Since I usually don't post on the weekends, I wanted to take a moment and remember all of those we lost on September 11, 2001. It has been three long and difficult years and my prayers are with the families of those who lost loved ones and those who still suffer today from what happened. My thoughts and prayers are also with our brave men and women in uniform who serve this country proudly everyday in Afghanistan, Iraq and all around the world.

I work 4 blocks from the trade center site and was working here on that beautiful September day three years ago. Each time I walk out of the Wall St. subway station I am reminded of what happened here three years ago. I pray I never have to see anything like what I saw that day again.

Thanks for listening everybody and God bless America.

Tommy than you for the reminder.. not that I needed one.. we're just glad my parent moved, thats what it took for dad to admit to post traumatic stress.. he was supposed to be in the towers that morning, and instead was in his office and watched it all out his office window a few blocks away (he had a clear view)... until he stopped working in manhattan he kept inisting he was fine...

That was an awful day for so many.. people who lost friends, loved ones.. or just didn't know due to the confusion.... and led to such a sad time for this nation (war, etc) that its hard day for many of us.. and this year it coincides with the Jewish holiday of Slichot, which starts off the high holidays, and the period of repentence and healing prayers...

Well put, Tommy. I couldn't have said it better.

I had just moved into a foreign country only hours before the attack. When I got the news on the radio, I sat there amongst all the moving boxes, in my new home, in total shock, and something came over me. I realized I had made a BIG mistake; what the heck was I doing in a foreign country when I belonged in the States!? I WANTED to be back home here, the worst kinda way. It wasn't long afterwards that we put the house on the market, sold it and returned home.

You BET -- God Bless America!

Thanks Tommy.

As the daughter of two military officers I struggle every day thanking God that both of my parents are retired and don't have to go overseas during this conflict, while feeling sorry for the families of all of the soldiers bravely serving our country. I have friends currently serving in Iraq, the youngest is only 20 and got married 3 weeks before she and her husband were both sent overseas. I miss them both and pray for their safety. 9/11 changed our country and now we must all deal with the consequences.

I can't believe how long ago it was. That was such a horrible day. My thoughts go out to all those who are working and fighting to try and prevent something similar happening again. And all those people who lost loved ones that day. It was so awful.

God bless everyone who hopes for peace.

Tommy,

Thank you for posting about this. As you know, I live in Manhattan, and I've been very aware all week of this anniversary day coming up. I've been sad all day thinking of all those people who died so horribly.

I saw the towers burning from my office window. A sight I will never ever ever forget. My first thought was "Oh my God, so many people are going to die." Thank God almost everyone on the floors below got out okay. That was a miracle.

But beautiful clear blue skies still make me nervous. Sirens still make me nervous, even three years later. I don't think I'll ever completely recover from what I saw and heard that day. What's more, I don't think I want to. I want that wound to never ever heal. I want to always mourn for those who died and for our lost innocence as a country.

Thanks again, Tommy, for your post.

how awful to have worked so close
we used to live in NJ (now in CA) and my husband worked on wall street too and so i know how i would have felt
we went to ground zero in 2002 and it was overwhelming, even a year later .. i can't imagine the terror of the day
what is happening there now ?? are they rebuilding yet ?
my cousin was in the bronx on his way to his job, he was late.. he usually goes to the twin towers every morning ... i was so happy when he called me back and i heard his voice !!
i wish all this war business was over..i won't get into how i feel about the Bush thing so i say so long and God bless

Neet, they are beginning to build there again. Its been a slow process as to where to put the memorial and where to build the new buildings. I am glad you decided to hold back on your political feelings. Not that I don't care about how you feel but I just don't think politics fit into the context of remembering 9/11.

Laura Sue, thanks for your kind words. I sometimes think as NYer's a lot of us have forgotten what had happened that day and the aftermath. One of the most remarkable things about what happened after the attacks is how we pulled together as a city. I can still remember waiting on the LIRR platofrm at Shea Stadium after a Mets game about 10 days after 9/11. Someone spontaneously started singing God Bless America. My girlfriend at the time and myself started singing along and pretty soon everyone was singing. I had never seen anything like it before. Unfortunately, I think many of us have to gone back to complacency and not caring about our fellow New Yorker. It shouldn't take a terrorist attack to bring us together.

Anyway, thanks to all of you for posting your thoughts and remembering those we lost that day.
