Met with a personal trainer

It was only $20 to have a trainer make a full workout plan for me. It was money well spent.

Things that I was doing wrong: I wasn't challenging myself enough with weights. I was only doping 3-5 lbs with free weights and she watched me do them and saw how super easy it was. She said it should be a bit more difficult and told me to go to 8-10lb weights.

She also surprised me by saying that more than 30 mins of cardio isn't going to do much more. She said to ALWAYS start my routine with weights first and then cardio. I was doing it the other way around!

She told me to do weight training 2-3 times a week and cardio 3-5 times a week.

I am **HOPING** that with this new fitness plan I'll FINALLY be able to lose that 10-15 lbs that I need.

Oh ya, my body fat % is sky high!!! It's at 29%. YIKES!! It needs to come down to closer to 23%.

Sounds like such a great deal! I'll be looking around for doing that too.

I'm curious why she said to do weights first, then cardio? I always do cardio to warm up, get my muscles loose and literally get my body warm enough so I'm not shivering (it's cold in my gym).

Goodluck with the new fitness plan!

The advantage to doing cardio last is that you burn off the lactic acid that builds up from resistance training

Ah that makes sense! Hmm, what if I did a quick warm up first (5-10 mins) and then a fuller cardio at the end? I just always feel so stiff and cold at the start, even wearing long sleeves/pants.
Thanks for the info,
Kat

Yes she said to do the weights first as you keep burning fat from the weights long after you've stopped.

Great work Tina. I'm about to join a new gym and they give a free assessment and workout programme which I intend to take advantage of. I'll post my progress too.

Ok I will!

I did my first routine yesterday and it took an hour and a half (including 30 mins of cardio). I feel it today in my chest, arms and legs. But it's a good feeling because hopefully some muscles will pop up. And hopefully it will help me slim down!
