I'm heading to New York this week for the first time. I was so thrilled. I have been stable for awhile so I had myself confident of traveling and trying to find bathrooms.Of course today I had a horrible flare up and now I'm totally freaked out. Is there anyone who lives in or has visited NY that has suggestions for where to find bathrooms and safe places to eat. Thanks so Much!

Why don't you try posting this question on the Living Room message board. It usually sees more traffic.

If you do a search in the last 6 months for "Charmin" on the Eating for IBS Board, you will find a thread about how I survived a day trip to NYC in the winter. "Charmin" is easy to find and it is mentioned b/c there is (or at least was) a restroom in Times Square sponsored by them. I ate at Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory which I wouldn't say was really IBS friendly...it was more for my son. Maybe someone else can help you there. Pre-Heather, I have eaten at ESPN Zone (also near Times Square) and ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. When I am out galavanting that is my safe order...and if I can get some rice on the side I'll ask for that too (I was a big D so I didn't care if I ate only all SF just to survive a day out). Take along some crackers like graham crackers that you know are safe for you to keep something in your belly all day. Bathrooms really are sort of "all around" but I guess it depends on how urgently you have to go...I always felt like I'd never be able to hold it but now that I'm more stable, I feel like I have enough control to get there in time.

DON'T WORRY ABOUT YOUR RECENT ATTACK...YOU WANT TO MAINTAIN YOUR CONFIDENCE! I know it is so hard and nerve-racking, but remember that as long as you eat safely for a few days before, take whatever supplements/meds. you typically take, and maybe take some preventative immodium (if you are d), you will be fine. Start now with making sure everything you eat is safe and also try yoga or some sort of calming activity to keep your stress at bay. Have you done hypno? I just completed the 100 days and I do think that it helped. I may need to do it again at some point but I would definitely recommend it. It certainly can't hurt.

Well, good luck and enjoy your trip. You can do it. Just think of how good you will feel when you return and can say that you successfully accomplished a big feat like that.
