Is it possible to do exercises to tone your body without getting your heart rate up or exerting yourself? or is that like asking if you can take a shower without getting wet?

I'm responding with only my novice personal opinion...I am no fitness expert. I just imagine that your heart rate would go up at least a little b/c apparently we burn more calories by just standing up versus sitting, brushing our teeth versus standing still...see where I'm going? Do you WANT to keep your heart rate down? It seems like the amount it goes up would depend on the way you are toning. For example, lying on the floor doing leg lifts probably exerts less effort than doing squats. HTH

I would also say no. Is there a particular reason you're wondering?

Well you do have to put some effort into getting toned, but you don't need to be sweating and breathing heavy as in an aerobic exercise.

If you're trying to tone up but not lose weight then doing a full body weight training regime will work. I did it for a few years and was pretty toned. I worked out 5 days a week, working out one body part at a time (so you don't work out a body part more than once a week). It would help if you could set up a fitness regime with a personal trainer, or join a body toning/sculpting class.

If you do have some extra weight on, then you can still tone but you may not see very good results without doing some added aerobic exercise.

Hope that answers your question..

You could try things like yoga and pilates. You won't see results as fast, but it tends to be "easier" than weight training.
