Hopefully, I won't be up & famished at 3 a.m. Maybe it's just me getting a head start on breakfast? I usually sleep through the a.m. and don't get food until after noon.

Not that it matters!

1 c. egg white omelette
with spinach/herb puree

homemade organic broccoli soup (pureed)
greens
topped with lots of scalloped zucchini sprinkled with rice parmesan cheese
& roasted 1/2 red pepper, matchstick carrots
lowfat Renee's Ravin' Raspberry vinagrette ***really yummy & safe***

spring mix
topped with lots of cremini mushrooms
other 1/2 of roasted red pepper
chives, rice vinegar
& Newman's Own lowfat Sesame Thai Vinaigrette (1.5 g fat/2 tbsp.) ***really yummy & really safe!***

asparagus "bisque" (just asparagus steamed & pureed in organic veg. stock), topped with fresh dill
& 2/3 c. organic chicken breast

Tic tacs
Cinnamon altoids

UFO pot of coffee
at least 2L of water
2x 500ml peppermint tea (I'm a double bagger!)
Jasmine green tea
3x 500ml Camomile tea
flat diet gingerale

HAPPY 5 WEEK SMOKE-FREE ANNIVERSARY TO ME!
Note: Not smoking is making me really health nutty again. Also, makes me crave crunchy foods, like "salad." Actually,
as long as I use high SF toppers, I'm okay with it. JUST NO ICEBURG!!! I think the non-smoking is contributing to my stabilization (no, I KNOW it has) as well as ditching Nexium.

Took LOTS of pills and drank lots of water.

After lunch snack=10-15 saltines w/ ricotta (if I don't eat dairy I've not much left to eat!)

Brunch= about .5 oz. pasta with a bit of oil and a bit of butternut squash.

Evening meal= about 2 oz. freshly cooked white fish (no more canned anything anymore!)

dinner: about 5 bites pasta w/ a bit of the squash.

Try more tomorrow.

Can you do some form of liquid nutrition, Ruchie? Maybe Rice Protein shakes? Organic soups? It sounds like you need quality more than quantity. Green drinks? Smoothies? You need energy/strength to be ready for surgery & then recovery. You'll beat this. You're brave & you'll stumble across a way of managing.

I send lots of "Vanilla bean" hugs. Hmmm...perhaps organic yogurt might be more alkaline than ricotta cheese, in your situation if you are temporarily including dairy? Just a whacked out thought. Maybe Kefir might be more beneficial?

Kate.

Hi Katie,

The only veggies I can have that I KNOW are safe include: Carrots and potatoes.

No rice milk. No yogurt (it's not JUST about acidity...)

Kefir might be a good idea. I will find out if it is safe.

I cannot buy imagine soups. They have cellery and onion and things.

I can't really have salt either however sodium bicarbonate helps.

No oats...so no store bought green drinks.

I'm floundering.

I will keep you posted... here is a link explaining IC and acid and how it's not just about acid

http://www.ic-network.com/handbook/diet.html#why

Here is the IC diet handbook. I can't eatbut one or two things on the Might be ok or Usually not ok parts.

Scroll down a bit for the multi-colored chart:

http://www.ic-network.com/handbook/diet.html#topfive

I hope this helps a bit in the understanding of things. P.S. Rice seems to bother me even. I think I'm allergic to white rice and brown rice I'm not sure...but I cannot stand the taste/texture (I was fond of drowning it with soy sauce...something I can no longer have.)

Thank you Katie for your concern. I have to get through this. And you're right I MUST be strong for surgery *hugs*

Thanks for being here for me *hugs* I love you

Actually, I just "big gulped' the info. on this site in my quest to suggest with more info. under my hat.

THERE ARE TONS OF THINGS YOU CAN EAT, Ruchie. Focus on that.

Kefir is kind of like yogurt, so I'd skip it.

HOWEVER, what's stopping you from making your own Ruchie-friendly soups? Get thee to the store! You can make your own Butternut squash soup or Portabella mushroom soup or Broccoli soup--hey, it's as easy as using your own homemade boiled chicken water!

Quinoa is a power food. Rice might be easy on that tummy right now. Have you tried Jasmine rice? Basmati rice? Goodness, gracious--soy sauce adds pitiful flavour anyways. There are tons of things you can do with zucchini--it's fabululous as a side with fish. Pasta salads are so easy. You can prep. a few servings of any of the above so that you don't have to cook all the time! Maybe angelfood cake for treats/desserts? Pita pizzas? Portabella sandwiches? Mushrooms are wonderful in omelettes/frittas, they totally make a salad much safer if that's your speed. A wild mushroom risotto? With tilapia? An adapted version of a carrot soup? Potato soup? Latkes? Hey, I KNOW you can do this. I know you can energize yourself from IC-Acceptable foods! Carrot muffins? Zucchini loaf? Carrot juice is fabulous! Buy some pears and make your own babyfood pears or pear puree. Chicken noodle soup? Polenta?

