Hi,
it's the new girl again. I'm in a lot of pain and really could do with some support- I had a meal which I thought was 'safe' the other night - it had beans, fish, sweet potatoes, butternut squash and kale in it but my guts have been upset terribly since - are beans a problem for some people? has anyone else had a bad reaction from a low fat meal and found out why?

Hi saraUK,

A tip - you will probably get more replies if you post this kind of question on the Eating For IBS Diet board.

Your meal is certainly OK low fat wise, but there are other things to consider when eating for IBS. If you haven't already done so, I suggest you read all the information on the rest of the website, as balancing soluble fibre and insoluble fibre is a big part of managing your diet.

I am IBS-C, pain predominant, and I would find that eating beans and kale (both insoluble fibre - beans are gassy and kale is quite stringy) in the same meal quite difficult. I would certainly need to eat the sweet potatoes and squash first(soluble fibre) to buffer the insoluble fibre. Also, portion size is important - I need to keep it small (I eat frequently). Hope that helps.

thank you for your help- I didn't realise I was posting in the wrong area!
thanks for advice, will have to read up more I think as I'm struggling with the soluble/insoluble- especially as it involves thinking so carefully about every meal.
thanks again
