I'm just wondering if anyone here has ever had breast reduction surgery. I've got a consultation in April with a surgeon and I'm really nervous about the whole procedure.
I'm only 5'3 120 pounds and my breasts are a D so you can imagine how big they look!! I've been having back troubles for a few years now and have finally gotten up the courage to make a consultation appointment.
Anyone have any experiences with this they'd like to share?

Hi Kimm, I personally, am very flat chested but a girlfriend of mine had a breast reduction done. She was also a very small girl and was very large chested and complianed of back aches. She had the surgery done when she was 18, she is 35 now and said she has never regretted it! She says she feels so much better, both physically and mentally. She is a little upset because there was some scarring under her boobs but I've seen it and I really don't think its that bad at all. Besides, who is going to see the scar besides her hubby? Like I said, she had it done many years ago so they can probably do it now without any scarring at all but be sure to ask about that if you think it would bother you. I think if it will make you feel better, go for it!

If you are having back pain because of it, that's a pretty good reason. But I hear that the recovery takes a while and unfortunately is painful. Just have lots of painkillers on hand and plan on taking 2-4 weeks off work.

Well, she did say for the first day or two she felt pretty bad.  After that, she was sore for several weeks but said it was worth it and she would do it again!

She is VERY large in the chest! I'm not sure her cup size, but I know it's HUGE!! Poor girl has enough for me and my two other sisters to all be nice and curvy!!! It's no fair...she got these huge breasts and me and my other two sisters are not very big at all. I think my one sister barly fits into an A and my other sister was the same until she worked for a plastic surgeon and now she is HUGE too. I think she went TOO big! I'm not to bad I'm a B cup and now with being pregnant I'm getting bigger! We have a family joke that when my sister gets her's reduced me and my other sister will be there to take what she doesn't want! 
But I do know how much my sister hates having these big boobs. It's painful and makes her look much heavier than she really is! She too complanins of back and sholder aches  I'm happy with what I have and feel bad for those who have too much! What a painful thing to deal with. I hope she will get the surgery done someday!
Good luck with your decision. I'm sure it will be worth it! And your insurance will cover it too.

Thanks!! Yes the surgery is covered by the government so I'm happy that I don't have to pay for it myself or else I'd never be able to afford it.
I'm looking forward to no more back aches (right now I usually have to come home from work everyday and throw an ice pack between my shoulder blades), fitting into a bikini top that I'm not popping right out of, wearing cute bras (not the ugly ones they make for us larger breasted women), wearing shirts that tie around my neck!! (usually I end up with a horrible head ache after about 15 minutes), wearing a strapless bra, wearing no bra and looking less heavy (cuz right now I'm all boobs it seems I have no upper body!!)...the benefits seem endless....

So Kim, how small do you want to be? I think a c cup is perfect! I used to be an 'a' or 'b' when I was a teenager and that was just cruel. I'm a 36 C and I'd say it's plenty.

what size would you go? See I'm thinking about after I have all the kids I'm going to have....(I think this will be the last one) then I might get implants. Pregnancy and nursing do a number on the breasts So I think I would go for a C I'm pretty small framed and I'm 5ft 5in normal aroud 110-115 lbs. So I think I would only go to a C I hate when women get implants that don't go with their body frame!!!!
Anyhow, good luck and I hope the appt goes well! Have you done your research on the Doc you picked???

Steph you sound like me and my sister - she has huge DDs, and I have Bs...I want Cs, but like you I'm going to wait until after I have kids....but then again I'll probalby never get the guts to do it, and since I don't have pain or anything from my boobs, I'll probably just skip it and deal with what I have 
My sister has ALWAYS wanted reduction, and we always talk about her saving it and giving it to me and my mom. It'd be cool if you could get a discount for that! lol.