Egg white protein powders are available. They would probably be better for you than whey based ones, considering the IBS-diet.

Keep on fighting. Truly, your recovery will be smoother if you are STRONG!

Kate.

Hi Katie...

You are too GOOD! *hugs*

Ok...yes on the oemelettes. Will try some in the a.m.

Squashes are a bit irritating atm. Whie rice is giving me hives. I'm not sure what to put in a soup when carrots, shrooms, and potatoes seem to be the only guaranteed safe foods atm? I THINK peas are ok...not sure about corn. Onions are a no...so what would I put in my soup? You have SUPER ideas...share them with me (PLEASE be as specific as possible, thanks!)

Egg white protein powders? Ok...will see what I can find. Any brands you suggest before my trip to the store tom. (you inspired me *hugs)

PITZ PIZZAS! Oh wow, what an idea! I can make them with shrooms and some cheese. I'm actually feeling hungry and liking it! Maybe it won't even hurt! That would be wonderful... *puts on pink glasses and begins to dream of eating something without it adding to the pain and making belly swell...no added pressure! mmmm....aahhhh....*

I know you make brown rice pudding. A recipe please?

What's tilapia?

Is polenta from corn? If it is...I'll skip it for now...

I have never made a soup work for me except for chicken! Feel free t- e-mail me specific portion sizes and I'll give it another try (made a recipe from the boards the other day...disaster!!) I can take a squash and bake it and puree it...that's as close as I get. I'm ALL EYES he he for any ideas/recipes/specifics. You're right...I gotta be strong for this gig I got going in a few weeks (ok...so surgery is NOT the kind of gig I was hoping for...but maybe it will inspire a creative essay afterwards...?)

*phew* Sorry so long-winded.

Thank you for lifting my spirits and giving me hope.

Love you...(can't wait to hear back!)

Ruch

Hey, Ruchie...one day at a time.

Brown rice pudding is as easy as substituting brown rice for the white. You can also use brown rice gf noodles in soups, pasta dishes, etc.

Tilapia is a mild white fish--it tastes rather like chicken!
Totally easy on the tummy! You might try Cod as well. Halibut rocks, too.

Do a search on EGG WHITE protein powders--I know several people with IBS use them successfully.

You could make some really funky frittatas & omelettes with anything on the list! Even a kind of potato omelette.

Pureed peas, by the way, is a great DIPPER! It kind of tastes similar to guacomole.

Why not a carrot soup? Sweet potato soup? Pea soup? Lentil soup? Brown rice/chicken & whatever else you want to put in the soup, soup? Chicken noodle soup. Mushroom soup?
Egg drop soup? A seafood chowder made thick & rich and creamy with potato? No-yolk noodle soup?

Grate zucchini & toss with pasta, chicken bits or tuna, or just enjoy plain. Perhaps mix with some of the pea sauce.

Stir fries?

Spaghetti squash is a favourite "fast food" of mine, lately.

Re: polenta
It is made with cornmeal. So, if that is a problem, skip it.

You could make a really nourishing quinoa dish...add some shiitakes, grated zucchini, matchstick carrots, peas...Substitute quinoa where you might eat rice.

Maybe an adapted chicken potpie? I think there's something on the recipe boards.

Create your own IC/Ruchie safe burritto.

Maybe a pumpkin date loaf or muffin kind of thing?

I'm sure you can imagine/figure out a kind of kugel. I know you'd love potato pancakes! French toast? Crepes?

Cream of wheat?

Would QUORN be okay for you to try/eat?

Snowpeas are really fun to add to things! They're great just quickly steamed/stir-fried.

You'll figure it out. JUST DON'T GIVE UP. Get some ingredients you can play with. Honestly...that's what I do...I play with what works. Yes, more or less an impromptu chef & I cross my fingers.

Oh, how could I forget! One of my favourite salads at the moment is LOADED with MUSHROOMS! (Always makes me feel really 'smurfy'...mushrooms on whatever kind of lettuce/greens. And, yes, spashing on carrot juice is a delicious dressing/sauce! Hey, you could really infuse some flavour into something with some of that stuff! Lol, orange mashed potatoes with chopped fresh basil leaves...Fresh basil on a pita pizza ...A basil & mushroom & potato frittata with some steamed snopeas on the side?)

How about a lean chicken or turkey meatloaf? Turkey burgers? Meatballs?

Kate.

Bread and cereals instead of real meals because I didn't feel like packing a lunch for work.

Too much popcorn. When will I learn?

Not much there that was good for my IBS or my weight-gain goals. Blah!
