out himself. March 1st is the date that we would have to sign the lease for another year.

I hope this goes smoothly too! Thanks Ruchie!

I'm very excited and hopeful of many things that will be coming my way soon!

Oh man Vanier is SO bad to move into!

I'm glad you found a place though, if you hadn't, I'd have offered my house just kidding.

If you don't mind telling, which area did you find the house? My sister found some great places in Bells Corners, but she's so familiar with the area, because we used to live there.

Good luck Tina!

Congrats! It sounds gorgeous! Best of luck, Tina!

In terms of stuff to buy, maybe try a secondhand shop for furniture or anything like that (I'm assuming that's the sort of stuff you have to buy?) or if you want new stuff, Ikea is pretty cheap, that's where most of the stuff for our apartment came from.....once again, congrats and good luck with the move!

Isabel!

Yes Vanier is sooo scary! YUCK! They told me that the place was in New Edinborough which is a trendy, fun place. THEY LIED! When we drove up to it we both looked at each other and say "NO WAY!" We weren't even going to go inside.

I will be moving to a street that I lived on LAST YEAR! How funny is that? It's called Bayswater Ave. and is close to Wellington. It's a very old neighbourhood with beautiful old homes. And the street has tons of hundred year old trees. You're welcome to come visit!

Here's a map if you're curious. It's pretty central but not downtown at all.

Ooh, Tina, I don't know HOW you can live downtown! I'd be so paranoid!

I was on Walkley on wednesday, and it took me almost an hour and a half to get home! Yeouch!

I've been around there though, absolutley gorgeous homes.

Try not to buy ALL of Ikea while you're there...I need some of that stuff too!

That's so exciting that you found a place! I agree with you, I think this place was meant for you and the timing is great.

How will it be if you tell him in March and then don't move out until April?

Well congrats on finding it and if you go see it again you should snap a couple pictures!

Hi Brittany!

It will be very hard to live with him for the month of March. But I need to give him notice incase he wants to move or find a roommate for April. If he wasn't so broke, I would just gibe him a week's notice. Plus, aftr 10 years I owe him this much. It will be very hard on him. I imagine that the month will be hard and he'll be pretty nasty to me.

I will try to be away from the apartment as much as possible and hide in my room or something when he's home?!

I will take pics when I can.

Thanks.

Isabel, it's not really downtown. I have lived in the market before and THAT is crazy. Too many drunk people coming out of the bars at all hours. Too many people in general!

I will have to restrain myself at Ikea!

Congratulations! Sounds like a wonderful place for you and your kitty.
It's gonna be scarey but exciting. Re: breaking the news to him: don't expect him to be helpful, supportive, or even civil. March is probably gonna be, how shall one say? tense.
I'm very pleased to hear you're going ahead with your plans though. I think you're gonna find more and more often that it'll feel, as you say, like fate. Things will fall into place and fall in your lap in a surprising way.

Thanks Paula!

I know, he won't be very nice. He'll make my life very hard. I might go stay with my parents every weekend in March just to be away from him. They only live an hour away.

Things have already fallen into place quite easily. So far I've found a place, have lots of support from my friends and feel very positive and confident about this. He was mean to me last night and it just confirmed that he'll NEVER EVER change!

Thanks big sis!

As much as you can, try to remember while you're going through this, while he's making your life as miserable as he can as his parting shot- that he's in a lot of pain. He wouldn't be treating you this way now if he was happy with himself, and he certainly will be doing his best to make it tough for you as you're leaving, but because he's hurting. It isn't really because he's an inherantly bad person, he's just hurting.
I suspect the best thing you can hope for is that this might be the impetus for him to do what he needs to do (get therapy?, or whatever) to get his life together.
Meanwhile, you can't keep sinking with him. But you know this.

I too am happy to see you doing we'll with your leaving.

I think the others here know you a lot better than me, and in that have a better oppinion of your boyfriend, so my statement may just be that of objectivity and ignorance of the situation but i'd think he may try to keep you by being nice. You know promiseing therapy and all that.
Just a thought i had to post on.

Yay Tina! It sounds really nice...I'm so happy for you! Both mine and my bf's first apartments were pretty much dives, so I'm glad you were smart to look around and find something that suits you.

About the laundromat thing, I had to go to a laundromat for about two years while I lived in my old building, it had laundry but it was really gross and people stole your clothes and it was just really bad. I found a really cute laundromat not too far away, with a cafe and video games and areas to study and stuff and it was actually really nice. Sorta a change to get away for awhile...I'm sure there are places like that it your area rather than just going to those little holes in the wall that just have a few machines and maybe a pop machine

Good luck with everything, moving can be expensive but I'm sure you'll do fine

Keep us posted!

That's so fantastic Tina! I'm really happy for you - you're so young and smart and pretty and full of vitality and deserve just tons of happiness in your life! Good luck with the move!

If b/f's hassling you, can you stay with a friend at nights and just stop by the apt for clothes and to pick up items you need?

For decorating on a budget, you could try using paints and fabrics on inexpensive furniture - like use nice sheets to make a slip cover on a mismatching sofa or chairs. Or use fabrics on mismatched tables and other furniture to bring everything together. Just some ideas ...

Anyway, best of luck to you hon, you'll do great!!

Love,

I'll have to see how he takes it. I think I can make him understand that we're just not good together and that we both deserve to find better people to love.

Tina, sounds like you've got all your "ducks in a row" which is a good thing . The place sounds charming! I love old Victorian Houses. They have SO much character and I think you just decorating it how you want will be so theraputic for you. Glad it has a tub I too could never be without a tub. Us "crabs" need our water

You are being so strong through all of this and I know it will all work out in the end....you will be sad at first but think about how your new life will be after this is all over. OMG I hope he gives you the computer. If you can't let us know how things are going we will WORRY about ya Try to do some major bargaining with him.

Lots of luck with the next few hurdles you have to go through. WE are all here for ya though so please remember that!

If he does keep the computer make sure you cover your login passwords or something. Changing or making it where you have to login every time you go to the site.
I don't know much about computer security but if he doesn't know much than that should sufice.
You wouldn't want him posting as you and get you banned if he's the type to do it.

Sounds like you found a winner: nice place and a nice landlord and no neighbors to bug you. That's so cool she's going to let you move early at no extra rent!!

I think I would like butter yellow better too. My apartment is the typical off white walls and beige carpeting. So boring and so generic!!

How'd you find this place anyhow? Those kind of places (upstairs of houses) are very rare here where I live! That is exactly what I want though. Well actually, I'd like to own my own home!!! But not on my salary. Wouldn't even be able to buy a condo on that, but those are usually just converted apartments anyhow.

Hey Beth,

Yes, it does seem like a good place! I hope it all works out.

I work for the city of Ottawa. We have have an internal classifieds area through our email. There's a rental area and I just happened to see it one day and sent her an email. The place sounded so good that I just had to go see it! I rented a house on that same street only a year ago! And I found the ad through the work classifieds too.

It's so great as she was just about to place an ad in the paper. It would have gone right away!!! Plus she wanted to be very selective. She tells me that I remind her a lot of her two daughters that are just a few years younger than me.