Sounds like we're in the same boat, I would really like to get my breasts reduced as I am also having problems with my back and stuff and MAN do they get in the way when you wanna run or something!  I am 5'4 and have a 30" ribecage, so the smaller your ribcage the bigger your cup size which makes me... a G!!  So I was all ready to get a consultation, but I saw this program on TV in England called, "My Boobs Are Too Big". It showed 3 different women getting the reduction surgery. One woman was HUGE and she had all kinds of complications and even after a month she couldn't lift her arms! But then the two other women had it done, and they were both really happy about it... Even the woman with the complications was happy that she had it done 'cause she had SOOO many problems with her back.
Anywho, then I talked to my friend and she is a nursing student and 2 of the women in her class just had it done and they are both ECSTATIC!
The scars can be quite bad, especially if you get quite a large reduction.. Like, there is usually one all the way around your nipple, 2 diagonally from your nipple down to the underside of your breast and then the semi-circle scar underneath your breast. If they have to reposition your nipple, you have a 50% of losing sensation and not being able to breast feed.. but they don't always have to reposition or resize them, so the doctor would be able to tell you that.
I have ALSO heard now that they are doing something now where if you are able to only get fat tissue removed, you can have a type of lipsuction that is much less invasive and with less complications.. but then, you have to take in all the liposuction side effects that may happen.. I don't know a lot about that one yet.
I went to my GP when I got back to Canada and mentioned how much trouble my boobs are giving me and she basically told me I wasn't _allowed_ to get a reduction! I may go to another GP to try and get a consult, but I have sort of talked myself out of it for the time being.
I have never met anyone, though, who has been unsatisfied with the results after getting them reduced.
Good luck at your consult.. let me know what the doc says, if you don't mind, since it always on the back of my mind now.

Thanks Steph!! Your GP said you're not aloud to have one?? Why?? If it's bothering you enough I'd go to another GP for a referral.
Yah I've heard nothing but good things about breast reductions as far as it being worth it!! I'm really nervous but very excited...I'll definately let you know how it goes!

Yes apparently he's one of the top surgeons in the province so I'm not worried about that!! It makes me feel a little better and I'm sure after I meet him and talk to him I'll feel even better about it.

buts its on my list of things to do... once i got my other health issues under better control.. a friend did it last Dec with amazing luck and results..... I'm 5' even with DD cup size and only weight 125, so I'm up there with ya! my sister wants it but wants to wait till after she has kids because in our family they grow with babies and don't go back down (and mine grew with miscarriages)... she's a 36-38G and mom is even bigger.. but has argued against the surgery everytime someone suggests it to her... I think she should go for it with her bone problems.

my doc said the same- my insurance won't cover it unless they take a HUGE amount per side adn even with my large cup size due to the small bandsize (34) they aren't big enough) and physical therapy helped breifly- if it helps at all wiht reducing pain they won't approve the surgery. ah well.. I wasn't ready for the leave from work yet anyway.

I keep telling my BF as soon as I have money to spare, I want to get the little bags under my eyes permanently removed!

Hiya,
I checked into it before going to the doctor and I have more than enough to make me elligable for surgery.. I weighed my boob on a food weigher, hee hee. In the UK, you have to have I think it's 1 kg removed, and my boobs weigh 1.5 EACH so I'm pretty much in the clear.. I don't think it will differ much from that once I am in Canada.
My doc basically told me I wasn't allowed as if she were my mom, like she just won't 'let' me do it (to do with having children, breast feeding, etc) which is why it bothered me.. I think because my doctor is now my entire family's doctor she is a little too comfortable or something with me and feels like she can dismiss whatever she wants. Am thinking of looking for a new GP.

.. and more 'cause they hurt me than how they look (although they do make me look a lot heavier than I am sometimes, like StephS said about her sis). I've never had any kinda surgery before so it would take a lot to convince me to go under the knife!

I've always wanted my nose done! Its really big and crooked! I've also wanted a boob job, I'm kinda a bigger girl but my boobs are very small! As I get older though, I don't care so much about my boobs but would still like my nose fixed!

Definately if I had the money! I would love to go on extreme makeover for the whole deal. I'd also get the eye bag thingy done, porcelain veneers on my teeth, laser surgery (no more glasses), and a burn removed from my tummy. Got the burn from using a too hot water bottle for cramps and gas!

I had it done 2 years ago and it was the BEST thing I ever did "for myself". My best friend did it last year before she got married and is thrilled with the results.

