Dinner
1/2 Sandwich from Panera bread: smoked turkey, leaf of lettuce and tomato - plain, chips (ingred: 100% safflower oil, potatoes), lemonade

Snack later: orange jello

Overall I had some abdominal pain. Bedtime I was passing gas like crazy. It was okay though, not the painful gas pains.

I haven't been drinking the iced tea. It's hard to judge right now if that's helping or not, because I'm still on the rebound from Saturday night dinner. My blood sugar level in the mornings still seem to be high for me, 130-148.

Using up the last of my Poland Spring bottled water. I did buy 2 gallons of distilled water to start using.

Wednesday 6/25
Breakfast: instant reg oatmeal, 1/2 tsp acacia, 2 tsp brown sugar.

I'm thinking I really need the protein to keep my energy sustained. Tummy is feeling tightness this morning, uncomfortable, but not unmanageable.

Lunch: other half of turkey sandwich, water, pretzels
Dinner: tuna sandwich - albacore, 2 tsp olive oil, fresh squeezed juice of 1/2 lemon, sea salt on french bread. diet 7-up only few sips.

Exercise: 20 minutes yoga for IBS

Tonight I'm more gassy than I was during the day. Some bloating. Finished reading "Intensity" by Dean Koontz, last night, so I'm looking for a new book to read.
oh yeah, not that I'm doing a lot of exercising, what little I've done makes my legs restless at night, so I'm constantly tossing and turning in bed. Sometimes I can get comfortable to fall back to sleep when I put heating pad on, not always though.

Thursday 6/26
Breakfast: oatmeal, acacia (1/2 tsp), brown sugar
Snack: pretzels
Lunch: grilled boneless/skinless chicken breast on french bread, plain (boy was this dry), gingerale (10 oz. sipped on rest of day).
Dinner: eggplant parm sub (with red sauce and cheese), diet 7up.

Notes for today:
Bloated and gassy after dinner, feels like I need BM but can't go.. my guess I'll get D before bedtime.. It's not bad, just annoyance.

Went to my first endocrine doctor appointment today. I really liked this guy. He was more thorough than my general doc. It's official, I have diabetes type 2. My gp kept giving me conflicting answers: yes you have it/no don't worry about it, just lose weight. Game plan is to prevent becoming insulin dependent. Being officially diagnosed with diabetes is hard for me because my mom was diabetic and died in 2002 from heart attack. Not that I think it's a death sentence, it's more of a constant reminder of the struggles my mom endured and how much I miss her every single day. I have to make appointment with dietician for next week. I'm going to take Heather's book and information with me. I made sure this doctor was well aware of my struggles with IBS/IBD.

Sorry for such a long post today. My mind is spinning like a whirlwind tonight. Thanks for listening.
Peace.

Hey sorry to hear about your mom.I don't know what I'd do without mine.
Hope your appointment goes well.

How are you feeling in general?
Are you having pretty good days or still bad everyday?

So whats the plan for diet? Diabetes and IBS hard to combine?
How much are you looking to lose as far as weight?
Sorry for all the questions
Hope you have a good day tomorrow!
As Dori likes to say "Just keep swimming!"(yes I watch WAY too many kids shows!)

See ya!!!

Thank you dragonfly.
I've been feeling pretty good lately. Some good days inbetween the bad. I may have to stay away from plain pasta, white potatoes, rice, etc.. the real starchy stuff. Which is what I've been eating lately and it's been agreeing with me better. I'm very interested to see what the dietician will recommend when I go see her next week. In the meantime, I'm going to keep eating Heather's way because that is what works for my tummy. As for pounds to lose, I am about 100 pounds over the recommended weight for my height and build. I want to feel good and healthy, get down to size 12/13. Whatever pounds that registers at, I'll take it! Initially though I think it will be all about losing 5 to 10 pounds a month. I'm guessing it will equal out to be 70-80 pounds.

Don't think I've ever watched a full episode of Dori... She looks really cute though. I'll swim my heart out..!

