Yikes, you won't believe what I found in my bathroom. . .

I went downstairs (finished basement) to do laundry and there laying on the bathroom floor was a huge, dead RAT. Yes, I said RAT. My 9 1/2 year old cat, who thinks she is young again since we moved, went out hunting last night. We have a vacant lot across the street from our house and I guess she thought it would be very nice to bring a little present home. I can handle most anything, bugs, etc. except rats. Of course DH is gone. Fortunately my son was home. I called him down and told him he was a man and needed to take care of it for me. He's 18, its about time he learned to do these type of manly things. He asked if I would hold the bag but I couldn't go anywhere near the bathroom or look at the rat. I just hate them.
Sweet boy that he is, he bagged it up and took it right to the trash. Lucky for me he was home or I would have had to do it myself. My kitty is now cut off from going out at night. I usually leave a window open for her to come and go but not anymore. I am counting my lucky stars that she did all of this downstairs and didn't bring it up to my bedroom. I have heard of cats that do that.

Oh that is gross! I have a Yorkie who thinks he is a cat. He has brought me two baby bunnies in the past. We have bunnies running all over our neighborhood. It is not as gross as a rat but any dead animal is pretty yucky. I felt so bad for the bunnies but I didn't tell him he was bad b/c I read a book on the breed and it is their instinct to hunt. Evidentally they used to be bred to catch guess what? Yep.....RATS! So glad he hasn't done that yet!
Why does it always seem that those darn DH aren't around when there is actually a use for them?  Good Luck keeping your cat off the empty lot! Hope you don't get anymore surprises from her.

Well YIKES. It could have been worse it could have been alive. YIKES I hate rats and mice. In our old house we had a mouse problem one winter. These were brave mice to. Thaey would run around the living room while I was watching TV. Of course DH was NEVER home when they did it. We finnaly caught them all on Christmas Eve. Santa was good to us that year. We found the hole they got in through fixed it and never had another problem.
Your kitty just wanted to bring his mommy a present

Hi Janey,
Had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago except it was in my garage. I couldn't go near it either and made my hubby put it in a bag a throw it away. EEEEK! Rats are second on my hate list next to roaches.
Good thing you have such a brave son. And, yeah, I would keep the kitty in time out.

My cat did something similar last week with a bird....I came downstairs to the kitchen and I saw feathers all over the place and there she was in the corner playing with the poor dead thing.  It was very gross.
She did bring me a rat once as well which was equally nasty but luckily I'm a fan of rats (I used to have them as pets) so they don't freak me out.
I think giving your kitty a "time out" is a good decision...good luck

So sorry, Janey. I sympathize with you, because I'd have freaked out. Rats are the grossest things.
Your little kitty is a mouser! She was bringing you a present. I don't blame you for jailing her at nights now; I'd do the same thing. And aren't you lucky to have a young man there to protect you from dead rats. He deserves a night out with the boys, me thinks....
