I have IBs-D and just recently been diagnsed with divertitulous. The dr. perscribed questran, twice a day, along with fiber from Heathers IBs and bentyl. Startd the questran last Sat. and still having some problems with diaharea. I upped my fiber so hopefully that will make a difference.
I am hoping to start feeling better soon. This IBs stuff is for the birds.
good to meet you all and will be arund as much as I can

Welcome to the boards. There is a wealth of information to research on this site. I'm always learning something new from here and there are lots of supportive people on the boards. Yup, you're right, this IBS stuff is for the birds. What's that saying? Birds of a feather flock together.. lol...
Welcome.. Welcome..

Thanks so much for the welcome.
glad to be here
I keep thinking this IBS is for the birds, but the birds don't want it either. LOL
I had my colonostopy a wk. ago. The prep was horrible. b the time I went to the hospital the next morning, I was os tire and so weak, I said I don't think I can do any more of this, and my sister said, Just a few more hours. And the colonostopy was a snap
I am sorry they found diverticulous but in a way I am glad they did, as now I have a name for what else is wrong with me. Does that make sense
Diverticulous is different than diverticilis. Diverticulous is pockets in the large intestine which bulge out like a tire, but they do not get infcted. The thing about it is once you have it you will always have it
It is scary, this colon thing, as my brother in law had a perferated colon last June, and He was in intesntive care for 9 wk. My sister stayed with us and I went with her everyday to the hospital and in August we lost him anyway. He was only 61, so this is scary to me. So scary.
Good to be here and thanks for the welcome.
I get to writing and forget when to stop. LOl

I also was diagnosed with diverticulosis, in addition to all the other things mentioned and it is scary... My mind is definitely a dangerous thing! LOL B/c when I start cramping or bleeding (from my hem.) - I worry about diverticulitis. I think "worry" is the keyword. All the scientific reports say it's not just your brain and serotonin/it's also in your "gut", i.e.stress/worry = IBS attack. Like you, I had a friend with an perforated bowel and it is a miracle she lived + I have a friend with diverticulitis. I'm trying to change my "stinkin' thinkin'" to remember, just because it was them, it's not me and not to panic with the symptoms. I used to have primarily IBS-D, but now it's more "C" and I think I'd go back to the "D"... these cramps can last for days and days... BUT, I did find eating Heather's diet of basically SF helps TREMENDOUSLY for the "D" - I've lived on bagels, applesauce and bananas and it worked!
You will get better... I'll be praying...

Thanks for replying to my post. Appreciae it so much
Yes, I know lots of this stuff is from stress and worry. I try my best not to but how in the heck can you do that, and still live life
Today I had to go to a funeral, and believe me, this hit me this mrning. I do not handle stres well.
I am so careful what i at, and I too am so cncerned this will turn into diverticulitis. the dr. put me on a high fiber diet. That is hard for me as there ae many foods I can not eat
The nurse did tell my you never know when diverticulous might hit you with an attack.
I just try eating good, and hopefully that will help
Can you tell me what Heather's diet of SF is
thanks for the prayers. I certainly will be praying for you too,a nd we will get through this
I wish I culd handle stress better

For starters, go to Heather's home page and look for her "cheat sheet" - it's a quick overview of good/bad foods... especially for diarrhea...
I know what you mean about stress, my job is stressful, but I can't afford to quit - my doctor asks if I'm depressed and I tell him - "only when I'm sick":-) I feel I have to be there for everyone and never can say no to my family- then my mind gets the "what ifs"...I know God is bigger than IBS, stress or anything else, I've just got to see it real in my life - a work in progress.
Blessings & Prayers... We will make it!!!

I just wanted to tell you to be careful with Bentyl. If you start having urinary problems or feeling like you are getting a bladder infection, you might ask to be changed to Symax. It's newer and doesn't have some of the side effects that Bentyl does.
