Hello Everyone!

I'm new to this board - just wanted to say hello and that is it so nice to have discovered this message board!! I hope to get to know some of you through our discussions!

Just the basics about me...

I've had IBS now for 5 years. It's gone from bad to worse, to good, and back to bad again...you know how this stuff fluctuates. I live in a suburb outside of Philadelphia, PA. and work for a mutual fund company. I'm married, no kids yet, but a tiny little dog, who might as well be my child.

Btw...I'm curious - does anyone else on here also deal with upper GI problems? I have acid reflux and I'm on a large daily dose of Nexium, which doesn't always help, and I have a LOT of pressure/bloating/burping every day. I need to get back to my gastroenterologist to figure this stuff out. If anyone could shed some light on how this works with your IBS, I would greatly appreciate it.

Have a good day!
Bre

Hello and Welcome BRE!! Many of us do also suffered from acid reflux and other problems. I take a small dose of pepcid for my acid reflu and that keeps it unders control mostly.

Just an FYI, here in The Living Room is a great place to chitty chat about non ibs stuff. Sure, we all have ibs so it does come up here but for the most advice on IBS stuff, post it in the diet section.

If you want to chat about your dog, as most of us are animal lovers here, this is the place to do it! I noticed you said you didn't have any kids YET, are you think about it? Just curious because there are several girls who are pregnant right now and several of us, myself included, trying to have babies!

Anyway, Welcome to the boards and hope to see you around!

Hi Michele! Nice to meet you!!

Thanks for the update and how the posts work...I'm still perusing the boards reading everything.

Yes, we want to have kids...we're not actually "trying" right now, but we'll probably start sometime this year. To be honest, my stomach stuff scares me off of being pregnant - although I'll just have to suck it up eventually. We've been married almost 4 years now, just bought a new house, so it's time

As for my dog - he's my child for now. Actually, he's probably more spoiled than my child will be!! He's a little 5 pound Yorkie/Shih-Tzu mix named Sullivan (we call him Sulley). He has the SWEETEST personality and it's a real cuddle bug and blanket lover just like me. Gotta say...he's definitely the apple of my eye. So all you animal lovers out there-what do you have?

First of all welcome!!

Second of all I also suffer from acid reflux and I am on Nexium (40 mg a day I believe? Have to look at Rx.) I find that the Nexium is helpful b/c I recently switched to Aciphex for about a week and let me tell ya I was crying for my Nexium. I also have alot of belching and gas everyday. (that is often very loud. ) My DH says I can beat the best of men in a belching contest, not exactly one of my goals in life. However, the awful heartburn and reflux of food up to the back of my throat after eating has lessened greatly w/ the Nexium. The GI I see says that my acid reflux is due to a mild hiatal hernia which in turn irritates my tummy and may be a factor to my IBS as well as stress and trigger foods and maybe even food allergies or trauma to tummy during pregnancy. In other words they don't know exactly what causes the IBS. My GI won't fix hernia since it is mild and said I will probably take Nexium for the rest of my life.

Good Luck, maybe you can find some answers from your doc.

I have two cats. One is a persian, he is orange and white and FLUFFY and his lower fang sticks out of his mouth so he looks like he is growling all the time but he is just the sweetist thing in the world! His name is Mingus but we call him Big Boy! My other kitty is a short hair grey domestic, she's a bit more wild and likes to go outside, we don't like the other kitty out, he is strictly an indoor guy! The grey kitty is a female and her name is Chloe. I love my kitties so much, they bring me so much joy!

I've been marreid just over 5 years and we bought a house when we first got married. Its a bit small but cozy. Houses in the city are so expensive! We have been "trying" since Febuary and I'm now in the process of my third miscarriage. However, I'm feeling much better about this as I just scheduled an appt with a RE, they are specialsts in repeat miscarriages and I think she can help me carry a baby to term next time! You will see baby making threads in this forum so feel free to jump in if you are ready, warning-they are usually very frank! We discuss most everything very openly here!! I mean, after talking about our BM's and gas and such, not much else left to be embarrassed about!

Actually, many women find relief in their IBS when pregnant!!! Especially if you are a D (dirreah). Me, being mostly C (constipation) my C gets worse but some of the other things seems to get a bit better. Hopefully this diet willhelp you get things with your tummy under control so you can start you family!

14lb. Yorkie named J.R. and an American Bulldog (75lbs. and growing) named Tinkerbell. I know go ahead and laugh at the names!! My Dh thought it would be funny to call that big brute dog Tinkerbell and everyone would think you were talking about the yorkie. Ha! Ha! Ha!

Nice to meet you Christie! I understand the belching! Sometimes my husband looks at me like I'm nuts b/c I have to let it out! I basically always have the pressure and feeling like I have to burp all day every day. Haha - aren't we ladylike I'm on 80 mg. of Nexium a day. Not a fun problem to have, but I guess after all the stomach junk we deal with with everything else, what's one more problem?

Your cats sound so adorable - I laughed out loud picturing the little guy with the fang sticking out. My Sulley always has part of his tongue sticking out - that's what drew us to him in the first place. He always looks a little goofy.

I'm SO SORRY to hear about your 3 miscarriages - that is so sad. I do have some hope for you though...a friend of mine has a disorder (can't remember the name) where the fetus can't attach properly to the uterus, so she miscarries...
After dealing with fertility specialists, she has now had 3 kids and is pregnant with her 4th!! There is a silver lining - good luck to you!!

That is SO good to hear that IBS often gets better with pregnancy - I am a "D," as you call it here, so hopefully it will! I need to just suck it up, dive in, and hope for the best. It's not like I can avoid it altogether when I want kids so badly...