It can be real hard to lose weight huh.
I haven't had a huge problem with my weight(total denial)
After my last baby I was about 40 pounds more than I would like.I don't know what you are supposed to weigh but thats what I'd be happy to lose.Unfortunately it took five years and a bout of gallbladder attacks to actually help me lose 25 pounds.I didn't eat anything hardly for two months and actually nothing for one week while in the hospital. It's nice to see my pants looser and now I need to go shopping(yuck!)
But it's been the push to help me lose more.
I have found that I am loosing more weight with this diet.Mostly because I don't eat chips pop, icecream, chocolate, french fries etc.Ya all the good stuff!
The one thing I really noticed working was to cut out all snacks after supper. We would sit and watch tv and eat a bag of chips, drink a couple glasses of pop, maybe some chocolate.
This has helped me drop a few more pounds and made me feel better all around.(as much as I hate it!!)I do sneak in the odd handful of chips during the day or a half glass of pop once a week.
Don't focus on the pounds though.Just see how your pants fit and if your clothes are getting looser.Otherwise you will drive yourself crazy!!
Exercise is totally OUT of my picture.Forget it!But if you do start exercising or already do, take it slow. Up your minutes say every week.
When I was trying to lose weight with my first I started doing crunches and I could only do FIVE! without killing myself. But by the end of two weeks of doing five I could add it to ten and I noticed a differance just in the two weeks.(then I found out I was preggo so I quit!Haven't been back since.
My hubby and I had a contest about two months ago to see who could do the most crunches (he is 125 pounds soaking wet!)Well I won but boy did I pay for that!A week of sore tummy!!!So don't push it too far!
Good luck hope you win!
I'm cheering ya on sister!!!!

Thanks for being so open about your life. Finally, I hope I've found someone that may help me too...IBS since 12, (now a "young":-) 58)... reprieve for about 10 years, then IBS + generalized anxiety +PTSD...I've always worked, even through all this, but the last few years have been really bad. Like everyone else it's diarrhea and cramps all one day, then constipation the next day - I think the "c" is the worst... Evidently I have hemorrhoids and even though I know that's most probably what causes it, when I have blood with a BM, it scares me. I had an endoscopy & colonoscopy about 4 yrs ago: IBS, diverticulosis, gastritis, GERD, esophogitis...polyps that dissolved upon touch, so I'm blessed. BUT... all this to say, that when you mentioned "blood", I didn't feel so alone in this world - thank you... Does this happen often with you? I don't know what to eat anymore - when I follow Heather's diet, it's wonderful for the "D", but then it sometimes causes the "C" and then here comes the "H" and blood!:-) My dr. mentioned taking miralax, but don't want to take anything else unless I absolutely have to. Any advice would be most welcomed... And, you are right - God and will make a way! (And, I've met Don Moen:-) - many years ago... Looking forward to hearing from anyone who can tell me this is not abnormal. Thanks!

Hi GaGa!
I've been trying to pay attention to when I have lots of blood in my BM and when it's a tiny bit. Sometimes it seems like I have excessive blood after I've eaten a big meal, stuffed myself. Then again last weekend I ate a small piece of steak, approx 1 cup of mashed potatoes, and 1/2 cup whole kernel corn. And forget it, 15 minutes later I'm in bathroom doubled-over in pain, D pretty bad with blood, nausea, sweating, the whole nine-yards...So a "regular" portioned meal still gave me bloody BM.
Usually if I'm constipated, I can feel the tearing of my "H" and know the blood is from that.

I am trying to find a good balance in Heather's EFI diet and acacia so I'll remain more consistent with BMs.

You are certainly not alone here. The Miralax is a laxative, so I'm not sure why your dr would recommend that if you're struggling with D. Have you tried the acacia? I truly think it's helping me. I'm not up to the full dosage yet. Do you keep a food journal?
Be good to yourself..

Hi, Valerie -
Thanks for the response. You're sooooo right about meals and portion sizes. My therapist for the CFIDS/Fibro. told me I need to balance my strength/energy, but "no" - when I feel good, I go until I hit a brick wall! Same true with IBS... when I feel good and haven't eaten, I try to eat it all at one time and then have "C" for a couple of days, then it turns into "D". All the breads and pasta- which I love seem to cause "C"... Throw a good dose of anxiety and the "what ifs" into it and I'm a mess - except for trusting God to make me well.. It's so hard when people just don't understand.
Thanks, again....

HI, I love pretzels. Great for snacking and the safe way. I gave up all dairy, corn, salads, red meats, eggs. Am using soy and rice milk, soy cheese and soy ice creams. Lots of rice. Also had to give up cafeine. Use herbal teas. This seems to be working along with taking fibercon and tummy powder. I am able to go out now and shop, attend church, etc. When I go off the diet i am back to D constantly.
Sometimes we just have to give up all good stuff to feel good. Hang in there.