It depends on where you go and if future "touch ups" are included! It the states in runs anywhere from $2,000 on up. I would not base where to get it done at on price though!!! I work for an eye dr and have seen a few of the surgeries go wrong! For the most part though, its pretty safe. Keep in mind that when you get older, you will probably still need reading glasses!!!! Most people don't know that and most of the surgery dr's don't tell you that! If my eyes were bad, I'd do it but I would be sure it is a reputable place that has done a LOT of them. When checking prices you really need to be sure on what it includes. a lot of places will say its only xx for the surgery but than they charge extra for the dr's visit and this and that, so you really have to be an educated consumer! A lot of reputable places will offer free seminars on lasar eye surgery. They will tell you whats covered, whats not, what to expect and you can ask general questions!

Thanks girls! That is actually one of a VERY few pictures of me that I can stand to look at! I'm not very photogenic at all! That picture was taken on our cruise so I was very tanned and had a few drinks! Its a good angle so you can't really see my big nose but I have a "hump" in the middle of my nose and its very crooked. My biological fathers family was french so I think I get it from that side of the family! My maiden name is Rosier!

About 20 years ago I wanted a boob job the worst kinda way, to get rid of some of this BAGGAGE in front! Oy. I saw a plastic surgeon, who had me strip to my waist, marked my boobs up with a black magic marker, and took pictures for the insurance company.
The insurance company refused to pay for the surgery because I had never turned in a claim for a sore back or shoulders from having to carry the weight in front. So I got stuck with these things forever.
38DD. Not good, not good ....

Oh, aren't you the sweetheart, Tommy?!!! When my hubby started loosing his hair, he went on a pre-emptive strike and shaved his head bald!!! I thought he was joking at first! He walked into the kitchen, pulled up a chair and handed me the electric razor and said "do it!" His hair was REALLY long, middle of his back long but he forhead started about 3/4 of the way to the back of his head! So, I "buzzed" it off and he went in and shaved it! That was 3-4 years ago! I actually LOVE the bald head, I think its sexy!!

----a new nose---for my 40th birthday!!! (Call it a midlife crisis).
It was one of the smartest and stupidest things I've ever done. I had a horrible long nose (much too big for my face) and was so self conscious about it. In that respect, I feel so much more confident now. (No more stares from strangers!) My sister had hers redone too, which tells you how bad our genes are when it comes to noses.
But it was the most PAINFUL thing I've ever experienced. I had a hard time sleeping for weeks afterwards because I hurt so bad (and I was afraid my husband would elbow me in the face). My new nose (I wouldn't call it perky. It just fits my long face perfectly now) was numb for months. It was weird to touch my face and not be able to feel it. It felt like I had a concrete nose! And for the first few weeks, I had a droopy smile ----which scared the heck out of me! I thought the surgery had permamently messed up my facial muscles, but this was only temporary.
I would never recommend that anyone have this surgery unless their nose is very extreme (which mine was). It's not a minor surgery or for the squeamish. I had a black and blue face for weeks, my nose bled, and I was in extreme pain.
I still can't believe I did it. Undergoing plastic surgery was so unlike me. I'm glad it's behind me. And shhh!!! We've moved since, and no one here knows I've had it redone.

I too have been thinking about this for a long while. I just don't want to go through all of my thirties with a nose I don't like. Mine doesn't fit my face either. I have a round cute chubby face, but an angular pointy long nose. Very strange, I think.
I'd love to get insurance and have them cover it. I've broken my nose a few times and my septum must be deviated by now!! How much did it set you back, if you don't mind me asking...?

