I have had IBS-C for many, many years. I am now 50, and menopausel. This past year just seems to have gotten worse.Terrible cramping, waking up in the middle of the night with awlful pains in my stomach. It goes from constipation to diahrea back and forth. Then just recently this terrible pain on my right side under the ribs then burning in my throat. I had a colonscopy, then I just had a enocospy, blood work. The enocospy showed hiatus hernia and reflux. The doctor put me on nexum and I've been on the zelnorm for awhile. I don't think the zelnorm does anything. The burning has stopped and the pain so maybe it is from the nexum. I just got Heather's book and I can't belive I have been doing everything wrong. I always thought having insolable fiber was the key. But I'm still afraid that having the soluble fiber first will be just as bad.I'm really going to follow it, and it will be hard because my family will not like it.

Hi Robin, welcome to the boards. My family didn't like it much when I started the diet either but they eventually get used to it. Especially when you start cooking some of the yummy meals in the recipie section (I didn't tell my family when I did it so they didn't think they were on a special diet ). My doctor prescribed Nexum for me a couple of years ago as I have gastric reflux and he thought I might have an ulcer. I didn't end up taking it though which was very naughty of me so I can't tell you if it made me burn or not. Maybe you should ask your doc if it's a possible side effect? Hope you're feeling better soon and I'll see you around the boards
