myself jimmy.i wud like to tell mine story abt ibs.i hav been suffering from it 8 months.i wud like to know that medicines like paroxetine work for everybody?i am related to health field.so i know about medicineslike ssris. i hav been recognized recently with ibs.actually it started 8 months ago when i suddenly felt somewhat allergy like symptoms to food i ate.i stayed away from my home during that period,so i have to ate food from hostel mess.after eating ,in middle of eating ,ifelt somewhat feeling nausea and somewhat spasm of intestines.but not pain as such.there after,i hav to leave food in between.the spasm like feeling wud go after2 hrs.then again same thing in night.and then constipation on next day.cycle remained same 4 month.then i changed food from other place.but it showed same sighns after week of starting. then i noticed ,i was irritable even to water i used during that period. then i came to home.here i find relief .water here i find soothing for me.then here also, upper gi complaints started like of dyspepsia.i hav been suffering fom depression also.so i thought that it was due to depression.i used to take fluoxetine year before this happened.but i was casual abt this i did not take fluoxetine seriously.so now, after dr confirmed ibs.he asked me to take any ssri.i took escitalopram, but it caused me so distress.so i hav to leave it.it caused mt stomach like acork bottle pain with almost not able topass flatus. i then used paroxetine, but it did not help either.it didnot cause symptoms like escitalopram, but afeeling of constipation always occured next day.in contrast to this before this syndrome,i never expierenced constipation.so all ssris didnot help me.also i tried fluoxetine ,but it didnot relieve my symptoms.it aggravated symptoms.before this ibs occured,i used to take fluoxetine without any problem for my depression.i used it 4 2 months almost six months before this syndrome hppned. anyway now i am taking mirtazapine for my depression, because i think depression is rootcause of myibs.now i feel relived of my upper git symptoms of dyspepsia.but still i cant eat any food away from my home.it causes me severe spasm without able even to pass flatus.my query is that what should i take for removing my ibs, when SSRI like paroxetine and fluoxetin e are not working.is mirtazapine helpful for ibs, although i am not having any benefit fromit except use in depression.i hav also tried tegaserod, but it helped me only for 2 weeks, there after,it stopped working forme.pls help me

Hi, Jimmy. Unfortunately, depression and IBS are often found together. I have Bipolar Disorder, OCD and IBS. I found Effexor was excellent for my IBS, but didn't really help my depression. I strongly recommend that you talk to the Doc to get on another SSRI that may be more effective. Give it AT LEAST 12 weeks to work. I'm not kidding. Effexor took more than that for me. Once you are less depressed, you are much more likely able to cope with the IBS. In the meantime, try Heather's diet. Read through all the guidelines carefully and follow them. Did you have all the tests for a proper IBS diagnosis? If not, get them done.
