Beginner runner question

Hey guys!
I am a very beginner runner. I am just starting off, I try to run a few minutes straight then walk, then run some more and then walk. I repeat the cycle for as long as I can. Today though, I ran a bit harder than usual, and its quite hot outside. As soon as I was done, my stomach started to cramp up and in the bathroom I went with "d". Is this common? If so is there anything I can do to prevent it? I really want to lose around 40 pounds. Thanks guys!!
