I have been in terrible pain for 3 days. The doctor put me on fiber supplements but to no avail. I usually have ibs-d, but have been constipated for a week. I wondered if anyone would know if it were okay to take a mild laxative since the fiber doesnt work.
I could really use some help!!!

Hi

I'm D so I don't have any direct experience of laxatives. However I do know that other C people on this board use Miralax. It's a osmotic laxative rather than a irritant laxative which apparently makes it safer as it doesn't cause spasms in the colon. Rather it increases the amount of water in the colon.

In terms of diet are you following eating for IBS? A fibre supplement is only part of the solution and will need some time to work it's magic.

On that note as well what supplement are you using and did you start on a small dose. Some SFS are known for causing gass and starting off on too large a dose can cause bloating. There's a sticky at the top of the eating for ibs page about using SFS.
