Hi Sweetie,

I peek in here occasionally, but I don't post much because I don't know any of the new people -- and there are SOOOOOO many of them! So many of us "old-timers" have disappeared.

I'm so sorry about your sinus infection and the antibiotics. I'm on them too, but for yet another damn UTI (I have GOT to learn how to drink water!). Thankfully the antibiotics don't bother me.

Really bad news about your father. 85 is too old to be driving. You have to be firm with him. When Don's mom turned 80, she was still behind the wheel when she realized she couldn't drive any more; she wasn't safe, and she knew it. She handed Don her keys and driver's license and never looked back -- until we got her a golf cart, just to drive around the area (she lived on a golf course). She had a ball with that little cart; I used to enjoy going out with her. We were terrific pals. But when she came down with Altzheimer's and ended up on the freeway in that little golf cart, that was when we had to get tough with her -- and it was damn hard to do, believe me! We took away the golf cart AND her freedom, and put her in a home for Altzheimer's patients. I won't go into the details, because they weren't pretty. I'll just say that she fought, physically fought the nurses, kicking and screaming -- we had to remove her and try another home, one after another. It was horrible.

Gayla, you do what you have to do to protect your father, even if he doesn't realize it. Getting old sucks, and we don't wanna face the fact that we can no longer do what we've been doing so well for over 40 years ("I've been driving longer than you've been LIVING!"), but whether or not your father realizes it, he's lucky to have you guys there to protect him. When I'm his age, there will be no one to help me, absolutely no one. I hope you can somehow let him know that.

{{{{Hugs}}}}

P.S.: You can always reach me through Barbie; she and I are sisters and e-mail each other several times a day. If you'd like to e-mail me directly, I'm at RowHard@comcast.net
