Hi,
I'm new to this site. I have had IBS since the end of Feb. and learning to live with it. This week has been a tough week as I have followed my diet but I still have been sick with IBS all week in fact missing work one day so I just wanted to share how like everybody else I get sick of IBS.
How do you handle your stress level with IBS? I have a big birthday party at my house the end of April I'm getting ready for and I think the stress is bothering my IBS.
Amy

Hi and welcome. I am not new to the site but I am new to posting. I have actually had IBS my whole life and didn't even know what it was until about a year and a half ago. I feel the same way, sick of IBS for sure. But now that you know you have it, you really have to learn how to cope with it and make your life more enjoyable. I am glad you found this site because if you truly follow the suggestions made by Heather on here, your life will change, no doubt about it. As for stress, it all depends because sometimes I get stressed out over things that are good as well. There are certain things that will tone your stress levels down but I do not know of anything that will completely get rid of it depending on your personality as well. I am a high strung person and I have anxiety so I have tried it all. I wouldn't want to recommend valium but I have resorted to that when my stress was overwhelming and disabling. I practice yoga and found that meditation will help you overall when you are stressed to focus on your center of peace. Sipping on Heather's Tummy Teas, I combine the loose peppermint with loose fennel and make it strong will some honey really helps me ease the tension. All of these suggestions are on this site though. As you can see I also posted something about the use of medical marijuana but that is a whole different topic, but hey that is something that works for me and I am trying to get that to get approved. I guess it is alot about focusing your energy on positive things for your party and to realize that your nerves that are upsetting your stomach are postive nerves and not to stress yourself out more than you need to. I don't know if this all makes sense to you but different things work for different people. I have relied on anti-anxiety meds for awhile but I would like to get away from them. Kava kava helps and once in awhile it is not bad to take. Okay well hope this helped.

Try posting on the "eating for IBS board"..you'll get more responses. When I found this site, I was super frustrated too and felt defeated by my IBS. Read all you can on this site and/or get Heather's books. They are worth your time and energy...not to sound like a commercial...but you really will learn so much and get your ibs under control. Read about all the triggers and start some kind of soluble fiber supplement (read about it on left)...acacia is the best but if you don't want to buy Heather's products b/c you're not sure, try some over the counter stuff first and you'll see that the sf does help (fibercon helped me at first with my d...but the acacia helps so much better). For anxiety, things to consider are: excercise, particularly yoga, hypno (listed here), anti-anxiety meds (I was apprehensive at first but glad now that I took the plunge), and getting lots of sleep. Welcome and hope you start to feel better soon.
