Can you really lose weight on the IBS eating plan?

I was interested to know if people here really do lose weight on the eating plan for IBS. Everything I read says you have to cut starch and sweets. Sweets I understand, but those of us with IBS, according to the eating plan, need the carbs that are considered starchy. Thanks.

To be honest, I lost a whole lotta weight unintentionally on the diet. Some people gain, some people lose.
I lost 25-20 pounds within two months, because I was ill and could barely eat anything!

i also lost weight when i started this diet. about ten lbs, i think. totally without trying. just having to be careful, having to cut out fatty foods and large portions.

I lost 20 lbs in 2 months, due to being sick. HOWEVER I kept about 12lbs of it off and have done for the last 18months.
The whole thing with the IBS diet is that it's high carb but it can really work well as it is low fat. No fatty red meat or dairy, lots of safe fruit, juices and smoothies, safe veggies. If you are trying to lose weight stay away from the safe sugary treats though.
You can still have your starchy things like rice and pasta as well when dieting, the key is, like Jaime said, to watch your portion sizes.

--because i know this is different from what other people are saying - i lost weight not from being sick, but just from being on this diet. i was never sick enough with ibs to start losing weight, but when i started following this diet, i lost about 10 lbs.