It costs me $4,650 (I looked up the receipt!). I can't believe that I spent that much on myself. I am a huge tightwad. I rarely splurge on anything for myself, so it was very out of character for me to do something like this.
I'm telling you, it was the approaching 40th birthday that did it to me! As it got closer, I kept thinking, I can be unhappy with myself the rest of my life---or I can do something about it.
I can't emphasize enough how bad my nose was. I had a horrible profile, and I felt like people were always staring at me. Of course, my family would tell me I was imagining that. One day, I was substitute teaching at a preschool and this little girl (probably 3 or 4 years old), tapped me on the shoulder and said, "You're nose is too big!" (Like she was telling me something I didn't know!).... Little brat .... but unfortunately, the truth comes out of the mouth of babes.
And I could go on and on with such stories. People can be so cruel. I finally realized that no matter what I did to make myself feel better (such as exercise, lose weight or buy new clothes), I would always be known and seen as "the girl with the big nose."
It really had become a handicap to mem and was affecting so many areas of my life. Now it is so nice to not feel like people are looking at me in an odd way. I used to always notice it when I went to get my hair cut. Every woman in the salon would be looking at me. Now if they do, it's usually because they are complimenting me on my haircut!
I don't know why I am sharing this with you all. (I haven't with many people). I guess because I hear so many people joking about those that have nose jobs---- like they are so vain. And that hurts! Because until you've lived with a huge nose that does not fit your face, you can't even begin to know how emotionally scarring that can be.
I look at people that have small noses and think, "Wow, they are so fortunate!" So mine costs me over $4,000. But it was a nice gift I gave to myself.

Wow, what you're saying sounds exactally like what's going on with me. I can't even get a haircut, because I can't stand looking at myself in the mirror that long because my nose bothers me so much. And I always get my bangs cut long so they offset the length of my nose. Forget about profile, I always look people directly in the face for fear they might see my profile. It doesn't make it easier that I have an overbite and recessed chin, as it makes my profile all the more horribly dramatic. I just need a nose that goes better with my face, so I look more like a person and less like a snowman.
We just had a dusting of snow, and my nose was glowing pink because of the cold and my BF said something about me looking like Rudolph. Man, that almost sent me into therapy, I can tell ya, and it only happened an hour ago.
So yeah, I totally get it!! I'll start saving now. $5K is not too much for a better outlook of how I look!! It's nice to have a price on how much it will cost me to have a better attitude about how I choose to present myself to the world. Funny thing, I actually got a seasonal affective disorder lamp to lessen my problems during the dark winter season, and I felt GUILTY for spending the $200 on it!! And it's a medical thing!! It's like I don't deserve to be happy/normal/feel better!! I too don't spend money on myself.

No, I don't think I ever will. I'm not fond of pain and from what I've seen on TV it would be pretty painful.
I will just grow old gracefully and try to use makeup tricks when I can.

I'm sorry. I feel your pain. I know what you are talking about with the haircut. I never liked looking in a mirror either---and I definitely never wanted anyone to see my profile. If I was at a party or a football game, I would always turn to face whoever I was talking to ----so that they would not see me from the side.
It's been 5 years since I had the surgery---and sometimes I forget that I've had it. This little voice inside of me says "turn to the side so they don't see your profile." Then I remember I don't have to turn a certain way! After living with a horrible nose for 40 years, it took (and still takes) some getting used to the new me.
As for the cost, that was 5 years ago, so I don't know what it would cost today. But like I said, had I known how bad the surgery recuperation was, I would've never gone through with it. It WAS HORRIBLE! What they show on tv is not realistic at all. When they show those women at the gym exercising several weeks afterwards, I just laugh. You can't even bend forward or lean over because the pain is so unbearable!!!! And of course, the plastic surgeon will tell you the surgery's a piece of cake. If he told you what it was really going to be like, he'd scare the crap out of everyone considering it.
It took me about 6 months to recuperate, and a full year for my new nose's swelling to go down. My sister tried to tell me how bad it was, and I was determined to do it anyway. I'm very stubborn!
I'm definitely enjoying the benefits of the surgery, but I went through HELL to get to this point.

that the rhinoplasty (nose job) and the surgery for the deviated septum are two different things (meaning, doctors charge separately for them.) And many plastic surgeons won't fix the deviated septum. Most are trained only to do the rhinoplasty surgery on the exterior of the nose. The deviated septum repair is a whole 'nother ballgame!!! That is usually done by an ENT doctor (at the same time.)
I should've had both done, but I thought my deviated septum was not that bad. But since the surgery reduced the size of my nose, my deviated septum problem is now much worse. (Make the nostrils smaller and closer together, and you don't breathe as well, if your septum is deviated.) This was a big mistake I made---and being a perfectionist, I beat myself up about it after the surgery---big time!
I know this sounds crazy, but I started having panic attacks after the surgery---since my nose was so swollen and one side was totally blocked. After breathing a certain way for 40 years, my new way of breathing did not feel natural to me at all. I felt panicky!
If it wasn't one thing, it was another .....

