The deal is done. 15% raise, nice sign on bonus... I should start at the end of the month or so. The stress is gone, I have a few more gray hairs, but I have a BIG SMILE from ear to ear. I have officially given notice as they're doing the background check. Once that comes in, I can give my notice.

Thank you everybody for your kind words! IRISH CAR BOMBS FOR ALL!!!!!!!

It's a drink. A shot of Bailey's, in a shot glass, dropped into a pint of Guinness and chugged down. Better than it sounds!

I completely understand Tommy, this opportunity sounds great and Ireland will still be here next year- I will be a married woman then though so no cheek pinching.

Padhraig sends his congrats on the job and his disgust at the cancellation of your visit...have a Sam Adams for him!

Alright Tommy! We knew it'd happen!
You said taht this year would be a better year with a better job, and you were right.
You serve as a good model for anyone that is unhappy at work and afraid to look around.
Think of how much better your delayed trip to Ireland will be, with all the extra moolah you will have

Thanks everyone but now my dad actually posed a few good questions to me. I need to find out how many sick days they offer and stuff like that. Right now I get 7 days which is ok. I know the healthcare plan is fine at the company. I mean, I don't want to make a big deal about the sick days but if its just three (pure speculation on my end) and with my stomach I don't know if I make this move. I still have not given notice to my company. Like I said, I need to make the proper inquiries tomorrow but if I don't like what I hear... Am I crazy?

Nope you're not crazy at all. With our bellies we need to know how many sick days we have available! I'll never be able to work! I'm sick for months on end sometimes. Can't see an employer saying "yes dear, just take 3 or 4 months off, see you when you're better!". Good luck. I'll have my fingers crossed it's enough.

No your not. I was once offered a great design job but turned it down because there were NO sick days. Ya right.

Ask them about benefits. If it's a good company they'll give you enough days. Maybe they give personal days too? But I wouldn't volunteer that you have a condition and might need a lot of sick days. That might scare them a bit.

Don't give your notice until you find out this information. I agree with your dad.

Welcome to the European Union -

the statutory minimum no of holidays is
...
...
...
...
...
20!!!!

I get 25 in my job, Padhraig gets 28

(Tommy and Dalia's husband Asaf were very much aggrieved when we told them this at our NY meet up- the very much held it against Padhraig and I)

Sick days wise I get paid for the first SIX MONTHS of continuous sick leave, and half pay for the next six months!

This is my employer as opposed to the law though.

Last year I took about 17 sick days - 5 cos i put my back out, 4 cos of IBS, and 8 due to 2 different respiratory infections. I need a doctor's certificate if I am out more than 4 days in a row but 3 or less and nothing is required.

Sorry to gloat but its one good thing about the EU!

Much agreed on Sinead's choice of drinks! I used to drink Guiness but now I really don't understand how anyone can drink it!!! It tastes good, really, but more than one or two sips and I feel like I swallowed a basket ball!

Baby Guiness all around!!!
