Since Sheri just got a new tattoo I was wondering who else on the boards has one/some and what they are/where they are?

I'll start.

I have a tribal butterfly on my right shoulder, the words "omnia mea mecum porto" across my lower back (it's latin and it means "all that is mine I carry with me), and a gothic cross on my right wrist.

I have a dolphin jumping through the moon on my ankle.
My husband has his boiler tech symbol from the Navy on his upper arm. People think it is a double hitter bong all the time
I have been thinking of getting a celtic cross but I think I will wait. I have enough pain right now lol

I have eight...

* a small tribal spiral sun on the back of my neck
* a large-ish bluebird on each side of my chest
* a large-ish stargazer lily on my left bicep
* a small-ish purple star on each wrist
* an Art Nouveau floral embroidery design on my right calf
* the word "of" on my left ankle, as part of the Skin project

... and my plans for more FAR outmeasure the thickness of my wallet.

I have one... and the only reason I went to get it in the 1st place was to cover a big scar on my left chest/breast area where I was stabbed. But, the guy said no because my scar tissue was too sensitive. So, I got it on the other side of the chest/breast. At least now when I look in the mirror I eyes tend to see the tattoo instead of the scar which was the whole point in the 1st place.

Mine is of a red heart and purple rose and in the background are angel wings (that would be my Grandfather, who I swear until this day was watching over me that awful night) Anyway..... I'll post a picture of it later if anyone wants to see it.

"of":

Art Nouveau:

The bluebirds... I swear my chest isn't THAT flat, it's just a funny camera angle. (Ever try taking a picture of your own chest?!)

The lily; it's so red & swollen because that was taken 5 minutes after the artist finished. He wanted a picture for his portfolio.

The stars are just... stars... hehe. About 2" across. The spiral I don't even have a picture of anymore; it was my first tattoo, a horrible experience, and really poorly done. I may have it reworked someday.

I for some reason REALLY like the OF one. I know it's plain but it's neat and looks great on your ankle. Gets you lots of questions though doesn't it.

My sister has two. ONe on her ankle of a lady bug and a shamrock on her hip. I believe it definitly is an addicting thing. They say that once you have one, you get two, three, four.

Every year I go to OC Maryland for vacation I get a Henna one around my ankle of a chain of some sort. I love it but am WAY too chicken to get a real one. Phobia issues...Hepatitis, fear of it getting infected and then I'd have to take an antibiotic and I can't take antibiotics. Would love the belly button ring too but again, fear of infection.

Yours look like they were done by a really great tattoo artist.

I have 2 on my back - one actually is closer to my a$$ - I wear thongs everyday - and I got it so that it would be right under the thong line on my cheek Obviously only my husband sees that one - it's the chinese symbol for strength, I got it after my dad and grandma were diagnosed with cancer and my other grandma died (all in a short time), it was very emotional for me.
My other one is a funky sun - with a moon in the middle. I love that one.

Yeah... anyone who notices the "of" asks about it, definitely. That's why I got it on my ankle; it's pretty easy to hide, if I don't feel like explaining! I love it, though. I'm thinking about getting other words tattooed on me, but nothing's really grabbed me yet.

I've been lucky and have had some really good artists work on me. After the first one was such an awful experience, I'm VERY picky about who I'll go to. If you ever get brave, I'll tell you ALL about how to find a good artist - LOL!

Are you Irish? (Or of Irish heritage, rather?) Just curious. My mother is mostly Scottish, my father is mostly Lebanese, and the two places I want to go before I die are Scotland and Lebanon.

Anyway, sounds like it would be GORGEOUS. I hope you do it someday, it sounds like it just belongs on you.

There is alot of Irish in my Genealogy. German also. I love to do Genealogy I have traced most of mine and husband trees. I have gotten as far back as 1500's on some of the lines and can't get past the 1800's on other's. It is just a hobby of mine.

Maybe one day I will get my tattoo. It will just have to wait awhile.

I find tattoos very sexy, the bluebirds are really nice. I would love for my wife to get a ring around her belly button and one on the small of her back. After reading the posts I never would have guessed that atomic rose had 8! I do not have one being married to a nurse who has removed many bad tattoos she would kill me. (That and I am really a wussy! IBS-D would flare up bad before the event!) Each year we go to a adult beach and she always gets a temporary one for her back which I love. She has drawn a nice one on my arm. Sharpie is a great way to see if you want it or not! I met a girl in SF, CA who had her whole back done of an eagle. It was neat. Great topic, D

Heh. Nobody ever guesses I have 8!

Want to know something funny? I actually feel BETTER, health-wise, when I'm getting tattooed than any other time. I'm sure it's because it's become such a good experience for me that it's a positive adrenaline/endorphin thing... I try to get work done early in the day, so I can ride that "high" for the rest of the day.

Sharpie IS a good way to try out a tattoo! I used to doodle on myself all the time. When I realized I liked the way I looked with doodles better than without, I knew it was time to get more tattoos.

