ugh. attack in the morning, went into work a few hours late. so a recovery day.

2 pieces white spelt bread

1/2 kaiser roll

1/2 kaiser roll
banana

quaker take heart oatmeal

squash w/ maple syrup & cinnamon

2 hardboiled egg whites
applesauce

3 light waffles w/ jam

ended up around 1400 calories.

i wish i had good sf stuff around - i'd love a sweet potato - but no buying more food for a while! sigh.

right after the squash, after a couple of bites, i got this weird sort of burning across my chest. it wasn't too bad, but it eventually settled into that burning gassy feeling - i think it's 'trapped gas.' i ought to do some looking into that. i'll sleep curled around a heating pad, so that should, i hope, help this 'pass.'

I'm getting to the grieving stage for my lost smoking habit. I guess, I'll just "grieve" and let it be gone/past, a ghost.

Calorically, definitely not enough, but I didn't do much. Less than 750 according to my calculations.

Crispix

Steamed green beans/lots of mushrooms

Vegetable soup (pureed fennel, celery, zucchini in Imagine Asian Style Chicken broth) (Kind of one of those clean the fridge things that you hope doesn't kill you! I think, though, next time, I'll skip it and let the stuff rot & trash it. Actually, I'm just erasing those things from the list. It's a waste of Beano, lol!) I'm trying to break this "it is only proper" way of thinking re: veggies. It's really hard.

Spinach/lots of cremini mushrooms

Crispix

So, in review, food-wise, stuff like celery, fennel, zucchini is really a waste of Beano. I'll stick to mostly spinach & mushrooms as they are tried, tested and true with me.

Holy fussy!
Kate.

My tummy has been feeling pretty well today, despite a very stressful move from my home in Santa Cruz to my parents new house for Winter break. I feel like I did a lot of running around, and not a lot of sitting down and taking time to eat, which usually makes my symptoms flare up. We'll see how I feel tomorrow...

*cereal, banana, soymilk

*a few bites of mock chicken salad, baked corn chips

*luna bar

*fake chicken sandwich on sourdough with mustard, and a small baby greens side salad with lowfat dressing.

*a few almonds

I have been craving salt like crazy lately, so those chips really hit the spot, although they were the only thing that gave me a little bit of a reaction...

Hope you all had a wonderful day!

Jaime,
I had an attack last time I ate squash last week, too. I had reflux AND an attack!!!

So, maybe it's the squash that made you feel like that.

I had an attack at 2:30 this morning myself, so I feel your pain!! It literally ripped me out of my sleep!!! UGHHHHH!!!!!!!

yeah, it's weird - i've had squash before with no trouble. this was the frozen pureed stuff - pure squash, usually fine with me. i had the trapped gas pains (and burping) the rest of the night (nothing crippling, but no fun), but woke up okay. i think, when i'm not so po', i'm gonna buy some of heather's fennel tea. i've loved the kind i've bought at whole foods, but i've never noticed it actually doing anything for gas.

thanks, michelle.

I go through the "trapped gas", "burpy" stuff just about every single night. Is that part of the whole stabilization process??? I feel worse at night than I do all day. And I can't take my sleepy meds because it gives me horrible reflux during the night and I wake up even sicker!!

Hope you stay stable, today! I am gonna bet on the squash....I used to be able to eat it just fine, too, but not anymore! Not after last week. I don't think I will do squash again for a LOOOOONG time!!!! LOL!!!

Anise Tea works better for me than Fennel. I keep trying the fennel but I don't feel relief like I do with Anise. Have you ever tried it??? It took me forever to find it and when I did, I bought a ton of it so I don't run out. I love anise tea.

It tastes like licorice. Kinda the same as fennel but stronger licorice taste. Most candy black licorice is flavored with anise.
I use Alvita (a Twinlab division). And I found it on Ebay, believe it or not. I looked for it on the web and all over Atlanta and couldn't find it. You can find ANYTHING on ebay.

Hope this helps!

1. Squash always gives me gas/reflux, so it's on my banned list. Most orange foods, do. Could it be because of the galactose content? I don't know. It just makes me, personally, vomit, so I no longer even entertain the thought of eating it. I really miss carrots, but holy kick-back.

2. I take my anti-anxiety pills and sleeping pills, if desired, but with a small high SF snack. I crush the pills, too. If I keep Pepto. by my designated sleeping area and Tums, I don't have a problem.

3. Michelle, I totally agree with you re: the Gas pills before bed. It really helps with anything coming back up my throat!

4. Food temperature, REALLY impacts me, I'm learning. It must be room temp. or COLDER.

Kate, IBS-D.

What meds are you on for anti-anxiety and sleep? Do they bother your reflux??

