Everytime I travel I struggle with my IBS. No matter how "good" I am I suffer for at least a week when I return home. I am going out of town for work later this week and would really appreciate any help anyone has to offer that may keep me from curling up in a ball on my couch in pain when I return home.

Two big words of advice - plan and relax.

First of all, make plans ahead of time, whenever possible, so you can be sure to have safe foods available to you. Pack some safe snacks so you don't have to worry about what you will eat. Try things like pretzels, graham crackers, minute rice, French bread, etc. that could easily be eaten in your room or prepared with only a microwave. You might also want to scope out nearby restaurants and call ahead to see if they have food you will be able to eat. If you have to go somewhere that is not IBS friendly, make alternate arrangements to eat before or after you go to dinner. You could also do a quick internet search to find the nearest grocery store or HFS in case you need to run out to get something there like soy burgers, soup, or another easy meal you could eat in your room.

Second, relax. Anxiety is just as big of a trigger as the most unsafe food. I can make myself sick in a matter of minutes just by allowing myself to get too anxious about something. Making the choice to relax and not focus on the "what ifs" will greatly help reduce your anxiety level.

Hope you have a great trip!