I hated that show The Swan the first time around, because they did it for people who 'were depressed about themselves'. I just thought, why couldn't they do it for people who NEEDED it...like someone who lost a breast due to cancer or something...I don't know...
Anyways, I think old people are so cute, and I would hate to not see how I will *really* look!

I have a tiny little nose with a bump and ski jump! LOL. Growing up I NEVER wore my hair in a pony tail EVER because I hated my profile...not like people couldn't see my nose when my hair was down.....I just thought it exaggerated it or something...

a nose job. You can especially tell in my new pic that it hooks a little bit, not quite straight. But, my bf loves my crooked nose and so I've begun to feel better about it. I think I'll probably leave it unless I develop sinus problems again. It mostly only bothers me in pictures; I don't think people notice when they see me in person. And my nose is nice and thin, and a nice shape even though it is on the long side. I wouldn't do anything to make it smaller -- I like my big nose -- but maybe straighter!

I was just writing that I like big noses. Well, mostly on guys but there's something about them. Small, tiny noses are a bit too bizare. I had a childhood friend with the tiniest little nose and her nickname was 'no-nose'.
In gerneral though, I prefer people who don't look 'perfect'. They're FAR more interesting to look at!

I'm definitely doing this as soon as I have the money. My vision is worse than 20/800 in each eye! Thankfully I see almost perfectly with glasses or contacts, but I've been wearing glasses since I was 3, and contacts since I was 12. Enough already! My brother had it done 5 years ago and has never regretted it.

Thanks Michele but I do think that the pictures I do see of you ladies y'all look beautiful. And the ones I don't see the pictures on I know you're holding out I wish America did not have this obsession about what is beautiful and what isn't. The media in this country uses women like Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston as people who are "perfect." Well you know what? They aren't. Now that is not to say that Tommy here wouldn't want to date them, in fact I have a call into Jennifer Aniston now that she is single. Funny thing is, she hasn't called me back yet
Anyway back to my point...There is nothing wrong with trying to improve yourself but when I hear about people who dont have money spending tens of thousands of dollars of money to make themselves perfect, well, that is just plain sad.
That my rant for tonigh. Its just my opinion, I could be wrong.
Oh, I still have an emotional attachment to my hair. If it gets REALLYbad, I am SO shaving it off in a heartbeat.

is how I'm going to react to the general anesthesia (sp?)...I've heard of people getting really nauseated from it!! I hate throwing up!!! There's probably nothing I hate more than throwing up....so it scares me that I'm gonna wake up from surgery and have to puke everywhere.
The pain I can deal with....but that part is scary for me!!

I'll weigh in on this one too. I had it done about 5 years ago and consider it the best 2 grand I ever spent. If you're eligible, I wholeheartedly recommend it! Of course, the prices have dropped in an amazing way since my surgery- in the Milwaukee area (where I am) I see it advertized at $299 an eye.

I didn't get sick from the anesthetia. But I did have a hard time waking up! All I remember is the nurse shaking me and saying, "Honey, you have to get awake! It's time for us to go home!" It was after 5 and the outpatient surgery center was getting ready to close.
Better too groggy than not enough!!!! I don't remember anything else, thank goodness.

That's what I was scared of for getting my wisdom teeth out...but I actually kinda liked it - LOL! I wasn't nausous at all, just out of it. Don't worry about that part, I don't think that many people really throw up.

Don't worry too much about that!! Before the surgery, you will met the anesthesiologist. Tell him/her that you are prone to nausea and would like something for it!! I ALWAYS have something put itno my IV for the nausea and never have a problem! In fact, I get so worked up, once they start the IV, the give me something for the nausea, for reflux and a sedative! By time they are actually ready to roll me into surgery, I could care less what they are about to do to me!