I go back to the doctor on Tuesday and I want to try and get an idea of something that I think would help with my anxiety and sleep but not irritate my reflux like the Remeron and Elavil did. I slept like a baby on Remeron. I slept 12 hours at the least!! I never woke up in the middle of the night with stomach problems when I was on this stuff. Problem is is made me severely C and nauseated!! As soon as I woke up in the morning I was a walking panic attack. It made my anxiety and my reflux sooo much worse!!! But, while I was asleep, I was fine. Does not make sense to me at all.

The Elavil would wake me up in the middle of the night with bad reflux and stomach upset!!!! Cannot do that one at all!!!

I have a question about your spelt bread. All I can find is the dark spelt, not the white. Have you ever tried the dark? Is only the white type safe?

What brand do you buy and where do you find it? Not that I'll be able to find it...but if I had a name I could call around.

thanks for your help

So squash gives y'all trapped gas as well?

*sigh*

I'm finding more and more that ALL foods do something negative to my poor bod

For trapped gas...yoga and pilates do more than fennel tea or even the heating pad...just a thought for my po' friend jamie *hugs*

Hope you don't mind me barging in (sheesh I don't even post here regularly) but I peeked in and thought I'd share...

This a.m. the gas was soooo bad but the pilates took it away and even landed me an almost normal BM!!!

Score!

*hugs* Ruch

hey cyndy. i actually just finished my bread, so the label's gone with the trash. it is, in fact, white spelt - the dark stuff is most likely whole grain which is, of course, not safe. but edible, if eaten safely. i got mine in the frozen section of a small health food store... it's a place by my mom's house, so, unfortunately, i can't even swing by to check. sorry. good luck.

no worries about butting in at all!

what yoga poses are especially helpful for trapped gas? (just asking about yoga rather than pilates, too, because i have a background in yoga but not the other.)

For GAD, I take Buspar. Splitting the pills/crushing them helps tons. Heck, I'll even mix it in some food.

For sleep, I'm taking Temazepam. These will really knock me out for a few hours, but I wake up with that hang-over, fuzzy head feeling.

Hey Kate!
I have 2 bottles of Buspar, but I only took it for a couple of days. My doctor thinks that it might have irritated my IBS. He told me to go off of it. Maybe he might put me back on it, again. Did you have any side effects from it?? Does it help you??

I haven't heard of the other one....I need a good sleep med. I need sleep!!!

I bet you're grumpy, today, huh??? I bet. You quit right around christmas, too! How did you do that??? I always started back up at christmas and would quit again on New Year's Day!! LOL!!!

You Go girl!

Squash not good for you, either??? What's up with squash!?!? LOL!!

I know how you feel, girl. It seems like sooo many foods affect my body, too. Reflux City! IBS-D attack city!!!

What are we gonna do???

Hey, HAPPY DANCE, HAPPY DANCE!!! (ALMOST NORMAL BM!!) GOOD FOR YOU!! AND KATE, TOO. I saw that she posted somewhere that she's almost normal, too!! WHOOOO HOOOO!!!

I used to do pilates! Maybe I should drag out the DVD's again. I haven't done pilates in like a year!!! It really helps that much??? I never noticed. But, I was stable when I was doing it last year, I think. Thanks for the info. Maybe I will try it out, again......

((((Hugs))))

Honestly, I feel like I'm a character in "Snow White & the Seven Dwarves," except a post-modern version.

I'm definitely Grumpy and going through a lot of Sleepy & Sneezy moments. However, I am Happy, too. It's so weird. Mornings are the worst, no, pardon me--the most challenging.

Re: Buspar
Crushing/breaking the pills and mixing it with food (hiding it in the food) really makes taking it a breeze. If I don't take it with SF food, I will have one of those nauseated reactions. Strangely, I think that Buspar & the Nicoderm Patch are contributing the success of my lifestyle change. BREATHING/yoga exercises and meditation help tons, too.

Kate.

I don't know how you do it, but keep doing it!! I was so overly anxious when I quit, I could never sleep...not even at night when I was supposed to!! It was very hard for me. I was taking Tylenol PM all the time. Well, until I quit most recently in September. I was on the Remeron then and slept just fine. Da!n, I miss that med!! I slept forever!!! But, I just cannot handle waking up the next day and being so C, overly anxious and nauseated. I wish the doc could find another med that made me sleep just as well without all the side effects. Until then, I just rely on my Unisom. It doesn't put me to sleep until like 6:00am!! Then when I get up at 9:00, I'm groggy and ready to sleep till 12:00 but I can't. Have a starving hubby to fix breakfast for!! LOL!!!

Thanks anyways Jaime.

Oh, do you remember if it was a yeast free bread? Sorry to keep bothering you.

it may have had yeast. it was a very simple ingredients list, though. flour, water, honey or cane juice, salt, and maybe yeast.