Casey- I know what you mean by feeling better IBS-wise while getting one done. I was so nervous in the morning that my IBS was flaring up for the first time in a while, but as soon as I went under the needle I was concentrating so hard on sitting still and breathing normally that the time just flew by and I felt great.
I found myself drifting off in the chair thinking of my next one...than I said to myself- "Sheri, wait awhile to make sure you don't regret this one before you do it again!"
Maybe I will get a piercing for my birthday...
and 8 tattoos! I don't know where you found room for them all!

true, but there is a double issue- the other is that it costs money we don't have these days, especially if we are going to try to sell the house and move real soon.

Yeah, yeah... not surprisingly, I'm pierced too. LOL! Actually, I took out most of my piercings at this point - I have a lot of trouble healing them, compared to tattoos - so all I have besides my ears is a pierced nose. I have gauged piercings in my ears, though, which is a little unusual.

I wasn't sure I even wanted to admit that, but what the heck.

Just to one up everybody~ I got my first piercing in '88 in my navel. By '89 I had it triple pierced. I was vacationing in europe at the time ('88), and read the caption under a picture in a paris magazine... "kids, don't do this at home!" I went back to america and imediately did. By spring 89 a skinhead at my school had copied me... we were the only kids with one. His was in his navel too. My orig piercing was in until 92 when you could buy docs at nordstroms by then. I took mine out then.

Back when I was cool--

I don't know how I missed this post... sorry about that!

If you're thinking about emailing Shelley, I'd do it really soon... I'm not sure, but I've heard through the grapevine that the project is just about closed to new applicants. She had a period of time where she couldn't work on it, due to a repetitive stress injury in her arm (she couldn't type to answer email), and she got REALLY backed up... in those 6 months or so, she got several thousand emails. LOL!

None of us have any idea what the story is about. That's the catch. You had to be willing to participate, even knowing that the story could turn out to be something really awful, hehe.

Thanks!

I love piercings!
Don't have any myself, though , except for ears.
I want to get a piercing done, but don't know what to get. I absoloutey love facial piercings, but can't get them cause I work in an office.
So, I may get my bellybutton pierced this fall, but that is kind of getting redundant at this point, everyone has it done between the ages of 15-45.
Any other ideas for inconspicous unusual peircings, anyone?
Oh, and no "private" ones... I ain't that wild!

What is the "triple navel piercing" that you are talking about? It may be kind of like what I am looking for... (see my above post)
I had some kind of idea of getting two barbells in the top of my bellybutton, kind of hard to explain, but I am not sure if it is possible. Dont know too much about piercing yet, so I am not too sure of what CAN be done. Maybe I will look online for a website with pictures or something.

I had a ring in the top, and 2 barbells, one on each side. The whole thing was beautiful, 18-gauge. This is before barbells were commercially available, and they were not screws. I had an artist in baltimore I found by asking around tattoo parlors make them for me. He was a welder too.

Funny memory, when I went to pick them up at his place, they were in the autoclave, and he had had a long night, and I remember the sight of him, coming down the stairs, black spikey hair, with magic marker drawings all over him. His girlfriend, another local artist, had spent the night decorating him. I was this impressionable 18 year old and thot he was beeeeutiful.

I'm always surprised piercings caught on as they have. My younger brother has many, many piercings and tats... Gen X hit him like a ton of bricks.

i always see your skin project link, and always think to check it out and then forget.
Well, I checked it out today... that is so interesting! I immediately sent Shelley and email- hopefully I will be selected, but from your last post and the few amount of participants that she actually needs, it is probably a slim chance.
Oh, well, anything is worth a try!
Wish me luck!

Hehe... this is true. I just get funny about mentioning it around people if I'm not sure how they're react... it's really common up here, and most people don't even notice them, but I know that isn't the case everywhere.

"Gauged" is kind of misnomer, anyway, since I'm well out of the gauges. Mine are at 5/8".

You're right - anything is worth a try! You never know - I'm sure that a lot of her backlog of email was people writing her and asking when the project was starting up again, so... Good luck!!

I just sent her an email last night...it sounds very interesting but I'm really wary about putting something permanently on my body without knowing what exactly it is I'm "endorsing" ....

I mean...judging by Shelley's work I'm pretty sure it's not going to be anything really terrible....but I'd still like to know a little more about it before I decide to alter my body permanently for it....you know?? Maybe I'm just being weird.....

I lost my first and only tat on a bike-- it came off in '89 when I dropped my 600 ninja in Idaho. A circle K pin-tattoo on my right ankle. Took my boot off too. I loved those boots. Been riding bikes since high school... my first was a honda rebel 450. My favorite bike of them all.

Then I slowed down, grew my hair, and got a job. Theeeee eeeend.

I have had my belly button pierced since 1996. I also have my left nipple pierced and my tongue. (never underestimate the power of a tongue bar!) My ears are pierced but i can't wear earrings on duty (I'm a cop), so I stick to "hideable" piercings....