I agree, I think its worth it!! BL, do NOt feel ashamed or embarrassed at all!!!! I would do it in a heart beat if I could afford it! I have the huge ski jump of a bridge as well as it being very crooked. I think I was about 6 when I first started asking my mom to "fix my nose." I used to get teased a lot also and it really hurt. Now that I am older, it still bothers me but I've come to accept that I was just not met to be one of the beautiful people of the world! Believe me though, if I ever came into some money, a new nose is one of the first things I'd buy!!
I worry about our kids. My hubby has a regular bridge but HUGE nostrils! As big as Mick Jaggers lips are, thats how big Wills nostrils are!! If our kid gets my bridge and his nostrils, we will have to start saving for a nose job early!

I think there are many of us who would have something fixed if we could afford it. I for one would love to have an eye-lift. It's not in my budget but when it is...I will be looking for a good plastic surgeon. My older sister had hers done and I hate to admit that the little green monster in me has reared it's ugly head. She probably looks younger than ME now!

.... because I have worried about my kids' too. I thank God He gave me boys instead of girls. My boy's noses are long, but but it fits their faces---and their profile is nothing like mine was.
And like many of you said, a big, strong nose on a guy is fine, but the same nose on a girl would be horrible!!! Now, I worry about my grandchildren. I would love to have a granddaughter some day, but not with my family's big nose!!!

My friend had a surgery recently and she said she threw up after she woke up and they gave her an I.V. with some sort of anti-nauseant in it and it didn't really help. Maybe cuz they gave it to her after the fact and not before as a preventative?
I know this probably sounds ridiculous to you....but I really am very against throwing up....there's nothing I hate more. I've been thinking about the surgery and I'm fine with it until I think about getting sick after and then my stomach starts to turn just thinking about it. LOL Sounds so stupid when I think about it....but I can't help it!!

BL, I can't thank you enough for this advice!! I have to balence the way I look against the cost and pain and time of the recovery. I don't know if I can stand looking like this for the rest of my life. The pain issue is very real and I'll have to think it over carefully. I suffer from a lot of pain already, so some added pain does not seem so much to me in the big picture. But it's not like I have the perspective to look at the big picture right now. So I appreciate your advice a lot.
But not being able to breathe from one side of the face seems pretty bad, tho. I'd panic too! I imagine nasal sprays are strictly a no-no after surgery as well. Bummer. There were some lucky girls in my class who got nose jobs for their 16th birthdays, and I do wish I'd done it then (totally out of the question with my parents, though!!!). Would have been nice to get all that discomfort done with early!!

Yep, they can give you something BEFORE your surgery so you won't be nauseous. My son had to have tubes put in his ears twice. The first time he threw up after the surgery, and the second time, he didn't because they gave him something to prevent it.

You're welcome! And yes, nasal sprays are a no-no for a long time after the surgery. The inside of your nose is bloody, has stitches and has to heal. After everything had healed, I did start using one of the prescription allergy sprays, Flonase, and that has helped me tremendously.
About 2-3 weeks after the surgery, I had this terrible constant smell in my nose. The nurse said, "Oh, it's just all of that tissue healing." I was like "What?" Well, you know, you have lots of dried blood and junk in your nose after it's been cut up and stitched back together---and there's no way you can avoid smelling it when it's in your nose.
Kind of gross, huh? It was enough to gag me, but that's just a little of what you have to deal with. And of course, when you wake up from the surgery, you have this gauze taped across your lip to catch all the blood and gunk dripping from your nose.
And your eyes are black and blue, your whole face is swollen, you have a very hard time washing your hair, and you can't put on makeup for a long time. Did I tell you you have to clean the dried blood out of your nose with a Q-tip? (for weeks!) And this hurts like HELL....
Have you ever been hit in the nose? Remember how much it hurts? Well, multiply that times a thousand because you have millions of nerves in your face---and they've all been screwed up---big time.
I couldn't even lift the corners of my mouth to smile. When I tried, my lip drooped and I looked handicapped. Talk about panic! I was on painkillers ---and was still in terrible pain. Sleeping was the worst. I tossed and turned for weeks because it hurt so much at night, and I was afraid I'd roll over and hurt my nose.
I don't mean to discourage you---if you are thinking about the surgery. I just want you to have a realistic picture of what it will be like. My surgeon told me it was no big deal. When I asked him if I'd be ready to attend a dinner party with my husband 3 weeks after the surgery, he said "Sure." That was a bunch of baloney!!!!!
When I see those women on the Swan who've had numerous things done at one time (their noses, chin, eyes, breast and liposuction), I cringe because they must just want someone to shoot them! I cannot imagine the excruiating pain they're in! I think I'd down my entire bottle of pain pills in one sitting! That's insane!
The rhinoplasty surgery is not an easy one. And it's not for the squeamish---or those that can't tolerate pain. You have to be tough---and you have to really, really want this.

