I've had IBS for over 10 years now. I was just recently diagnosed with it over a year ago. There was a wonder drug that came out called zelnorm and my doctor put me on it. It was like a miracle for me...... No pains no constipation, but then the fda pulled the drug as they found it was causing harm to some people. Back to square one. I've been on a vegetarian diet and tried many other kinds of remedies. I finally decided to try self help and I researched IBS, because all the doctors and specialists ever want to do is put me on a laxative...... NO that does not help the problem. For anyone who is interested I have my self on a plan now it seems to be maintaining my problem. I walk 4-5 times a week at least 1-2 hours each walk I am taking flora smart probiotic for intestinal health and I found an IBS support formual from the health food store by renew life. I am always looking to see what works for others with ibs as it is a thin line between normal and not for myself with this ibs battle.

Ain't that the truth? I follow Heather's diet and have incorporated a few other things in to my life and I have been stable with only a few setbacks for the last couple years.
I use: -Heather's diet -L-Glutamine -Hypnotherapy -Regular exercise and adequate sleep & water -Birth Control (works wonders for me but it can vary from person to person).
And that's it! That's what works for me. This board doesn't get much traffic. The Diet and Living Room boards have a lot more activity and you'll get a lot more answers in those.

Birth control helps your IBS? I am on the pill and am trying to not have any periods at all anymore because for the week during and after mine I am miserable. So I have 2 good weeks and 2 bad weeks every month. I have been taking it nonstop since I discovered that that helps. I am talking to my Gyno about that today to see if that is okay or if I need to switch to the kind where you only have a few a year. I'm just worried about switching birth control. Can't that screw with IBS?

I hear ya! When I have my period, in one day I can go from not going at all in the morning and being uncomfortable to not being able to stay out of the bathroom in the afternoon, even if I eat something bland like plain rice! It sucks! My cousin was put on Seasonal, but she has IBS-D with Crohn's. I was thinking of asking her how she's doing, but I'm concerned about switching pills too.

JUst curious...when you went on the prozac, how long did you try it and get d before stopping taking it? Because when I started an SSRI, I got vicious d too (and vomiting/night sweats, etc.) but then it passed after I stuck with it for about 10 days. (I'm IBS D) It often takes a person's body awhile to adjust.

Then IBS-A, Now a transformed slightly C
