Last spring before I knew I had IBS, I got high blood pressure and irregular heartbeat. I took Diovan and it helps control my blood pressure. Later in Sept, my bowel started to get worst every week. I went to see digestive health center and they said I have IBS-A.
I started my own experiment with peppermint oil, Digestive Advantage, benefiber, etc. I felt burping I thought it was from DA. One day I forgot to take blood pressure medicine and took it. I felt burping over and over. The next day I got diahrrea. I stopped taking Diovan. It went well. I still have painful BM every week (sometime three days in a row with loose stools) because I ate my favorite foods like pizza. I rarely eat veggies and fruits. Im naughty!
Now I started to have irregular heartbeat and soon I will need to take blood pressure medicine. Does anyone have experience taking BP meds?
It's pretty frustrating when taking med that might cause gas or diahrrea.

I'm certainly not a medical professional, but I've had so much crap wrong over the years, I feel like I could have earned my M.D.! However, I was first diagnosed with hypertension in 1988 and they started me out on beta blockers - BAD! Later changed me to calcium channel blockers and now for probably the last 10 years I have been on an ACE inhibitor: Accupril - which works well for me. Unfortunately I still deal with my "type A personality" demons - which tend to make me more reactive than proactive, so my BP still goes up and down - but, as I said it is usually emotionally induced. The only side affect I have noticed with the Accupril is it adds to my dry mouth problem and it can cause a slight cough. BUT - there are many new ACE inhibitors out there and I think, from my research, they are the best kind. Having said that, I am reminded that many are for multiple purposes - i.e. ACE inhibitors are also prescribed for congestive heart failure too.... So, do your research as to the types -two of my favorite websites for information is www.webmd.com or www.mayoclinic.com... just type in "hypertension" and search all the prescribed meds.... Then you'll be informed and ready to talk to your doctor again. And, once you start on BP meds, you do not want to abruptly stop them. I had to be weaned off the beta blocker to go on the calcium channel blocker and then the same to go on Accupril. Hope this helps a little....