I hear ya sister! I HATE puking!! Yes, they can give you something BEFORE. When I had my gallbladder out a few years back, I didn't say anything and throw up in recovery at the hospital and at home! ICK! I have been put "under" twice this year and both times I had them give me something before. For most surgeries, you are in a pre-op room where they start the iv and stuff. Right then, I get the anti-nausea stuff and a sedative. I do NOT want to see all the surgical equipment so I have them mellow me right out before even taking me into the actual operating room!

Thanks for the graphic details and warnings!!!! No one else is going to give me the real deal about the surgery, and I NEED all the facts! I've broken my nose a few times, so I know about throbbing bloody nose pain, but nothing of this magnitude. It sounds like the reminants of a 10 day coke bender, plus a couple broken noses, plus a persistant bloody nose that won't heal, plus that late winter nasal itchiness that doesn't go away and plagues you deep in the middle of the night...! ALL PUT TOGETHER!! Oh yeah, AND they charge YOU for it.
Just give it to me straight, cos it's what I need!!

I used to think there was no way in the world I would even think about it (unless it was for good reason like you have). But since getting so skinny I have no boobs at all. In a one piece swimsuit I make the walls jealous of my flatness! Lately I've been dreaming (dreaming cause I have no money) about getting my boobs done, not huge, just back to my usual b cup. I was quite happy with them before. It's the pain that scares me though. Don't stress about the anasthetic. I've had too many to count and never once thrown up! First up you just feel drowsy then off to sleep you go! You do feel really cold when you first wake up though which is awful but doesnt' last long. Keep us posted on what you decide and good luck

You have no idea how great it is to hear that people can be put out for things and not get sick. My older brother had his wisdom teeth out a few months ago and was throwing up and then I just all scared about the possibility that I'd have to go through that.
Kimm and Cara, you are so not alone on the fear of throwing up. Puking (or as I like to call it, the "P word" because the real world is enough to turn my stomach) but I definitely have the full on fear too. My mom didn't believe me at first when I told her that it's a legitimate fear. It makes me worried to have kids and go through morning sickness. I flip out with the tiniest bit of feeling sick. And forget it, if someone I've been around throws up I go nuts. I remember talking about this with several people on here awhile ago. I know Dalia deals with this too.
I think the good news is though Kimm, that they can definitely help you out and comfort your fears by knowing how this bothers you and I'm sure they'd figure out a way to avoid it.
You know what I notice I do too - with all those pill commercials on TV these days, I always listen at the end for side effects and as soon as I hear nausea or vomitting I know it's nothing I could take no matter whether I'd ever need it or not.

My aunt just had one this past year, and she is happy with it, but it has taken a LONG time to heal, I think it has been about 3 months and she still has bruising and pain. Her boobs were HUGE and saggy and hurting her back, so she would probably say it was worth it.

Well it makes me feel better knowing that there is stuff they can give me to prevent the throwing up....cuz that was a HUGE worry for me. The pain of the surgery I can deal with....but the throwing up....I don't think so.
I just kept having all these images in my head of waking up from the surgery and everyone's gathered around me asking how I feel and all I can think is "I have to puke"....it's really a scary thought for me.

Are yuou sure that you are not being too hard on yourself? I am one to accept flaws in others, but trust me, I do atleast notice them ! I did not notice that you had a big nose one bit! Not saying that you don't, cause I can't entirely remember, but I can assure you that it is not that noticeable to others. I didn't stop and think about it once. You did seem shorter than I thought you to be, I think that is because I am relatively tall myself, so in comparison we were not that far off, but there are girls I know that are your height that look taller, if that makes any sense.
I actually grew up with a BIG insecurity about my nose, I have a longish thin face, with the long nose. I don't htink it looks too bad now, but I wouldn't mind a nicer one, I too don't like my profile. BUT, I don't think mine is that bad to justify spending that money.
Oh boy was I teased in school when I was younger! But, I did grow into it, so it is not something I am upset about now. Oh boy did I think I was gonna be an ugly duckling forever back then... big nose that overwhelmed face, braces, glasses, tooo skinny, taller than everyone else, no boobs, the list goes on. I still have esteem issues, but I think I matured quite well into a fairly attractive looking woman.

That is true SS! I am not trying to offend any men with small noses, who knows, there may be some that still look masculine. But, I identify small noses on men with perfect, girly, metrosexual, boy-band Justin Timberlake type guys, and that is not my thing.
I like guys that are manly! They don't need to be big and macho though, just not "dainty".
And Nelly and Dalia can testify to this, my BF Chris has a BIG honkin' nose! We all used to tease him about it, but his friends and I have grown up and let it go. It looks good on him, so I don't mind. I even give him kisses on his nose when I am being affectionate and he loves it!

My BF's nose is very Saxon, kinda wide but def not Roman, but he gets to be the exception to ALL of my rules. He is also a BLOND, which normally I don't go for. And younger than me, also a no-no. Yes, I look my age (21), but sometimes older (especially cause the glasses). Most people guess my age at twenty six when they meet me. I have ALWAYS been told I am alot more mature than my age, and that kinda sucks It means I do not fit in anywhere! last year anytime I met people in their mid- late twenties we would hit it off, then when the age came out, or the invite to the bar, I would get the "baby" comments and the brush off. And it is hard to fit in with kids my age.
About Chris looking a couple years older, he is! I turned 21 in October, he turns 24 in March. So, there is about three years different. he is older than my OLDER sister by like a year, and his little bro is only 2 MONTHS younger than me. It doesn't matter with the difference of ages now, but he will where a highschool shirt that says "1996", and I will be like - Woa! that was my first year of middle school! Atfirst he was embarrased by the age difference, I had just turned 19 and he was about to turn 22. He said that once I turned 20 it sounded more acceptable.
I think it also embarrased him that we couldn't double date out alot with some of his buddies, cause his girlfriend wouldn't have made it past the bouncer
Big feet, forgot that one!
Oh, and frizzy hair that NEVER smoothed down with all the gel and hair products imaginable! My era was the slicked straight as possible hair, I always wished I was a teen in the eighties, I would have fit right in!

it's not the face that I'm worried about wrinkling as I age. It's the rest of my body. In the past year (I'm 45), I've had problems with my vision, feet, back, stomach, and teeth. And now I think I may have arthritis!!! All I do is go to doctor's appointments.
Most of my friends are 5-10 years older, so when we get together, it's really depressing to hear about their health problems, their spouse's health problems, and the problems they have with their aging parents. I think I'm the only one in my women's group that hasn't had to put my parents in a nursing home. (knock on wood! they've been healthy so far)
I love the arthritis medicine ad that says, "I don't want to run a marathon. I just want to walk down my driveway to get my paper every morning."
That's how I feel! I've lowered my expectations tremendously.

Oh it's totally normal to worry about your health as you age I think.....but my issue is that society has us all believing that looking good means looking younger than you are....and I think that's a load of @#$%
I think we should feel good about ourselves whether or not we have a few wrinkles and realize that it's natural to age and unnatural to look 30 at 60....you know?

I hate seeing these celebrities on tv that you know are between 60 and 70 years old, but they've had so much plastic surgery that they just look like their faces having been stretched with a rubber band.
Maybe that's why they call it "plastic surgery," because if you have too much of it, you look plastic!

Oh, yeah, I'm sure. The rest is just dealing with the uncomfort and lingering pain.
On the note of vets "fixing" things, I met a vet last week who does pet piercing. I once pierced a cat's ear in 1989, so I was wondering if anyone did it professionally. It was more popular in the '70's, I think. You hardly ever see pets with pierced ears anymore.

Nelly! Pierce a cat's ear? Are you serious? AS cool as that sounds like it would look, I hope he/she was willing! THose poor things, that must hurt so bad, and really mess up their special kitty hearing. I can't beleive people proffessionally do that, it seems so unethical!
